Along with my American
friends, Kristi and Scott, I went to Versailles. The 45-min train ride in
the mild sunny morning was enjoyable. It was a coincidence we visited on September 1. Find out what is so special soon ~ |

The Palace of Versailles holds many important moments
of French history. Certainly Kings Louis XIV, Louis XV, Marie Antoinette are
well-known occupants. Napolean was very fond of the Palace, particularly the
Opera House where he held a reception for European royals.
Despite King Louis XV melted some of the silver and gold to pay debt, the palace is still grandious. |

Surely we all would've loved to spend the rest of the day in Versailles, but we had a bigger plan. Given the good weather, we had to climb up L'Arc de Triomphe to get a 360-degree view of Paris, both day time and night time. We had no idea what awaited us ..... the sore feet... |

Early
evening, we went to one of the largest science and engineering universities
in Europe, PMCU (No, not my company),
Pierre and Marie Curie
University. The university is not gated and buildings are scattered. We walked into the gated area but couldn't locate the Cuvier building. We approached a group of students to ask for directions. The students saw us and pushed a guy who seemed to be more fluent in English to talk to us. Heehee, my French is definitely good enough to ask for directions. So there would be no misunderstanding, we got to our destination pretty quickly. We were to attend a reception and to listen to speeches with university students from all over Europe, Africa, Middle East. The multicultural feeling was overwhelming. |

The meetings took long. We skipped dinner to climb up
the L'Arc de Triomphe again at night before it closes. We wanted to catch
the light show of the Eiffel Tower at 10 pm. Dazzling!
See La Tour Eiffel?! The white spot to the right is the moon. Now you know what kind of wonderful view I enjoyed! So having super late dinner was alright. Actually, I didn't have dinner, I only had desserts afterwards. We went to a pastry place on Champs-Elysées and then sat on the patio, enjoyed a yummy chocolate mousse and a cocktail drink, plus the marvelous view of L'Arc de Triomphe at night. Overall, that day, we climbed over 2000 steps (300 steps up & down at L'Arc de Triomphe, at the métro stations, at Versailles) I had to give my feet a warm bath and massage my feet to prepare for more walking the next day. |
