Tenchi’s Real Life Tenchi was in a particularly good mood as he walked up the path that led to his home. That is, until he was within earshot of Ryoko and Ayeka fighting. He could just hear explosions and curses, and he wished that just for one day there would not be a fight. As he neared the door, he could make out what was being said. "How dare you, demon!" he heard Ayeka sneer. "Do you honestly believe that Tenchi would want YOU? YOU, the spoilt princess?" Ryoko shouted at Ayeka. He suddenly thought that maybe the back door would be a better idea, so he started walking around. He got to the door, went in, and straight up to his room, and no one even noticed he was home. He had managed to ignore the fight slightly, so as to remember why he was in such a good mood, but then thought of a problem. "AAARRRGGG!!!!! MIHOSHI!!" screamed Washu, as she found the vial shattered on the floor, it's contents forming a slimy purple puddle right by her desk. Washu knew that she shouldn't have gone off without turning on ALL the Mihoshi pre-warning systems, especially the ones that go off throughout the house so that she could've heard it in the kitchen. The vial contained a mixture vital for her experiment that she was trying to perform. Now she’ll have to recreate the serum. "Oh well, I might as well get on with fixing it. Now Mihoshi has got me talking to myself , honestly, that woman..."Someone entering her lab interrupted her. "Washu! Washu..." Tenchi called as he walked in. "Hello Little Washu." "Oh, hi Tenchi." she said calmly as she quietly shifted her position to block Tenchi's view of the bottle behind her marked ‘Tenchi Sperm Sample’. Did you require something?" "Yes, actually I was wondering if you could help me. You see, I've been invited to this party, but I don't know if going is such a good idea. There'll be other girls, and Ayeka or Ryoko may do something harsh..." "Other girls? Hmmm..." Her mind suddenly started to wonder onto the possibility of testing one of her new potions, but then started seeing complications such as keeping track of the person whom she tests it on. It was then that the perfect opportunity first proposed itself to her. "I think you should go, Tenchi, but take a bodyguard. Just to keep Ryoko and Ayeka away. What about Mihoshi?" "Mihoshi?" Tenchi literally took a few steps back by this suggestion. "Yes, but don't worry, I have something I want to test on her first. You can leave it all up to me, just tell whomever that you'll be there." As soon as Tenchi left her lab, rubbing the back of his head, as he was a little confused, she started seeing Mihoshi sick in bed for a few, oh, months maybe, with some or other side effect that she could easily cure, when she feels like it. And as an added bonus, she'll get to fix all bugs with the potion, AFTER Mihoshi has taken it. Kagato laughed out loud the moment he thought of his brilliant plan. He had arranged for his own resurrection quite a while ago, just in case something happened to him. Something, like Tenchi. Now, back on his new Souja, he had just discovered that Sasami would grow up to be Tsunami, thus all he had to do would be to kidnap her. Not too difficult, especially as they all think that he's dead, besides, people on Earth go missing all the time. So, if he could just stay hidden until his opportunity arrives, then nothing can go wrong. Hello?" Mihoshi said as she answered the phone in her apartment. "Hello Mihoshi. I was wondering if you'd mind doing Tenchi and myself a favour?" Washu replied with as much friendliness as she could muster. "Do Tenchi a favour? Why, sure! What must I do?" she answered eagerly."Well, Tenchi needs a bodyguard next week Friday night, and I need to tes... uh, give you something that will make you perfect for the job." Just then, Kiyone walked in after a hard day's work, and, curious as to whom Mihoshi is speaking to, stood by the kitchen door to listen. "Be a bodyguard for Tenchi? ... yeah...You want to see me next week Thursday afternoon? Sure...yeah...OK...goodbye Washu." Mihoshi hung up and saw Kiyone standing in the doorway. "Hey Kiyone, guess what?" Mihoshi was about to pop with excitement. "Uh, Washu needs you to be a bodyguard for Tenchi next week?" Kiyone replied, purposefully trying to make it sound as if it was just a random guess. "Yeah, hey Kiyone, are you a mind reader?" Mihoshi said, slightly deflated that her partner had guessed her news. "Don't worry, Mihoshi, don't worry at all" Kiyone said as she bowed her head, put her hands on her forehead, and just shook it. "Anyway," Kiyone said as she lifted her head, "why does Tenchi need a bodyguard?" Mihoshi explained all about Tenchi going