[GRANDMA in kitchen, about in her 60's, talking on (red) phone holding it between her ear her shoulder so she can work on a cake.]

ANTHONY
[over phone] Hello?

GRANDMA
Anthony? Oh, congratulations on your exam results.

ANTHONY
Grandma, I failed.

[Medium-shot, behind and up the stairs from ANTHONY. He's sitting on empty staircase at home.]

GRANDMA
[over phone] You failed? What do you mean, you failed?

ANTHONY
I mean I failed. Math, English, Physics, Geography, German, Woodwork, Art--I failed.

[Close-up of GRANDMA's hand carefully adjusting the center decoration on the perfect, beribboned, white cake ("CONGRATULATIONS" in orange icing).]

GRANDMA
You didn't pass anything?

ANTHONY
[over phone] Pottery.

GRANDMA
Pottery? Very useful! Anthony, people will always need plates. Anything else?

ANTHONY
[over phone] And Sociology.

[Close-up of ANTHONY. He's about fifteen, in his dissheveled school uniform, is out of it, then struck dumb by her reply.]

GRANDMA
[over phone] An ology. He gets an ology and he says he's failed. You get an ology, you're a scientist!

[Medium-shot of GRANDMA still sitting at the table in the kitchen, has the phone in her hand now, still talking.]

NARRATOR
Whether it's well done or hard luck, a phone call says a lot.

GRANDMA
--and the most brilliant boys, it's the teacchers that were wrong. You know, they can't mark. A lot of them can't see.

[Blue screen with Product Telecom logo superimposed on it in yellow. Under that: "It's you we answer to"]

NARRATOR
Product Telecom. It's you we answer to.
