DODGERS 11 LAS VEGAS TEAM TWO 4
The
30A championship game was close until the seventh inning when the
Dodgers came from behind with seven runs to break it open. The
uprising featured hits by Sal Sanchez, Larry Ramirez, Jerry Durham
and Eric Swanson. The Las Vegas also contributed, committing four
errors in the fateful frame. Durham's single, steal and a sacrifice
fly by Brad Milner, plated the last run in the 8th.
The
two teams battled on even terms through the first six. Greg Shepard
singled in a run in the first inning for Las Vegas, which the Dodgers
matched with an unearned run in the bottom of the second on four
walks. Vegas took a 4-1 lead, scoring three times in the third.
Singles by Dan Doby and Ernest Baulela, a double by Shepard, two
walks and Andy Owen's sacrifice fly accounted for the three runs. The
Dodgers battled back to make it 4-3 in the third inning. Ramirez'
single started the action. Durham forced him at second, then stole
second base and scored on Milner's RBI single. Milner later scored on
Pat Bair's base hit. It stood that way until the Dodgers exploded in
the seventh. Winning pitcher Larry Sanchez was chosen as the Game's
Most Valuable Player.
