DARKWING

REAL NAME: Drake Mallard
OCCUPATION: Non-super-powered hero, single dad
ANALYSIS: Being the show's title character also made Darkwing Duck the most well-developed. He's sort of a combination of James Bond and Batman, a full-time super hero, part-time secret agent, double-time egomaniac. Every super-hero has their weakness, and Darkwing's achilles heel is his gargantuan yet increadibly fragile ego. Often, DW ends up making things even worse before he ultimately solves anything. Still he is quite intelligent with brilliant analytical abilities. In addition to this, he is also a kung-fu master, which comes in handy against larger foes.

Despite his many flaws, DW is a loving caregiver to his daughter, Gosalyn, and is even a bit of a pushover. He consistenly orders her not to tag along on his adventures. She then invariably comes along anyway in nearly every episode, and is often placed in danger because of it. Darkwing and Gosalyn actually function something like a super-hero training situation. Often, Darkwing can't solve the crime without her. Darkwing's ego problems seem to stem from a strong desire to be recognized and accepted, and also possibly worshipped by fans. Along the way, the series gave clues to the fact that Drake was not the most popular kid growing up, so he has quite a bit to prove. In the Fried version, Dark functions as something of a psychotherepist to some of the less stable villains. In addition to physical combat, he also hits them with a barrage of analyctical questions, trying to root out the cause of their behavior and disassemble it. Good luck, Darkwing.
