"Under President Bush, the executive branch...understands that the Second Amendment affirms more than a symbolic principle. It states, after all, that 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.'"
---Vice President Cheney to NRA Annual Meeting, April 17, 2004

"We stand for the 2nd Amendment, which gives every American the individual right to bear arms. I've got a record on that issue. It stands in stark contrast to my opponent."-- President George W. Bush to rally in Ohio, July 31, 2004
Welcome to the home page of Sportsmen for Bush. Here you will find information about the President's record on issues important to gun owners and sportsmen, as well as information about the anti-gun and anti-hunting record of John Kerry.
Gun Owners and Sportsmen Win Great Victory!!! - Thanks in part to the nation's gun owners and sportsmen, John Kerry failed in his bid to unseat President Bush. We also expanded our pro-gun majorities in the House and added four pro-gun senators to the US Senate.
IMPORTANT NEWS - The NRA-PVF endorsed President Bush on Wednesday (October 13) in a series of press conferences in battleground states.

While the NRA was endorsing President Bush for re-election, another gun-control group, The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence was endorsing John Kerry. Add this to the Brady Campaign (formerly known as Handgun Control Inc.), the Million Mom March, (click here and read the Brady Bunch/MMM press release) and the Humane Society of the United States, and sportsmen have a clear picture of who John Kerry really is and what he would do to our gun rights and hunting heritage if he is elected.
To counter the NRA's efforts to inform gun owners about his real anti-gun record, Kerry scheduled a goose hunting trip in Ohio for October 21st. But get this, Kerry's own campaign staff referred to the hunting trip as going to "kill another defenseless animal." Read about it here. Then click here to see what the National Shooting Sports Foundation has to say about the gun banners supporting Kerry. Even Katie Couric could see through his shallow photo-op. Listen here.
After Kerry's October 21, photo-op goose hunting trip, Vice President Cheney pegged Kerry's real motive perfectly when he said, "His new camouflage jacket is an October disguise, an effort he's making to hide the fact that he votes against gun owner rights at every turn." He continued, "My fellow sportsmen, this cover-up isn't going to work," Cheney said, speaking to supporters in an upscale Toledo suburb that borders the Ohio-Michigan state line. "The Second Amendment is more than just a photo opportunity."(Oregon Live/AP, October 21, 2004) President Bush, campaigning in Hershey, Pa., said this about Kerry's photo-op and his anti-gun record, "He can run - he can even run in camo - but he cannot hide."(The New York Times, October 22, 2004)
And how about this from the Washington Times, describing how Kerry was really hunting for votes but also careful not to "scare off" his base of gun-grabbers and anti-hunters:
"But as Mr. Kerry removes questions among gun-toting voters, he also is careful not to scare off supporters who might be a little squeamish about seeing their candidate smeared with the fresh blood of a fowl whose only crime was to try landing in the wrong cornfield. So the event yesterday was tightly choreographed.
"'He's going to walk down that line of corn,' explained one staffer, describing the candidate's precise movements out of the field. 'He'll turn down there and walk up this way.'
"Campaign officials wanted to convey the image of a hunter without permitting any of the gory details. They refused, for instance, to allow a reporter to join the hunting party in the blind."(Kerry Bags Geese but Plays Down Gory Details, Washington Times, October 22, 2004)
This is all part of Kerry's attempt to undergo an extreme makeover regarding his support for gun control and his support for radical anti-hunting animal rights groups.
For instance, "Mr. Kerry has been busy posing for the media shooting guns... It is an insult to our intelligence to act as if posing with guns is as significant as how the senator voted on gun control laws during his 16 years in Congress."(3/2/04, Thomas Sowell, Political Malpractice, Washington Times, 7/13/04)
I am particularly amused when I listen to Kerry talk about how he deer hunts. They must hunt differently up north than they do in Virginia. I like this little tidbit written by Mark Steyn in the Daily Telegraph on July 27:
"I find it hard to believe that getting to know John F Kerry can possibly work to his advantage.
"He was in Wisconsin the other day, pretending to be a regular guy, and was asked what kind of hunting he preferred. 'I'd have to say deer,' said the senator. 'I go out with my trusty 12-gauge double-barrel, crawl around on my stomach... That's hunting.'
"This caused huge hilarity among my New Hampshire neighbours. None of us has ever heard of anybody deer hunting by crawling around on his stomach, even in Massachusetts. The trick is to blend in with the woods and, given that John Kerry already looks like a forlorn tree in late fall, it's hard to see why he'd give up his natural advantage in order to hunt horizontally.
"Possibly his weird Vietnam nostalgia is getting out of control. Still, if I come across a guy in the woods in deer season inching through the undergrowth with a mouthful of bear scat, at least I'll know who it is.
"Conversely, if you're a 14-point buck and get shot in the toe this autumn, you'll know who to sue." ( John Kerry Can't Shoot Deer or Stop Terror, Daily Telegraph, 7/27/04)
Kerry has a 100%+ rating from the Humane Society of the United States - one of the most anti-hunting organizations in the nation (the organization’s website reads, “The HSUS strongly opposes the recreational hunting and killing of wild animals, as the sport is fundamentally at odds with the values of a humane, just, and caring society” - Humane Society of the United States Web Site).
The Humane Society of the United States and Fund for Animals cited John Kerry as among Senators who have "compiled consistently excellent voting records on animal issues . . ." and who "have emerged as animal protection leaders . . . Kerry has cosponsored almost every piece of animal protection legislation . . . introduced on behalf of animals."( Hidden Agenda - The truth behind John Kerry`s record on your firearms rights, 6/1/04, NRA-ILA.org )
The response to Kerry's "I`m a Hunter" ploy in some quarters shows just how much work sportsmen and gun owners have to do in the coming months. Kerry`s Iowa pheasant hunt, staged as a photo-op for willing media, brought accolades from some outdoor writers and sportsmen, despite Kerry`s longstanding gun-ban tendencies.
"Some hunters also felt an instant kinship with Kerry," wrote James A. Swan on National Review Online. "As Ryan McKinney, the Iowa farmer on whose property Kerry hunted, said, `It feels a little safer if your presidential hopeful isn`t going to go after your typical normal shotgun.`" (Emphasis added.)
But in reality, "your typical normal shotgun" is exactly what Kerry is going after. It is exactly what he is on record as wanting to ban.
John Kerry co-sponsors-along with fellow gun grabbers Ted Kennedy, Diane Feinstein and Charles "Chucky" Schemur-S.1431, a bill that would: 1) ban all semi-automatic shotguns (like your Remington 1100); 2) ban all centerfire and rimfire semi-automatic rifles that use detachable magazines; and 3) ban a lot of other firearms newly determined to be "assault weapons."
So truth is, Kerry would ban "your typical normal shotgun." But there is even more to it than that.
Hunters considering voting for Kerry simply because he says he supports hunters rights also need to know that Kerry recently left the campaign trail to cast a vote to ban ammunition rounds that are popular with many hunters (the proposal came from Kerry’s more-conservative mentor and senior senator, Ted Kennedy, who specifically mentioned the .30-30 Winchester among others).
