When I said "Rainy
Toronto", you probably wonder how could a Vancouverite say such thing.
But, surprise!, I'm not comparing between Vancouver and Toronto at all.
Or I should say, it's unusual for Ontario to not have a sunny weekend in
May! Less than 2 months since my last stop at the Pearson
Airport, I got to experience the multimillion dollar brand-new Terminal 1. The
high ceiling was the first thing I noticed as I stepped out of the gate. What I
didn't know was the multi-storey parking building across is still under
construction as you can see here. But I can't deny, the new Terminal is very
nice and comfortable. |

I must be gratified that Sylvia travelled with me and
saved me from taking the shuttle to Niagara. I've been told by someone from
Ottawa who took the shuttle at the Toronto airport that it was not a ride she
would prefer. Okay, Calvin did offer to pick me from Niagara on Sunday. So even
if Sylvia couldn't make it, I would only need to take the shuttle one-way.
Anyway, fearing we would get lost, especially after dark, we decided to have
dinner after we get to Niagara Falls... Even the hotel provides a view of the
Falls, fog fog fog ..... There was so much fog that the only reason you would know
you're looking at the wonderful Niagara Falls is that there is no building in front.

Saturday weather was
indeed much more favourable although still not desirable. The view from
the hotel was beautiful however.
I couldn't help but to walk out to the viewpoint on Fallsview Boulevard across the street from the hotel. As I was crossing the
street, I was asking myself, "Am I in a hurricane, or what?" As I stood to take
pictures, it felt like I was in Salisbury Plains in UK during December, just
warmer in temperature. At least it wasn't raining thus I was able to take some
good pictures heehee.

Probably all that Friday rain helped produce a
stronger flow of water from the rivers, both the American Falls and the
Niagara Falls were running at speed. |
Wind has lessened much but temperature was still chilly
due to the overcast. The strong water flow at the horseshoe created lots of
mist, as if it was raining. The mist made it impossible to view the entire
horseshoe and more disturbingly made me felt like walking in a light shower... |

At night, the scene changed dramatically with colourful
lights shined onto the Falls. Wind gust liked to join us for the evening and it
was cold. I wished I brought along my scarf that I left in the hotel room. But
our excitement stood high because the Falls at night is no worse than during the
day if not better! |

Sunday's weather was even worse than Friday. Because It
was pouring in Niagara, I thought it makes no sense for Calvin and Jenny to come
from Toronto to meet me in Niagara. Sylvia and I therefore took no time to
decide to drive back to Toronto as soon as we could leave shortly after noon. On
our way, we didn't really hit too much backed-up traffic. We were supposed to
meet Calvin outside a cinema. Sylvia was concerned that how me and Calvin would
recognize one another. Hmm.. I never quite doubted if I would have trouble
recognizing Calvin despite I haven't seen him or his picture for 15 years haha.
Plus I don't think he should have problems recognizing me given I post my
pictures online often enough. We got there a bit early so by the time Calvin
came, he rang me and there left no puzzle for the 2 of us to solve.
Since we couldn't get hold of Jenny, the 3 of us
took a lot of hungry times (Fine, I was the only one who was vocal
enough about my hunger, just because I had my breakfast at 7:30 am!) and
agreed to go to a Chinese restaurant for dim sum at about 2:30 pm. As
soon as we sat down, we got Jenny's call. With Jenny++ joining us, we
talked and ate until 4:30 pm when the restaurant staff was to have their
meal (^o^).

If you wonder how we ended up chatting
for another hour or so in a dessert house, it's because our nutritionist-on-site
told us that bubble tea offers no calories less than any dessert. I guess I did
feel bad that at times Sylvia would be a bit left out during our conversations, for
I haven't seen Calvin and Jenny for so long and naturally focussed more on them.

At the end of the day, I could only say this trip was
awesome. What else could I ask for, be in the company of a nice friend like
Sylvia, and caught up with 2 old buddies whom I've known for almost 20 years.
The gray weather couldn't possibly interfere with the shine in my heart at
all~ |