to a party and needing to be guarded against Ryoko and Ayeka. Kiyone started to wonder what was Washu thinking. "Is she sick? Did she hurt her head?" Kiyone wondered. She suddenly thought of the idea of herself replacing Mihoshi. She’d go talk to Washu Thursday morning then. Tenchi could feel the butterflies in his stomach. As he sat at the dinner table, he knew that his father would ask him what news he had. Now, rather than lie, he knew this would be the best time to tell his father about the party, and ask for permission to go. The fear, however, came from what Ryoko and Ayeka might do to get him to take one of them. " So, Tenchi, what happened today?" Noboyuki asked between a mouthful rice. "Oh, uh, I did a cool science experiment, and oh, yeah, I’ve been invited to go to a party next week Friday." Tenchi paused to scan Ryoko and Ayeka. "So, can I go dad?" "Why not? Sure" came the relaxed answer. He checked Ryoko and Ayeka again. Nothing. He finished Sasami’s delicious meal and excused himself. He was overjoyed that Ryoko and Ayeka had done nothing. However, they had not responded because they had both been fantasising about Tenchi and themselves, dancing closely, him telling her how much he loved her and dislike the other. Neither of them even considered the fact that he had no plans of taking anyone. When neither had been asked by Monday, they both got the idea that maybe he needed a little pushing. The first of these ‘attacks’ came on the Monday with Ryoko trying to get him to go and take a bath with her. The second came on Tuesday morning, when Ayeka decided to follow him around, telling him how good he is at everything. On Wednesday, he was doing his chores when Ayeka asked him if he’d like to have a picnic with her, but just after she asked him, Ryoko appeared with plans to take him for a walk. So, during the middle of the fight, which followed shortly, he went inside and neither even noticed he was gone. As he sat in his room he started to wonder why he could never get a nice, normal, girl to fall for him? Thursday Kiyone rolled over, using the momentum to swing her arm on to the buzzing alarm clock. She heard a crack as her fist hit it but at least it stopped. "Curses", she mumbled as she lay in bed, annoyed that she had not remembered to turn it off last night as she had taken the day off. Since she was up anyway, she decided she may as well make some coffee. As she stood up she checked Mihoshi. Still asleep, obviously. 7:30 was far too early for Mihoshi. As she walked into their kitchen, she stopped to look out the window. While she was admiring the sunrise over the mountains, she began wondering whether she’d ever find someone to enjoy this view with. Someone who would be awake at this time, though. As she finished her coffee she thought that she may as well get dressed and go see Washu early, so then she’d have the rest of the day to herself. That’s what she’d do then. Sasami stopped and looked over her shoulder. Nothing. She continued to pull carrots for her soup that she’d be making for lunch."There it is again!" she thought. "That rustling in the bushes!" She turned around and scanned the surrounding bushes and forest. She could see nothing, but the hairs on the back of her neck were standing on end, so she decided to leave. She grabbed two more carrots and ran for the house. "Brilliant!" Kagato thought. "Just a few more hours and you’ll be mine! Very soon I’ll have the greatest power in the universe! Very soon indeed" Kiyone heard an alarm go off as she entered Washu’s lab. She was then scanned by some robot, and, when found not to be Mihoshi, the alarm stopped. She found Washu typing at her holo-top. "Hello Little Washu." "Oh, hello. What brings the top GP detective woman to see me?" Washu asked as she stopped typing and turned around. "I kind of need to talk to you about what you’re doing with Mihoshi." "Uh oh" Washu started to wonder how Kiyone would act if she found out that she had intended to poison her partner. "Poison her, that is ultimately what I was going to do. How could I have let myself even think of doing that?!? I was extremely angry last week, but that’s no excuse." "Washu? Hello Washu?" Washu’s thoughts were interrupted by Kiyone’s hand being waved in front of her face. "Huh? Oh, sorry." She just knew that she had to fix things. "Yeah, Tenchi needs to be guarded tomorrow night, well not guarded exactly, just someone needs to make sure neither Ryoko nor Ayeka get to him. I was momentarily disturbed when I asked Mihoshi to do it, you know, stress and all. So are you busy tomorrow night?" Washu quickly asked. "Well, Mihoshi did have her heart set on it, but for Tenchi’s