The series focuses on three main characters. Isamu A. Dyson,
Guld Goa Bowmann, and Myung Fang Lone.
Isamu A. Dyson, arrogant but brilliantyoung pilot, is
assigned to a new test project, as a punishment for
something he did wrong, at the colony planet Eden where
he grew up. There he finds an old enemy in the form of Guld Goa
Bowmann, a half Zentraedi who is also a test pilot at the base.
They are flying rival test aircraft that are being evaluated to
replace the current aging models in service, in a test project
known as Project SuperNova. Isamu flies the YF-19, which uses
standard controls with a few modifications, and Guld flies the
YF-21, which is controlled by thoughts from the pilot's
mind. Then an old friend to both of them arrives. Myung is
manager for a virtual singer known as Sharon Apple. The three
of them find themselves together at a place called Star Hill
on the Planet Eden. In the past all three of them grew up on Eden
as best of friends, but something came between them. Isamu and
Guld are now bitter enemies. Their meeting almost causes a clash
between them, but Myung intervenes.
What follows is some stunning aireal sequences, as Guld
tests the capabilities of the YF-21, and Isamu tries to keep
up in a chaser plane VF-11. Guld is able to evade all the rockets directed
at him, and Isamu, not to loose face, says that if Guld can evade
so can he. And he does, but looses one of his side engines in the
procees. Then something happens to Guld. He gets flashbacks and
looses his concentration.....Isame flyes to save him. As Isame is
flying him to safety, Guld gains control once again and does a turn
around manuever with Isamu holding on......Isamu barely scapes
before he crashes....As Guld gets off, he asks Isame, "you
are still alive?"
The Sharon Apple staff prepares for the concert on Eden.
Myung seems mysteriously linked to some of Sharon
Apple's devices. Isamu, Lucy, and Yang are seen entering
the stadium. Everyone who enters the stadium receives a
a wrist band. Which later on we find meausres excitment levels.
Millard questions Guld about what happened when the
YF-21 pushed the VF-11 to the ground. He also asks about
an abnormal wave pattern that showed up on the YF-21's
brainwave data. Guld claims that it was a malfunction but
Millard is still suspicious. As Guld walks out, Millard
orders a Dr. Worth to investigate the physical condition of
Guld.
Sharon Apple's concert begins. A display of computer
generated graphics fills the stadium to an astonished crowd.
As the concert proceeds, Marge and staff record the
excitement level of the crowd through the wrist bands. Yang
begins to hack into Sharon Apple's systems with his watch.
Sharon's image becomes distorted. Myung becomes
disturbed. The Sharon Apple staff try to track the source but
Yang stops hacking just in time. Myung notices Isamu on
her view screen. Marje wonders why Sharon has suddenly
become unstable. Yang tries to get Sharon to come to him
but she instead glides into Isamu's arm, giving him a kiss.
Myung is disturbed because of the concert and as she walks towards
her hotelroom, Marge expresses his concern that the public might
become aware that Sharon's program is incomplete. He tells Myung
to perform better next time.
Isamu prepares for the YF-19 test flight. Yang is unsure
about Isamu's abilities as he moves his hand around as if it
were the YF-19, he crashed it on the simulation. Isamu loves
the sight of the YF-19 as it, and ask it if it handles as well as
it looks. Isamu takes off and flies into space counting how long it
takes him to reach the outer atmosphere.
As he flies back towards earth, he performs acrobatic
maneuvers with the YF-19's copying the motions that he was
making with his hand. The smoke forms a picture of a
Pterosaur. The staff of New Edwards Base looks on perplexed.
Guld watches on with an angry look.......
The YF-21 and the YF-19 perform tests together. Isamu
performs better than Guld but Millard is unhappy with
Isamu's recklessness. He tells Isamu that recklessness
brings stupidity and no quality a soldier should have.
Isamu angrily leaves punching the commander's door plate
Guld goes through a check of weapons inventory. Ammunition
shells are seen being loaded.
Marge purchases a mysterious object while Myung has
dinner with her old friends Kate and Morgan. Myung
flashes back to a time when she, Isamu, and Guld were
kids, both make a promise to protect her forever.
Kate sings a Minmay song and then asks Myung to sing
the song she used to sing, "Voices" but
angrily declines but then calmsdown and walks out. Isamu
walks into Yang's office andsees that Yang has hacked into
portions of Sharon'sprogram. As Isamu stares at Sharon's
face, it turns and looks at him. Kate calls Isamu asking
him to come over.She also tells Isamu that it's strange that
Myung is only theproducer of Sharon Apple. Isamu angrily
declines to go after Kate says, "I guess you don't care if
Guld gets her."Myung leaves after she sees that Kate was
talking to Isamu. She heads towards the concert hall in a taxi.
