Azusa is the current emperor of Jurai. He has two wives as is the custom on Jurai. He is the first emperor, however, to marry out of the Jurai culture, and Azusa also decreed that the Jurai should continue to mingle their blood with those of other planets. His first wife is Funaho, an earthling, and his second wife is Misaki, who is Juraian. He is the father of Yousho, Aeka, and Sasami, and he is also Tenchi's great grandfather. In fact, Tenchi is currently next in line to the throne when Azusa's reign as emperor of Jurai ends.
Azusa's powers were never demonstrated in public, though his power is at least as great as that of Yousho. Azusa can be very stubborn, and he will rarely capitulate to anyone. He does, however, give deference to his wives, who are both very powerful and persuasive women in their own right. Azusa is also very honorable in that he keeps his word. Although he is also the jealous type, wanting attention from those around him, his honor takes precedence. For example, he allowed both Aeka and Sasami to stay in accordance with the deal he made that Aeka and Sasami could do as they please if Tenchi defeated Seriyou, even though Azusa desired tremendously that Aeka and Sasami return home immediately. However, Azusa does not seem to be through with his great grandson Tenchi yet, and he hints that he will be entering Tenchi's life again soon.
Funaho is the first wife of Azusa, the emperor of Jurai, and the First Queen of Jurai. She also serves as the head of several Juraian ministries. She is the mother of Yousho, and thus Tenchi's great-grandmother. Funaho is also very unique in that she is an Earthling from the days of feudal Japan. When she was young, she was kidnapped by Azusa and taken back to Jurai, where she married him. She still retains her youthful appearance due to the life water found on the planet of Jurai. She is the first queen of Jurai to not be from Jurai, and there are those on Jurai who still hold prejudice towards other races. It was because of this prejudice that Yousho left Jurai under the pretext of persuing Ryouko in order to escape subjecting himself and Aeka to these prejudices.
Funaho is very level headed and radiates calmness. She can be a very persuasive speaker, and the fact that she is head of Jurai's ministries gives her access to a lot of information that she uses to win over others to her cause. Her intelligence is matched by her inpeccable grace and manners. Her outward appearance is almost to the point where it is hard for others to figure out if she is hiding anything under her calm exterior. She still cares for Yousho, despite the fact that he has not contacted her in 700 years, Aeka, Sasami, and everyone else she meets at the Masaki household during the visit to Earth, especially her great-grandson Tenchi. In fact, during her visit, Tenchi seems to look at her at his mother, being that he lost his own mother when he was still young.
Misaki is married to the emperor of Jurai, Azusa, and is the Second Queen of Jurai. She is also the mother of Aeka and Sasami. In addition to being queen, Misaki also serves as the head of the Juraian Royal Guard.
Misaki is almost the opposite of Funaho. While Funaho radiates calmness, Misaki is very emotional. Misaki does not hesitate to act on impulse, and she can be extremely happy one minute, then sad or angry the next. Being the emotional type, she constantly displays affection towards those she cares about, especially her daughters, but she can also be very demanding for affection as well. For instance, she insists that her daughters refer to her as mommy rather than mother or mom. She is also very protective. For instance, Ryouko began to make fun of Aeka for calling her mother "mommy", and Misaki instantly turned on Ryouko and threatened Ryouko until she apologized for making fun of Aeka. In the end, Misaki expresses her love for all of them, Ryouko included, and also towards her great-grandnephew Tenchi. Misaki appears to possess great strength, which is probably why she is the head of the Royal guard. Add this to the fact that she is very emotional, and it is no wonder that even Azusa seems to fear getting Misaki upset. Misaki also cares a lot for Funaho, and the two queens often refer to each other as "sister".