sake I guess I’d better do it. How could I tell Mihoshi though?" "I know. I’ll tell her to come here before she goes off, and I’ll entertain her for the evening. Then, I’ll tell her that she did exactly what she needed to do and she’ll go off happy. Right? Right. So it’s settled then. You’ll tell Mihoshi I need to see her at about 6:30 and you’ll be at the party at seven. Good. Bye Kiyone." "Wait Washu. I’m not so sure" Kiyone’s vision suddenly went black, but she forced her eyes to open, and found herself in her apartment. "Washu!" Then she suddenly found the piece of paper on the floor. It was the address of the party. "Oh well, it’ll only be once" So she told Mihoshi to go and see Washu on Friday and set about relaxing for the rest of the day. Friday "Of course I’ll go with you Tenchi, hmmm" Just then Ayeka walked into the lounge and saw Ryoko asleep on the couch. Since she was sure she had heard a voice, she thought that she'd wait a while and see if it happened again. "Marry you as well? Of course, hmmm,I love you too Tenchi" "I’m not going to let that demon marry my Tenchi, even in her own dreams!" Ayeka thought, then got an idea better than waking her up. She leaned right over Ryoko and whispered, in her most masculine voice, into Ryoko’s ear, "I don’t really love you. Why would anyone love a demon like you over a beautiful princess like Ayeka? I love her and will marry her." She watched with delight as Ryoko’s facial expression changed from a smile to one of distress and disbelief. She then mumbled something about Tenchi joking. Ayeka leaned over again and said,"I love Ayeka." Ryoko slowly started to open her eyes, and saw Ayeka’s face. Realising why Tenchi had such a strange voice she got so angry that she chased Ayeka out into the carrot field, all the while firing energy bolts at her. "Hmmm. These two may not pose as much of a problem as I had first anticipated." Kagato thought as the fight brought the girls right to his hiding place. "There is not a hope in hell that Tenchi will take YOU to the party tonight!" Ryoko shouted to Ayeka. "So, if the heir to the throne of Jurai is going out tonight, and these two will be too busy fighting each other, then tonight is the time that I’ll get the young one. Brilliant!" Kagato thought whilst slowly slipping away. As Tenchi came walking up the path to his house, he heard the all too familiar sounds of a fight. As he got nearer they stopped and came to greet him. "Hello Tenchi. Could you please tell this stupid girl that I’m going to the party tonight with you, right?" Ryoko blurted out. "Lord Tenchi was going to ask me you insensitive demon, right Lord Tenchi?" Ayeka responded. "Uh," he started as he saw both girls’ faces staring right at him, both expecting the same answer. "Well, actually, I’m not allowed to bring friends, so if you weren’t invited, then you can’t go. I’m sorry." He blatantly lied. How could he tell them that he just didn’t want either of them there? He felt terrible but what could he do? And so the afternoon was one with no fights, and at 7:00 Tenchi left for the party. It was 7:30 by the time he got there, and, seeing an open door, just went in. He was surprised at the amount of people there. Just then one of his friends came to greet him. "Perfect. No sign of either of them." Kiyone thought as she casually glanced around the room as she poured herself a drink. "Ah, there’s Lord Tenchi. He looks kind of cute tonight" she thought, but interrupted herself. "Focus! I’d best stay hidden from him for a while." She unknowingly whispered to herself, drawing a strange look from the guy next to her. It wasn’t for another 45 minutes until Tenchi saw her, but only from behind. "Hmmm, who is that? I don’t think she goes to my school. Probably finished school. Those jeans look just amazing on her" Tenchi suddenly stopped the thought as he knew what kind of thoughts might pop into his head. He doesn’t need that, and besides, he’s better than that. "Oh well, I guess I’ll find out who she is later." After another 20 minutes Kiyone doubted very much that neither Ayeka nor Ryoko would show up. "I wonder why they didn’t come?" she mumbled. Ryoko and Ayeka, however, had other plans for their evening. Ryoko had gotten drunk on sake due to depression earlier that afternoon, and so pitched the idea to Ayeka that maybe they should go have ‘a night on the town’. She had no idea what it would entail, but she’d heard of some people doing it on T.V. and it sounded like a good idea. Ayeka thought so too. As Mihoshi opened the door and entered Washu’s lab, she was surprised that nothing happened. "Well, Washu did want to see me, so" Mihoshi thought as she walked