New York

Date : April 5 - 9, 2002

it was Connie's Wedding that gave me an excuse to visit NY. although Pri has been living there for years, it's actually my 1st time visiting her, and seeing her ever since she moved to America. And definitely delighted to find her looking much the same (and me looking much the same too!) after all these years.
Indeed, Subway in NY is a very convenient transportation, yet at times confusing when it comes to transfer trains. Luckily, with Pri's detailed instructions, I only got lost in the Subway once on my way to the Empire State Building as it was rush hour and express trains skipped certain stations.

NASDAQ!
- doth i say more?!
On my way to pick up some yummy Lindt choco, I found that on 5th Ave... Not only there are mounted police in Canada, they're in US too!
The most important stop of my tourist adventure is of course the Statue of Liberty. It was a cloudy morning and surely it was windy and cold on the ferry (Felt so glad that I brought along my scarf with me!). Fortunately, the sun came out and even lited up the torch on the staute with brilliance.
Ellis Island - an isolated island near Liberty Island. Can hardly imagine that this little museum used to be the customs and immigration check point for all immigrants into America, and thousands of people were assessed everyday for years. It's a good history lesson indeed, to know that Italy used to have companies to emmigrate workers to USA, and the medical tests that used to be performed on site, the literary tests, and even asking people how much money they're bringing to the country.
Some called this ..
the 8th Wonder of the World.

Going through metal detector before entering the building was a little overwhelming, but the view from the Observatory was amazing, overlooking the entire NYC in all directions.

Hehe, it was also very windy up the Empire State Building, can't imagine if I might become a frozen stone if I did go up on Sat night after waiting in the street for 30 min - 1 hr before dinner (*o*)
After a whole day of walking, met up with Pri at Time Square and enjoyed a delicious dinner Italiano in a restaurant nearby. Oops, forgot to go back and take pic of the steamy cup noodles at night, oh..

God Bless America over Cup Noodles
Seeing the God Bless America theme ad in Time Square, I cannot help not only to be reminded of the tragic 911 incident (and the impacts of it over the entire N.America), but also that war is still going on in Afghanistan. Ground Zero is still being fenced up. It's just flat - how can 7 buildings just left nothing on the ground... And the nearby buildings are all damaged too, how dreadful after...

One can only hope for such terror will never be faced by anyone.

~.~ More NYC Pics ~.~
Can't thank Pri enough for being my tour guide, showing me around town, spending time with me; i'd have been happy enough just to catch up with her! Not to mention making my NY trip so enjoyable \(^o^)/