Myung is in the room where Sharon's black box is located.
She starts talking about how she hates her old songs and
Sharon's songs. As she falls down crying, Sharon appears
in back of her. Guld and Isamu separately receive messages
that a fire will break out at the concert hall. Meanwhile,
Marje stores something in his safe deposit box.
The fire mysteriously breaks out and Myung is trapped in
her room. Guld gets to her first while Isamu speeds towards
the concert hall while being chased by cops. Guld cannot
get the door open until it mysteriously opens while a camera
looks on. He races towards the exit with an unconscious
Myung while vertical doors drop. He avoids the first two
but the third one drops on top of Guld. He forces it up with
all his might causing himself to bleed. Isamu arrives after
the fire has been put out and Guld and Myung are nowhere
to be seen.
Guld takes Myung back to her hotel room. Myung awakes
to find Guld at her bedside. She cleans up Guld's wound
and asks how he knew that there would be a fire. Guld tells
her about the strange message. As Guld prepares to leave,
Myung begins to cry about all the bad memories that she has
of the past. Guld takes her hand and...(fade out)
Dr. Worth gives Millard his report on Guld's physical, saying
that Guld has been suppressing his memories with a beta-endorphin
prescription (Used to control his temper). Millard puts the report
in on shredder and tells Dr. Worth to proceed with
the report quietly.
Isamu picks out his lunch at the mess hall. A jealous Lucy
confronts Isamu about who he went to see last night. Isamu
does not give her a full explanation and walks over to Guld.
Guld tells Isamu about how he saved Myung and that he
would protect her just as he promised when he was a kid.
As Isamu grabs Guld, Guld tells him that all they need to
fight over now is the project.
The YF-21 and YF-19 proceed with more test flights. Guld
and Isamu deviate from their flight course and begin to
fight. The base's officers begin cheering them on watching
the battle via satellite. Isamu and Guld punch and kick in
their Battroid modes smashing each other into buildings.
Isamu begins to shoot Guld with paint ball ammunition. As
the ammunition runs out, Isamu swings at Guld but Guld
catches it. Isamu puts some more force into it and breaks the
YF-21's arm. He then punches the YF-21 into a building
and begins kicking it on the ground. Guld appears to be
helpless. But he then cuts off the thought-control systems
and switches to manual control. Guld looks over to the
YF-19's gun.
Millard comes in wondering what is going on with all the
cheering. Everyone looks at Millard but suddenly an
explosion is heard. The YF-19 is lying on the ground with
smoke coming out of the cockpit.
As Myung is about to walk out the door, the phone rings
and Myung stands there with a worried expression on her
face.
Isamu awakes in the hospital to see Myung at his bedside.
Isamu asks Myung what she is doing here. She tells him
about the phone call that Morgan gave her telling her about
the test accident. Isamu begins to break out of the cords that
are holding him. Myung tries to stop him but Isamu grabs a
hold of her.
An inquiry is conducted to find out why live ammunition
was found in the YF-19's gunpod. No clues could be found
from the YF-21 because the brain wave data goes blank
before the accident. Guld, who is in charge of weapons
inventory tries to point the finger at Yang, who is a skilled
hacker. But the General just dismisses the incident and tells
everyone to proceed with the project.
Yang and Lucy visit Isamu at the hospital only to find that
he has escaped. Isamu takes Myung to a forest. They talk
about the experiences that they shared when they were
younger. Myung gets annoyed with Isamu over his daring
attitude. Isamu gets a little angry that Myung prefers
someone prudent like Guld. As Isamu walks away, a giant
pterosaur flies above them. Myung grasps a hold of Isamu's
arm. Isamu then tells Myung to stay put while he chases
after the pterosaur on the motorcycle.
A mysterious red aircraft called the Ghost X-9 blows away
a squadron of red Valkyries. UN Spacy officers monitor its
activity from a space station. As Lucy and Yang wait for
Isamu to return to the hospital, Guld shows up. As Isamu
and Myung arrive, Guld and Isamu begin to get into a
brawl. They punch and kick each other until Myung breaks
it up by taking Isamu's punch. Myung kneels down crying
in the rain. She reveals to them that Sharon's AI is
incomplete and that she supplies the emotions to Sharon's
AI. Isamu angrily takes off on his bike. Lucy yells to
Myung that Isamu knew all along that Sharon's singing was
her singing. Guld offers to help Myung up but Myung
walks away in the rain.
Myung goes back to the concert hall. She finds Marge
watching videos of Sharon. He informs her that they will
leave for earth to perform a concert in honor of the
anniversary of the UN Spacy-Zentraedi Armistice
Ceremony. As Yang sits in his room, his computer goes
berserk flashing the name ISAMU. Isamu tries to use the
flight simulator but ends up crashing. He dwells over some
insults that Guld used on him. Lucy watches him in a
saddened state.
