WE CONDEMN TERRORISM NOW AND FOREVER

The case of Abdullah Ocalan, leader of the terrorist PKK, will start to be heard by the European Court of Human Rights on November 21, 2000.

Terrorist Ocalan, who is responsible for the death and injury of thousands of innocent people, has been prosecuted in a "fair" way by the Turkish independent courts. Members of the European Council, who closely monitored the prosecution, stated in their report that "the procedure followed in Ocalan's trial was correct and compatible with the principles of law" .

Ocalan himself has admitted that he had never been subjected to any kind of torture and maltreatment before or during the trial.

Then, what is the case that will be heard by the European Court of Human Rights on November 21, 2000? What will be prosecuted in Strasbourg?

While emphasizing that the terrorism is an international, rather than a regional problem spreading everyday more and more on our globalizing world, we wish to underline that in Strasbourg, the "terrorist" and the "terrorism" will be prosecuted.

Ocalan, who is under trial being accused of "treason and conducting mass murders", has admitted that he was guilty and he has been convicted by an independent court.

Any conduct meaning to support Ocalan would actually be a support to the terrorist PKK and other terrorist organizations.

Please never forget that those who support terrorists are as guilty as terrorists themselves. One day, the terrorists might well choose their supporters as their victims.

We believe that anybody who has common sense would support the slogan of "we condemn terrorism now and forever", a slogan which has been adopted by the Turkish mothers, who feel the miseries of terrorism deeply in their hearts. At the same time, we expect that the European Court of Human Rights will not yield to the pressure coming from terrorists and will give Ocalan a fitting punishment for his crimes.