in. She was also wondering where Tenchi was as she wanted to see him. "Hello Mihoshi. How are you this evening?" Washu asked with artificial friendliness. "Break anything and you’re outta here", she thought, still smiling at Mihoshi. "Hello Little Washu. I’m fine. What can I do for you?" "Oh, you’ll find out, but first could you please follow me?" Washu asked as she walked away. Mihoshi followed. "Soon I’ll have the greatest power in the universe!" Kagato thought as he approached Sasami’s window. He looked in from the cover of a bush and watched. He saw Sasami reading on her bed. He then heard her giggle, which turned into a laugh as she read on. As she finished reading she was wiping tears from her eyes, all the time smiling. She put her book down and went into the living room, so he moved to a new bush so he could continue to watch her. After he had removed a few thorns that were causing discomfort to his rear, he resumed his watch of the young princess. He observed her talking with Yosho for a while, and although he did not know what was being said, he saw her ear-to-ear smile as she gave Yosho a huge bear hug. He then heard her call Ryo-Okhi and wondered what it was that was causing him to doubt whether he should take her. Then, as Ryo-Okhi came hopping in and saw the two playing and laughing (in Ryo-Okhi’s case meowing), he found his answer. Happiness does not come from incredible force or power. He could just picture how miserable this child’s life would be if he took her from her loved ones, and knew he couldn’t bear knowing that he had the chance of giving this girl happiness by just leaving her alone. He found it strange that an eight-year-old girl could show a being that has existed for uncountable millennia happiness. He knew he shouldn’t do it, and so silently thanked Sasami, and warped back aboard Souja and left the system. "I wonder what Ayeka and Ryoko are doing? I shouldn’t have lied to them." Tenchi thought as he wandered out into the garden, found a tree, and sat under it, staring at the stars. "This is so relaxing. I really need to do this more often." "Tell me about it," came the answer. "Wha,who’s there? Who is it?" Tenchi blurted out as he jumped up from his position. "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you. It’s just me, Kiyone." She said as she poked her head around from the other side of the tree, smiling at Tenchi. "Kiyone?" he said as he walked round and sat next to her. "Yeah, I wanted to come to this party just in case Ayeka or Ryoko decided to attend, but they didn’t, and I’m quite sure that they won’t either. So I thought I may as well go outside, I mean, I know no one here so it’s not like I’m missing much in there." Kiyone explained with a shrug of her shoulders. While she was explaining he realised that this is the woman he’d seen from behind earlier, still with those amazing jeans. I didn’t know that she had clothes like these. Wow! Although she’d look good in almost anything. Now that I think about it, I’ve hardly ever seen her out of uniform. I should go see her more often then. Tenchi suddenly stopped his thoughts as he realised that maybe he was supposed to have responded, but Kiyone had picked up that his mind was elsewhere, and so continued in an attempt to get a response this time. "The stars are beautiful tonight. It’s weird, because I’ve been to so many of them, and most humans haven’t even been to one." "Yeah, I’ve only ever been to Jurai, but that’s still one more than any human I know of." Tenchi responded, now considerably more alert. "What is this, Washu?" Mihoshi asked, looking at the strange looking electrical equipment. Since she’d been following Washu around all evening, and she had not attempted to start one conversation, Mihoshi deduced that she must be waiting for her to start one. Now Mihoshi had learnt from somewhere or someone (she couldn’t quite remember) that it is polite to talk to someone about their interests. Even if you know nothing about it (or about anything in Mihoshi’s case) you could just pretend a little, ask a lot of questions and learn as you go. "That is a cerebral transmogrifier." Washu replied without even looking away from her computer. "And this?" Mihoshi said while pointing at the robot standing next to the table with the cerebral thing. "That is Techno 110," she replied, at least looking at Mihoshi this time. She noticed how she actually looked interested. "What does it do then?" "Well, it CAN do lots of things, but I mainly use him to keep my lab clean." "Oh, you know we have something like that at Headquarters. Ours probably aren’t as advanced though." Mihoshi was pleased that she finally got a conversation