Myung arrives at the airport to find that Kate and Morgan
brought Guld to see her. Isamu is no where to be found. As
Kate and Morgan leave them alone, Myung and Guld have
some words with each other. Guld tells Myung how much
he loves her. Myung is flattered but says that she has to go.
Before she leaves, Guld gives her an audio cassette. As she
sits in her seat she listens to it. the song that she sang in her
younger days is heard. Guld watches the aircraft
take off towards earth. Isamu resumes some flight tests with
the YF-19. After the test is complete, Lucy comes up to him
with some bad news.
Isamu walks into Millard's office growling about the news
that the project is canceled. Yang also angry, demands an
explanation. Guld walks in demanding an explanation as
well. Millard explains to them about the new unmanned, AI
controlled Ghost X-9 aircraft. It will be unveiled at the UN
Spacy-Zentraedi Armistice Ceremony on earth. Isamu,
Yang, and Guld angrily disapprove.
Sharon Apple and her staff arrive on earth and are greeted
by a mob of fans. Myung, Mr. Raymond, and Marge head
towards Macross (SDF-1) in a helicopter. Marge tells them
that this concert promises to be the true debut of Sharon.
Isamu breaks into the hanger of the YF-19. As he flashes
the light at the cockpit, Yang is set to go. A startled Isamu
tells Yang to get out. He already knows that Isamu wanted
to hijack the YF-19 to go to earth to screw up the unveiling
of the Ghost X-9. Yang convinces Isamu to take him to
earth. They prepare to take off. An explosion occurs in the
hanger door and the YF-19 takes off towards space. Guld
awakes already predicting that Isamu is responsible for this.
As the YF-19 leaves Eden, a barrage of missiles are
launched at them. Yang prepares the countdown for the fold
system to engage. They fold away evading the missiles.
Millard sends Guld in the YF-21 to chase them.
On earth, Mr. Raymond is concerned about how UN Spacy
knew about Sharon's incomplete AI. The officers thank
Marge for the use of "the microchip" in the Ghost X-9.
Raymond demands an explanation in his private office.
Marge reveals to him that he installed a bio-neural microchip
into Sharon's AI to make it complete. Raymond angrily tells
him about the dangerous effects it could have
psychologically. He calls the main control room to have the
chip pulled out. Marge pulls a gun out and shoots Raymond
in the head killing him. Marge says to his corpse nothing can
stop what is going to happen. Everyone will hear nothing
but Sharon. A horrified Myung overhears this and runs
away as Marge spots her.
The ceremonies begin on Macross City. Myung runs into
the main control room. As she enters, the door locks itself.
Suddenly, electrical cords tie her up into a crucifixion
position. Unable to free herself, she spots an eerie figure
appear. Sharon begins to speak to a bewildered Myung.
Myung does not understand why Sharon is able to speak on
her own. Sharon tells Myung that her deepest thoughts and
emotions are what created all aspects of Sharon's emotions.
Myung cannot believe what she is hearing. Sharon tells
Myung how much she loves Guld and how much more she
loves ISAMU. As the concert begins, the YF-19 and YF-21
continue to race towards earth.
Isamu and Yang in the YF-19, defold outside earth's orbit.
Yang calculates the probability of sneaking into earth with
the YF-19's stealth capability. As they continue to descend
towards earth, the YF-21 defolds. Guld says to himself,
"It's time to end this, Isamu."
Sharon Apple's Concert continues in Macross City.
Suddenly, the Macross's systems begin to blackout. The
Planetary Auto Defense begin operating at Defcon 5. While
this is happening, Yang tells Isamu that they've been
detected. Yang formulates a counter measure plan to blow
up some of the satellites in orbit and then to sneak into earth
camoflagued among the fragments with the flight systems
turned off. Isamu proceeds with the plan.
Myung, still tied up inside Macross asks Sharon why she's
doing all of this. Sharon replies, "I want Isamu. I have no
need of you anymore." As she disappears, the cords begin
to squeeze Myung to death. Meanwhile, the satellites begin
to fire towards the YF-19. While this is happening, the
Ghost X-9 takes off from the launch bay. Myuung
continues to struggle to free herself. As the cords stop
squeezing, Myung rips part of her uniform off to escape.
The YF-19 safely makes it through the satellites' barrage.
As Isamu reactivates the flight systems, a barrage of gunfire
flashes at him. The YF-21 comes out of hiding from a
fragament. Guld says to Isamu, "I'd expected you to end up
with the rest of the trash."
