After the Earth/Minbari war the Earth Government decided to begin building a Babylon Station to create peace and to prevent further mistakes. However Babylons 1,2 and 3 were all sabotaged and destroyed. Information on the first 3 stations is difficult at best but the first Babylon station appeared quite large and was red in colour. The 4th Babylon station disappeared 24 hours after going on-line.By the 5th station Earth was getting fed up with having their stations blown up and their funds were quite low after spending money on the previous stations. So Earth asked for funds to help build Babylon 5, suprisingly the Minbari were the first to offer funds and slowly other worlds began following the Minbari example.

Babylon 4 mysteriously vanished after being on-line for only 24 hours. This station was almost 10 kilometres in length and boasted a defence system capable of taking on 3 warships at once. It also had the capacity of 108 Starfury fighters. Sections that rotated in different directions at different speeds simulated working in a planetary environment. It was later revealed that B4 was taken through time by The White Star to 1000 years ago during a Shadow war where it was to be used as a replacement for one of the Minbari's tactical outposts which was destroyed by Shadows. Without B4 the Minbari would have lost the war and the Shadows would have been too strong in the next war.

This station was not as large as B4 and did not have counter-rotating system in operation and did not have the fighter complement or the defence capabilities or length of its predecessor, but it is the most famous of the Babylon stations. For instance it survived more than 24 hours being on-line and did create peace as everyone had hoped.The station was 5 miles long and housed 48 Starfury fighters. At first the station was not well defended but received an upgrade later in 2260 and then B5 could take on a warship. That did happen on a few occasions. B5 once had to destroy a Centauri Primus battlecruiser and had to fight Earth warships when B5 broke away from the Earth Alliance in 2261. Numerous Raider and alien attacks were fought off without too much difficulty.
