    THE RACE
    Boarding
Once our team is called by the gate keepers...lineup on the dock and wait turn to board
    Quickly select life jackets
Select paddles: Check for secure handle, no cracks
Check boat for 2 bailers, leaks
Board quickly, stay quiet, only drummer/steerer speaks on the boat
Drummer: check drum and seat secured firmly
Steerer: check rope "oar" lock, oar blade
    On water
Paddlers, focus your attention on our drummer and steerer
    concentrate on our race strategy
    Racing
Steerer begins positioning boat for start
Race official request adjustments by several teams looking for an alignment
With steeerer's signal, durmmer requests all paddlers to get into starting position
steerer may ask several back row paddlers to adjust position w/specific instructions...but all must stay ready to start at the horn.
"Ready please" is the starter's verbal cue that starting horn will soon follow
The HORN signifies the start and our team's 1st stroke
Steerer and Drummer will coordinate direction and pace
We race in narrow lanes...focusing in our drummer will drown out other drummers.
Paddle until told to stop...don't look at other boats, this disrupts your timing

eam stretch, line up team, practice strokes, review strategy, drummer/steerer discussion.
