Emily drops Daniel off at Tom's and takes off, without any explanation of where she's going. Emily visits David Stenbeck in prison and offers to help him appeal his sentence if he agrees to be a silent partner in The Intruder.

John consults Tom about having Andy declared legally dead. Tom suggests that Denise should file the petition. Tom spots Emily with the owner of The Intruder and suspects she is planting a story smearing his family. Emily proudly announces to Lucinda she is her new media competition.

Tom confronts Emily about her letter to the readers in The Intruder, which paints her as a victim and Tom as the villain. She warns him not to push her or she will continue to ambush him in the paper. Chris offers to get a job at The Intruder to keep an eye on Emily. Chris and Tom stage an argument in which Chris supports Emily's cause in order to get Chris on Emily's good side. Emily is pleased with Chris and offers him a job.

At Java, Tom tells Lisa that he put Roland in jail four years ago. Lisa realizes Roland has duped her. Emily tries to find out more about Roland from Isaac, but he blows her off. As Lisa and Tom try to leave, Tom and Roland get into a fistfight. Emily watches with glee, envisioning the headlines in The Intruder. Isaac tosses Roland out for good. Emily gets her hands on Java's security tape to use in her story.

May 16

After seeing The Intruder article smearing Lisa and Tom, Jake confronts Emily on her agenda for revenge. Emily reveals she has a secret weapon in uncovering Oakdale scandals: cub reporter Chris Hughes. Jake is shocked his pal is working for Emily and dares him to quit and work for The City Times instead. Chris can't reveal why he's really working for Emily, so he claims he owes her since she gave him his first opportunity. A disgusted Jake stalks off. Tom takes Lisa to brunch with Nancy, trying to soothe her about Emily's article. They run into Chris and Emily and again Chris must lie about his allegiances. Tom is worried this is too hard on Chris, but he vows to remain undercover. Emily wants Chris to write a follow up about Lisa's past in Oakdale and Chris has no choice but to agree.

May 17

Tom tells Lisa he has his own strategy to deal with Emily and warns her not to seek revenge. Lisa proceeds anyway and asks Julia to find out where Emily got the money for her venture.

Tom visits Emily in her office and demands to know why Daniel is there and not at home. Chris and Tom argue when Chris attempts to defend Emily. Later, Chris is appalled when Emily tells him she plans to do a story on the Hughes' war over having Andy declared legally dead. After arguing, Emily fires Chris. Later, Chris hears Emily crying and promises to help her handle Tom if she doesn't print the article about his family. She thanks him, saying he is the only one on her side.

Tom and Margo were not on, but Abigail is upset to hear that Chris is working for Emily. She is relieved however, when he admits his secret agenda is to help Tom. Chris and Emily agree to forget about the past and watch each other's back.

At Andy's memorial service, Tom and John discuss Margo's absence. Chris convinces Emily to attend the service with him as a first step in making peace with his family. But Lisa lets Emily know that she is not welcome here! Emily leaves, deciding that Chris was wrong about forgiveness.

Tom aides in helping take Andy home to Kim and Bob's with his van. He stays for dinner with the Hughes.
