The 2000 Keckler Family Reunion is nearly upon us and what better way to celebrate the family's first year of the new millenium than with its own website. Okay, it's just a page on a website, but it's progress. Thanks for reading. Here is a letter from our esteemed chairman:
July 14, 2000 Keckler Family Reunion Reminder Dear Keckler Family Member, The Y2K Reunion is just around the corner, and I'm not talking decades here. The first Keckler Reunion of the new millennium will be the second Sunday in August. You know how you hate to start off a new millennium on the wrong foot, so be there!
I'm sure we can all appreciate how much better off we are now than what our ancestors were a millennium ago. Back then, radiant heat meant that you were warmer by the fire. Baseboard heat was what you got when you burned a piece of baseboard. Forget air conditioning - that was a sachet of flower petals carried to mask the body odor achieved from infrequent bathing. Should I go on? A computer was a person who knew the difference between four hens and eight hens. 90% of the population were peasants. The Nobility thought they knew best how to help the peasants: provide them with jobs, working for the Nobility! That was a great system, if you were born right. Then, with a lot of bloodshed, Democracy happened. Let's do our part this year to elect politicians who will help to ensure that democratic principles will be guiding us still in the next millennium. I suggested last year that members bring cards, games or athletic equipment to have more opportunities to interact. Let's just say that effort was less than successful. So, after consulting a psychology primer, let's try something different. This year, there is a prohibition against any entertainment devices, social games and athletic endeavors whatsoever. A couple reminders...It was agreed last year that members who want a reminder letter in 2001, should bring a self-addressed, stamped, business size envelope to the 2000 reunion. And, we are saving money and time in not including a map this year. East Side Park is, dah, on the east side of Galion. For directionally challenged members, that is on the side toward Mansfield. If you turn south off Harding Way East onto Third Avenue, you can't miss. Vince Resor set up a Keckler Reunion home page on the net, so those of us with access to a computer and the net can click on and see his photo of last year's attendees, as well as other tidbits. The address is: http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Outback/6767/keckler.html. Sincerely, Fred Smella |
Fred will be sporting a print of this 1999 reunion photo at this year's reunion. You can download your own copy of this picture by simply right clicking anywhere on the photo and choosing the "Save picture as..." option. Given sufficient interest, we may be able to provide copies to interested non-web enabled reuinion goers. Good luck.
