Minutes from meeting of September 16th, 2002

 

 

Attendance:  Michelle, Kegan, Andrea, Dave, Jón, Chantelle, Angie, Laurel, Jeff, Collin, Kate, Lindsay, Brent, Michael, Kendra, and Nina

 

1.  RRC Anti-Homophobia Campaign

qThe Rainbow Resource Center (RRC) holds regular meeting regarding anti-homophobia tactics.  The results of these meetings are taken to schools through the Breaking Barriers project, which aims to eliminate homophobia within schools.

qThe next meeting will be held September 25th at 7:00pm at 222 Furby street, anyone is welcome to attend.

 

2.  Reel Pride Film Festival

          qThe Reel Pride Film Festival will be held September 27th through October 4th

qWe will be sponsoring a screening for the Bulman student center to raise awareness of this great event, as well as provide some publicity. 

qThe date for the screening will be announced shortly, you can check the website for more information.

 

3.  Books/Movies to Order

qWe currently have a nice library full of books, which any student may borrow for 2 weeks at a time.

qa list will be posted by the white board to which we can add new books and/or movies to add to our impressive library.

 

4.  What’s Here For You Day

          qSept. 19, 11am-2pm
         
qWe will staff a table in the Riddell Atrium providing information about our center.
         
qKendra will set up a schedule

 

5.  Sheer Glyde Dams

          qSent us a sample in the summer
         
qA collective consensus was that these dams were too expensive

qLaurel will see into getting us information about how to properly use a condom as a dental dam.

 

6.  Webpage
          qNina will be the website person and technologies gal for the rest of the year
          qAny submissions at all can be given to her in any shape or form

 

7.     Queer In Your Ear

qAs of today, Queer In Your Ear is back from vacation, With Kendra and Collin hosting today’s show.  In the future, we would like 5-6 collective members as rotational hosts to lighten the workload and provide variety within each show.
qShould this plan go well, we will lobby for a second time slot of QIYE with a focus more on talk
radio, where as Monday’s show will be more on music.  This will be evaluated in about 3 months, depending on how the first part of the year goes.

 

8.      CFS Campaign to Brandon
    qBrandon University is thinking of pulling out their membership with the CFS (Canadian Federation
     of Students), and the U of W is sending a few people out on a campaign to lobby them to keep their 
    membership.
     qIf people are interested in going to Brandon to participate in this massive influence, they should
    talk to Nina or Brent in the LGBT or Margaret in the main UWSA office.

 

9.  Computer

qWe will be getting a new computer, no objections from the group, however, someone should look into the files to see if the professor who donated us her old computer donated it to us directly, or through the university.

qWe are also looking at donating the old computer to another Winnipeg organization.

 

10.  AIDS Walk

qThis Sunday, September 22nd, 2002.  Registration at 12:00noon, walk begins at 2:00pm.

qThere is a spool of red ribbon, so if you have time, cut some out.
qWe will walk as a collective, carrying the banner.  Meet at the registration place at 12:00noon

 

11. Coming Out Day

qOctober 11th, 2002
qNext meeting, we will discuss more on what we will do for coming out day.

 

12. Homohop 9

Theme:

qTheme ideas for vote were Love Potion Number 9 or Homocoming (a take on Homecoming).  Common consensus was that Homocoming would be great for other years, but Love Potion Number 9 is year specific, and it was a unanimous decision with no dissent.

 

Tickets:

qTickets will be available at the info booth, and the LGBT* Collective

q$6 for students and under-employed, $8 otherwise.

 

Sound and Music

qCollin will see to sound system and DJ booking
qJón will take care of the music.

 

Alcohol

qWe should be dealing with Maggie Ross from the UWSA regarding booze
qThe LC on Ellice delivers, it’s really important to order from an LC that delivers.
qKendra will be in charge of Liquor
qWe will have our bartenders hired through the UWSA

qConsensus is $2.75/drink

 

Silent Auction/Drag Show

qMichelle and Brent will see to the Silent Auction
qJón and Kegan will see to the Drag Show

 

Posters

qThe Poster needs to be done ASAP cuz we need to apply for the liquor license (and we need the poster to do that).

qNina’s boyfriend Alex is designing a few designs for us to use.  Should his design be a favorite among the collective, we get our graphic design for free, and he gets to say he’s the designer (a double positive).  He’ll have the design to us by Tuesday afternoon, and the decision will be made by votes on Wednesday.
qWe will have one large poster featuring the favorite design, and 3 or 4 other small posters with other designs
