Bartholomew Portugues (17th century)
Buccaneer who operated from Jamaica in the seventeenth century. According
to Esquemeling he took his last name from his country of birth. He
attacked several Spanish vessels and at one time he and his ship were
captured in the harbour of Campeche. He managed to escape, though, and
later returned to Campeche to retake the ship he had lost there. In the
book The Buccaneers of America he is mentioned
on pages 49 to 52.