started. "Do they have any other robots at the HQ?" Washu surprised Mihoshi by asking the question this time. "Well, none exactly this shape, but we have ones that clean, um, and ones that keep the criminals under watch, and my old spaceship had one. Yukinojoe. He was a little bossy though." Washu suddenly realised that Mihoshi isn’t so bad after all. It was real good for Washu to have someone to talk to at least. Tenchi glanced at his watch. He was surprised to find that he’d been talking with Kiyone for about an hour already. He’d hardly noticed, in fact he thought that it had only been about 15 minutes. "and that’s how we got away from the Harukan bar without getting touched." Kiyone stopped speaking and started staring at the stars. Tenchi was awe-struck by the depth and unique beauty of Kiyone’s greenish-blue eyes. He could not help but to stare at the way the stars’ twinkling reflections showed up on the surface of her eyes giving the illusion that they were glistening. His admiration of them was interrupted by a clump of her metallic-green hair falling over her right eye. She casually brushed it back and turned to face Tenchi. For an instant their eyes locked and as they gazed into each others eyes they both felt something that they were equally unaccustomed to. They both felt awkward but excited and neither knew quite what to do, so they broke the moment as they both started to stare at the stars. Kiyone was the first to look down and took the opportunity to gaze into Tenchi’s personality through his eyes. As she stared at his sparkling brown eyes she began to realise what Ryoko and Ayeka must feel. Just then Tenchi looked down to see his watch, so in an attempt to hide the fact that she’d been staring at Tenchi she pretended to be fascinated by a bush behind him, but he knew what happened. "Oh no! I was supposed to have left 10 minutes ago. Oh well, shall we go?" Tenchi asked as he stood up and reached down to Kiyone to help her up. As she took Tenchi’s hand they both felt a strange rush."How were you going to get home?" Tenchi asked as they started walking away from their tree. "Well, Mihoshi was supposed to have picked me up, but since she forgot I guess I’ll be walking." "Your apartment isn’t to far off course for me, so, uh, could I walk you home?" "Of course. Thank you." "and you can just guess what he did when he found out that she’d done it anyway, even though he warned her, but you know, she still managed to keep her,OH NO!" Mihoshi gasped as she suddenly realised the time. "What is it?" Washu asked, wondering why Mihoshi didn’t finish. "I was supposed to have picked up Kiyone 20 minutes ago! I’m sorry Little Washu but I really must go." She said as she got up and made her way to the door. "Uh, well, Mihoshi, if you ever fell like doing this again, I’d love to have you back. So come say hi soon, OK?" Washu couldn’t believe that she’d just said that. " Really? Thanks Miss Washu. I’ll be back as soon as I have some spare time." Mihoshi’s face was lit up like a light bulb as she ran out smiling. Once Mihoshi had gone Washu wondered if that was such a good idea. "Oh, Washu, who’d have thought that you’d find friendship in someone so completely different to yourself. I guess even you can still learn some things, but from Mihoshi aswell. Huh, oh well." Washu stopped talking to herself and stood motionless for a minute. She then turned off all the Mihoshi warning alarms. Ayeka and Ryoko had an interesting evening. One that at least caused them to forget their depression for a while. They had wandered into town and found a place called ‘Tony’s Karioke Bar’. "What’s Karioke, Ayeka?" Ryoko asked. "I don’t know, but it’s a bar so maybe they’ll have sake." Ayeka replied. So they went in. After two hours of drinking sake and seeing people stand up and sing they decided to show these humans how to sing. So they staggered onto the stage and started singing. The next thing they knew they were sitting in the street after being thrown out by the big, loud, obnoxious, bartender Tony, who’s style it was to swear at everyone (including his customers) and his friend. The only name they caught for his friend was ‘The Legend’. "I don’t care how much you owe me, but your payment can be that you never come in here again, and that you never even consider a career as a singer, either of you!" As Tony finished his speech (which has had all the swearing removed) he went back in, slamming the door behind him. "What do you suppose that was all about?" Ayeka asked while trying in vain to stand up. "I don’t have a clue, but I like his idea of being a professional singer. With my looks and voice I’ll go far in that business."
