UWLGBT* Collective

Minutes from October 7^th, 2002

1. Attendance.

Michelle, Sean, Judith, Chantelle, Kendra, Daniel, Angie, Halley, Raphael, Jen, Amanda, Lana, Sarah, Suzy, Andrea, Dave, Nina, Collin, Laurel.

2. Lube.

$7.50/gross (that’s 144 3 gram packages)
We will have the Womyn’s center and Peer Support order with us to cut down on shipping charges and to aid in convenience.

3. Bent On Change Conference

A conference will be held in Toronto dealing with Queer issues in Post secondary education
Brent has registered and would like the Collective to help fund his expenses, he is asking for $250.
Upon much disagreement on both sides, a copy of the UWLGBT*C budget is posted on the bulletin board, please feel free (and we encourage you) to check it out, and voice yes or no, or to what extent Brent should receive funding.
There is also more info about the conference on the bulletin board, we must remember that Brent is representing us not only as a member of the collective, but also as the Canadian Federation of Student’s Manitoba Liaison for Queer Representation.

Tickets: They are almost ready, and will be done by Friday
Entertainment: All is booked, all is good
Food: In the works
Silent Auction: Will be underway this week
Poster: It’s done and awesome
Banner: Paint Party 2 on Wednesday
Decorations: Because Collin can’t be there to help out, he’s going to buy us Pizza, aww, how sweet! Collin rocks!
9 AM Decorations and Prep start, the earlier we finish, the more time we have to get home, get rested, and look fabulisssss for the big event!

6. Orientation Drag Show

By popular demand! The Drag Show will happen after all!
Kendra will book the space, and Kegan and Collin will work together to organize it
October 18^th (that’s a week from Friday!) during the free period, Bulman MPR

7. National Coming Out Day

Nina will bring in her canvas flag to hang outside the center for National Coming Out Day, Friday October 11^th
Movies at 12:30 (Common Ground) and 2:30 (Kissing Jessica Stein) in the MPR.

8. Chatelaine Contest

Chatelaine will be holding a contest looking for an amazing “woman whose myth-shattering achievements help define who we are and where we’re going.”
It would be great to nominate someone as a collective, Kendra will put up a list that people can add names to.
Part of the nomination is a 500-word essay, which Amanda has volunteered to write.

9. Reel Pride

The screening was a flop, only Elisheva and Nina actually showed up, but they’d like to thank the collective for the pizza, that was great
The movies were really enlightening, and we’d like to keep them in mind for Gender week (CJ has agreed to lend them to the collective for Gender week already, so we’ll bring it up at a future meeting)

10. Petition

There is a petition circulating for International students to be able to work off campus, we encourage you to look at the petition sheet (there’s tons of good info on it), and decide if it’s a cause you want to support

11. NDP Candidate

A candidate running for the NDP leadership will be in the Bulman student center today at about 3:00, if you have any issues you’d like to ask him, feel free to show up.

12. Potluck

We usually do a potluck with RPM (Rainbow Pride Mosaic: U of M’s Queer Group) in the fall, and what better day to do it than October 18^th!!!
Yes, we realize it’s the day of the Drag Show, but we’re gonna have the potluck at 7:00pm, so it’ll serve as super-fun drag-show after party
Collin’s going to check into getting us passes so if we go to Gio’s after, we won’t have to pay cover! Woohoo Collin!
