These Character Bios are temporary and will be replaced by more comprehensive ones in the near future, so check back soon! Tom's family on his mom's side.... Henry and Alma Miller - Lisa's parents lived in nearby Rockford, Illinois though at some point (perhaps after Henry's death) Alma moved in with her daughter and grandsons (Tom was living with Lisa at the time, along with Chuckie). Lisa Miller Hughes, etc. - Like Bob and John, her history is just too complicated to go into here. Suffice it to say that throughout Tom's childhood she flitted into and out of his life, often without regard to how it was affecting him. Though they are very close now, they have had their falling outs--in recent years over Lisa's lawsuit against John, over her putting Margo on the stand and forcing Margo to testify against her own father, and over her treatment of her other son Scott. [Part of Tom and Lisa's closeness was due to the fact that he was her only child and helped her take care of all of her businesses. Scott's arrival upset that balance terrifically. It also didn't help matters that Lisa had a blind eye where Scott's misdeeds were concerned while she held Tom to an almost impossible standard--Lisa's "moral dyslexia" as Margo called it.] Scott Eldridge - Speaking of Scott, he would be the closest of Tom's siblings in age (being just a few years younger), but not in temperament. The son of Lisa and John Eldridge, Scott grew up without either parent's love. His mother basically sold him to his father and grandmother (Helen) for a hefty sum of money that provided her with the foundation for her current wealth. His father, meanwhile, always believed that Scott was actually fathered by his brother Thomas (whom Lisa did have an affair with and truly loved) and didn't find out until he was on his deathbed that wasn't true. It was as John was dying that Lisa was finally reunited with her son. He, of course, was very resentful at first (and Tom wasn't too thrilled about the truth either; though Margo accepted Scott with open arms), but ended up moving to Oakdale to get to know his mother. He became involved with Lucinda's half-sister Neal Alcott and also had a brief fling with Lucinda herself. Following Neal's murder, he fled Oakdale. When Scott returned to town several years later, the law and business school graduate seemed a little younger and a whole lot more of a schemer. Lisa's constant excuses for him while lambasting Tom for standing up for his wife over his mother created a lot of tension in her family. When Lisa finally realized what a schemer Scott really was, she finally told him off and disinherited him. He left town almost immediately thereafter and hasn't been heard from since. During that stay in Oakdale, BTW, Scott tried to hook up with Lucinda's other half-sister Samantha Markham with whom, if I'm not mistaken, he shared a past. One last thing about Scott... his cousin, Carl Eldridge, is/was Tom and Jessica's partner in their law firm (Hughes Griffin & Eldridge). Presumably these days he's the one left holding down the fort. [And another bit of ATWT history, Carl was played by Richard Backus who years earlier had been the plastic surgeon who transformed an amnesiac Betsy Stewart from Meg Ryan into Lindsay Frost. He was also a breakdown writer on the show during Douglas Marland's tenure and was one half of the head writing team who took over the show following Marland's death.] Charles (Chuckie) Shea - Chuckie might have been the sibling Tom was closest to if he had lived. The two brothers were relatively close in age and Tom was actually around a bit when he was growing up. Unfortunately, Chuckie was killed in a car accident while Tom drove him home from camp one day. It was Doug Marland's intention to resurrect Chuckie (whom he learned was unresurrectable) that led to the creation of the Scott character. |
