Rating: G Prince Endymion sighed wearily. He had just returned from a long conference with his father along with the Moon Kingdom Royalty in the audience chamber and he was beat. The Moon people had included Queen Serenity, her daughter, Princess Serenity and a black talking Lunar cat. Endymion had thought that the younger Serenity had looked very much like her mother. Same hairstyle of odangos, same long, white dress, same facial expressions. When he had first seen that hairstyle, he had nearly busted out laughing. It was so ridiculous! Only his father's poke in his ribs had saved him from seriously insulting the visiting royalty by laughing at them. The Princess had been very stiff and formal, very much unlike the rumors he had heard about her being fun-loving and carefree, always giving her guards heart-attacks by sneaking away to have fun. But then, he reasoned, rumors are rarely accurate. Anyway, Endymion had thought that Princess Serenity was an awful bore. He sighed again. Maybe a walk in the famous Gardens of Earth would do him good. He had always went there when he was frustrated or needed somewhere to think things out, and when he left the Gardens, he always felt much better. This time, however, he doubt very much it would help. The Gardens of Earth are famous for its beauty and serenity. With all kinds of flowers that could be found in every planet in the Solar System, and a few that could only be found on Earth and a small, natural waterfall at one corner which led to a crystal, clear lake, it was no wonder that a famous philosopher had once said, "You have never visited Earth if you have not visited the Gardens of Earth." As Endymion walked down the path that would eventually led to the waterfall, he began to think about what his father had said to him before they had retired to their chambers and the cause of his troubles. "You are nearly nineteen now, and it is time for you to seriously consider marriage. With the quick advance of the Dark Kingdom, I know this is definitely not the time to think about marriage, but what we need now is a strong alliance with the Moon Kingdom. This can be achieved by your union with the Moon Princess. I have spoken to Queen Serenity about it and she has agreed to give her daughter's hand in marriage to you if the Princess herself agrees. I hope, that for the good of the Golden Kingdom, you will seriously consider this proposal." His train of thoughts were interrupted when he heard tinkling sounds of laughter and splashing just up ahead. At the waterfall he was heading. With a start, he realized that he had unconsciously reached his destination without his knowing. Listening hard, he thought he could distinguish two voices. he wondered, as he looked at the full moon which hung high on the night sky. Not wanting to alert whoever it was up ahead, Endymion crept forward silently. In the little glade where the waterfall and lake was situated stood the Princess Serenity and the talking Lunar cat, Luna, with all traces of their former stiffness and stuffiness he had viewed at the audience chamber just now all gone. In their place now stood a very relaxed and beautiful lady (with all the fun-loving personality the rumors Prince Endymion heard proclaimed) splashing water on her black cat. Both were drenched to the skin. Apparently, the Princess had decided to sneak out to the famous Gardens of Earth which she had heard so much about to have a look, and had been caught by her mother's advisor. She, then managed to persuade Luna to come with her to have a break in the Gardens. Upon arriving, the Princess went wild with delight with all the different kinds of flowers, especially with the red roses which only grew on Earth. She had plucked one and stuck it into her hair which looked very becoming on her. They had then came across the lake, and the mischievous Princess couldn't resist the temptation. Seeing nobody about, she had taken off her slippers and gone paddling despite Luna's objections. After she had drenched herself to the skin, the Princess had turned to her guardian and began to splash water on her. When Luna had found herself wet, she discarded her usual dignity and formality as Advisor to the Queen and had returned the insult with interest. "I hate this hairstyle! Why did Mother have to insist that I wear it? Why couldn't I cut it short like Mercury or Uranus?" Princess Serenity complained. "You know you have to wear that hairstyle even if you hate it. Every Moon Kingdom heir has to wear it. It is protocol. Stop grumbling. Your mother doesn't like it either, but you don't see her grumbling about it," Luna lectured. "I know," Princess Serenity sighed, "But it is so ridiculous and heavy! I bet you a can of tuna that Prince Endymion thought that we looked extremely silly." The hidden Prince Endymion blushed. "And Mother says I may have to marry him! Oh, why must I marry someone I have only just met, Luna?" Luna sighed, "Royalty cannot chose their life-partners. You know that very well, Serenity." "I know, but.. it's just that...Oh, I give up! Anyway, I have enough of this stupid hairstyle! Just for tonight, I will not wear it!" the Princess suddenly declared. Luna grasped, "What will your mother say?!" "Oh bother, she is not here, nobody's here. No one will know unless you tell. Promise you won't tell? It is just tonight. Please?" the Princess wheedled. Luna sighed resignedly and gave a nod. Princess Serenity happily undid her weird hairdo. Her long, golden hair sparkled and cascaded down her back gracefully. It was like pure silk and seemed to have a life of its own. Ballads have been composed about Princess Serenity's golden hair and they have been sung out of proportion. It was said that no one had hair like hers in the entire Solar System. Prince Endymion had not believed it then, but he was stuck speechless now. The reflection of the moonlight on her hair seemed to form a halo over her head. She looked like an angel. An angel worthy of her title, the Moon Princess. For the first time in his entire life, the mighty Prince Endymion of Earth who commanded immerse power, fell deeply in love with the lovely vision in front of him. He took a step forward unconsciously and a branch snapped. As if synchronize, both Serenity and Luna whipped their heads towards his direction. Somebody was behind those branches! "I'm...I'm so sorry! I...I didn't mean to eavesdrop! I was just walking and heard some noises, so I came to have a look. I'm really very sorry if I have interrupted anything!" Endymion began to stammer out his apologies. The observant Luna, however, noted that he was staring at the Princess all the time. Suddenly, Serenity let out a delicate sneeze and Luna's head swung back towards the Princess. "There! I told you not to go paddling, but would you listen? No! I told you you would catch a cold, but would you believe me? No, of course not!" Luna began scolding the now shivering Princess. "We have to get you back to the palace immediately! What will the Queen say??" "Please, no `I told you so!' Luna. I know it was all my fault, but the water looked so tempting! I will be all right. Please, please don't tell Mother about this. I swear I will be all right by the morning. I promise I will not do this again. Just, please don't tell Mother about this. Please?" she sneezed again as Luna shook her head in disgust. Endymion quickly wrapped his coat around Serenity and gently steered her towards the Palace as she gave him a look of gratitude. At the door of Serenity's chamber, they stopped and faced each other. Endymion and Serenity grazed into each other's eyes, one pair a deep blue, while the other an azure blue. Luna discreetly left to let them have a moment alone together. She had realized that the Prince had fallen deeply in love with the Princess and Princess was not a long way off, and she meant to report this interesting development to the Queen as soon as possible. "Thank you, Prince Endymion. What can I do to repay your kindness?" Serenity asked softly. "My pleasure, Princess," Endymion replied. He raised her hand and kissed it in a proper fashion, all the while staring into her azure eyes, eyes that could drown a man. "If you really want to repay my kindness, however, you would allow me to escort you to the palace ball tomorrow evening. That and the pleasure of your company would be my payment. Please say yes," Endymion implored. "I would love to. Thank you again for your help." Serenity curtsied gracefully and glided into her chamber. Endymion walked slowly towards his room, thinking of his lovely Princess and humming softly (the Star Locket Melody, perhaps?). Tomorrow, he would get to see his lovely Serenity again. Tomorrow, he will ask if she loves him. Tomorrow he will tell his Princess of his love for her. Tomorrow, he would ask for her hand. He would not have to marry someone he did not love. Yes, tomorrow will a wonderful day.......... The End....... Well, what do you think?? Hope you like it.
