U of W LGBT* Collective
Minutes for meeting January 13th, 2002
1. Gender Week
·
We NEED help to paint the banner, photocopy, and put up posters. Dave will photocopy, a few people will paint
the banner this afternoon.
·
The Duckworth has been booked for the Art Show and Coffee House. The Lounge area was booked on Friday, so we
changed the day of the coffee house to Thursday. Nina will be looking into arranging coffee and treats for the
coffee house, see her for any concerns.
·
As Friday is now completely open, and the Womyn’s center would like to
host some form of event, we have given them free reign over Friday. Nina will be attending their meeting on
Wednesday to help them plan their event.
·
The schedule for Gender Week is:
o Monday: Drag Show
o Tuesday: Movie Day
o Wednesday: Panel Discussion (Transgendered Mental and
Physical Health Care)
o Thursday: Movie Day and Coffee House
o Friday: Womyn’s Center event
2. Pink Triangle Day
·
Hence forth will be known as Triangle Day (i.e. we’re dropping the pink)
·
If anybody has any thoughts to go on the web page, let Nina know.
·
We will not be holding a kiss-in on Triangle Day, refer to item 3.
3. Kiss-In
·
Brent has initiated to have a Kiss-In on the same day as a CBS (Canadian
Blood Services) Blood Drive, which may be happening in the next few
months. It would be a CFS (Canadian
Federation of Students) event, which would not only help CFS have a greater
presence on campus; it would alleviate a lot of the stress from the
collective. The next CFS meeting is
this Sunday, so anyone with questions or concerns should see Brent before then.
4. Directors
·
The election cycle starts February 7th, so if you are
interested in becoming a volunteer director representing LGBT* students to the
board of directors, talk to Nina or Michelle in the next little while.
5. Day Of Action
·
We need tons of volunteers, so if you’re in the mood, bring your friends
too and talk to Nina, or Margaret, or Kendra, or Chantelle. We need people both before and during the
actual day, which is February 5th.
·
We will be making our banner and placards after Gender Week.
6. Rainbow Resource Center
Conference
·
Brent spoke about a conference the Rainbow Resource Center is hosting in
the Spring, see him for more information.
7. Drag King Show
·
Reese needs help for the Drag King Show this Saturday at Gio’s, If you
can do door or spotlight, talk to Elisheva.
8. ASC Potluck
·
The ASC (Aboriginal Students Center) has invited us to their potluck on
the 15th
9. Tours and Pamphlets
·
Apparently on a tour last week, our center was left out of the
tour! The coordinators will look into
this further.
·
Also, since last week, our entire pamphlet rack has been emptied! Same with the Womyn’s center and IRC!