Guld continues to fire at Isamu as they both descend
towards earth. As they continue their fight, Myung tries to
escape from the room that she's trapped in. As their
incredible dog fight begins, they argue over past incidents
of buying each other lunch. The two skilled pilots are
evenly matched as they fly into Macross City firing bullets,
missiles, and changing battle modes trying to win the dog
fight. At one point guld says to Isamu,"You wrecked what
was important to me." (As he says this, he flashes back to a
glimpse of Ismau and an abused Myung.) Ismau avoids
gunfire from Guld and flies out of Macross City. Guld
pursues and tries to get a missile lock on him. Guld locks
on and fires, screaming. Then he flashes back once again
and sees the entire incident. Isamu was consoling Myung,
then Guld walks in and punches Isamu out. He then rips
Myung's clothes off. As he stands over her, he loks in the
mirror and screams. After the flashback ended, Guld
screams as the missiles explode, seemingly destroying the
YF-19.
Guld saddened, realizes that it was himself who hurt Myung
seven years ago. He blocked out the memories using his
Beta-endorphin treatment. Suddenly, the YF-19 appears out
of the clouds. Guld calmly says, "You're alive." Ismau
replies, "Was there ever any doubt? I just cut my engines
and rode with the wind. I'll call it my patented Pterosaurs
Swoop." Guld tries the manuever out himself. Guld
apologizes to Ismau for misjudging him. He firgures out
that Isamu and Myung pretended that Guld didn't do it
because they felt sorry for him. As they continue to
converse and laugh about old times, Sharon's music is
heard. Then a beam weapon blast fires between the YF-19
and the YF-21. Then the Ghost X-9 quickly flies on to the
scene.
Myung finds her way out of the room and asks for help
from some security guards. They look over at her and cock
their maching guns. Myung runs into an elevator realizing
that they're under Sharon's control. The two men follow
and fire. Myung avoids the shots and manages to push them
out of the elevator.
The Ghost X-9 continues to fire at Ismau and Guld. Yang
finds out that Sharon has taken over the Macross's Main
Computer as well as the Ghost X-9. Sharon begins to speak
to Isamu. She says that she has cast off Myung. An enraged
Isamu fires at the Ghost X-9 and yells, "What have you done
with Myung!?" Guld tells Isamu that he will deal with the
Ghost X-9, and tells Ismau to go rescue Myung. After arguing
not to go, Isamu reluctantly takes off toward Macross.
The Macross is lifted off the ground. As it raises above the
earth's surface, Marje jumps off the bridge of Macross
committing suicide. Myung makes her way into the room
with the Black Box. Sharon begins to speak to Myung
telling her that she has absorbed her innermost feelings, the
feelings that have been hidden. Isamu approaches Macross
and sees that the crew is under Sharon's control. Yang tells
Isamu that they have to blow up the Macross's Intelligence
Net to release her control of the Macross. Sharon continues
to tell Myung that she wants Isamu. She then shows Isamu
on the view screen. Myung yells, "Isamu! Get out, it's a
trap!" Suddenly, the Macross's guns fire at Isamu. Ismau
avoids the shots and escapes. Yang tries to develop a virus
to disrupt Sharon. Myung tells Sharon to stop and then fires
the machine gun at the Black Box. But her effort is useless.
Myung crouches down and cries, "why is this happening?"
Sharon appears besides her and tells her that she wishes to
give Ismau the emotions that he desires.
Guld struggles to battle the Ghost X-9. Guld then converses
with Isamu and tells him that he is sorry for what happened
in the past. He then says goodbye. Myung, hearing the
conversation, gasps. Ismau yells, "Guld!!!" The Ghost X-9 fires
at Guld, Guld deflects some of the shots with the
Pin-point-Barriers but is then severly damaged. Guld cuts
off the Limit-Control System and collides head on with the
Ghost sacrificing himself. Myung falls to the floor crying.
An enraged Isamu heads towards Macross, flying through
gunfire. Yang tells Isamu that he's almost completed the
virus. Suddenly, Sharon appears next to Yang. Yang tries
to resist by pulling out a gun but falls under her control. He
points the gun at Isamu. Isamu ejects Yang simulatenously
as Yang fires. Ismau, unhurt tosses his helmet away and
yells, "Shut up! I don't want to hear your creeping
singing!" Sharon appears in front of Isamua nd sings to
him. isamu tries hard to resist but falls under her control.
The YF-19 slowly flies towards the earth.
As Isamu is asleep at the cockpit, Myung begins to sing
"Voices." Just as the YF-19 is about to crash, Isamu
awakes and pulls up. He flies towards Macross through all
of the gunfire. He transforms into Battroid mode and
crashes into the core of the Macross's Intelligence Net. The
explosion overloads the Black Box causing it to explode.
Myung gets up and looks up at the sky to see Isamu flying
overhead. Isamu looks down at her smiling, Myung smiles
back with joy.
