Sasami is the Second Crown Princess of Jurai, and Aeka's little sister. Her father is Azusa, the Emperor of Jurai, and her mother is Misaki, the Second Queen of Jurai.
Sasami is 708 years old, although she spent 700 years in suspended animation. Thus, her appearance is that of an 8 year old. About 700 years ago, Sasami left Jurai with her older sister Aeka to search for their half-brother Yousho, who left Jurai in pursuit of the space pirate Ryouko who had attacked Jurai. After Aeka captures Ryouko (and Tenchi who was an innocent bystander), it was Sasami who frees Tenchi. She then asks Tenchi to play with her. Her game was to take Aeka's tiara from her head while Aeka was asleep. Tenchi almost gets killed as Aeka is none too pleased with his intrusion...
After their ship Ryu-oh gets disabled, Sasami and her sister Aeka accept Tenchi's offer to stay with his family. Unlike Aeka, Sasami's carefree attitude allows her to easily adjust to life on Earth. She doesn't understand why Aeka is so reluctant to venture out from their room in the Misaki residence and enjoy Earth the way she does. Sasami is instrumental in breaking the ice between Aeka and everyone else in the Masaki home, but she can do little for the relationship between Aeka and Ryouko. Sasami is also best friends with Ryo-ohki, the "cabbit" creature who is Ryouko's ship reborn (in Tenchi Muyo! ships can reproduce themselves).
One word can easily describe Sasami...cute! She also has a very outgoing personality, though at times she can seem very mature for an 8 year old. She gets along fine with everyone, including Ryouko! She seems very innocent, but at times she does love to play harmless practical jokes on the other members of the household. Sasami also does most of the cooking for the household since neither Aeka and Ryouko are good at it. She considers Tenchi as an older brother, though at times it appears she does have a school girl crush on him. She enjoys playing with Ryo-ohki, and the two are nearly inseparable.
However, behind Sasami's adorableness lies an unusual past. During Ryouko's attack on Jurai, Sasami (who was 3 at the time) wandered into a room containing the Royal Trees of Jurai. These trees form the heart of Jurai's spaceships, and here also was where Tsunami, the most powerful tree and also one of three powerful goddesses, could be found. While Sasami was exploring this room, a ship that was out of control crashed into the palace. The shock caused Sasami to slip and fall from a high ledge. She was near death when Tsunami assimilated with Sasami in order to save her. Sasami and Tsunami are two different people now, but sometime in the future they will merge. When they do, they will still retain their individual memories. As of now, Sasami displays some powers that can be linked back to Tsunami, such as the ability to have dreams which foretell of coming events. She is also the owner of the Jurai's most powerful ship, Tsunami. There is definitely more to this fun-loving young girl than meets the eye.
