A "Circles of Time" story. Home page at http://www.geocities.com/tokyo/9897/ct.htm By Yohann DeSabrais a.k.a. Technuma Saturn THE CODEX OF UNITY, A COMPREHENSIVE TRANSLATION Foreword by Princess Mercury of Crystal Tokyo Greetings. It has been nearly a hundred years since an archeological expedition in the virgin jungles of central africa has unearthed the first few pages of an ancient book whose importance in history we are merely beginning to understand. (The word "ancient" does little justice to the true age of the codex, as its origin is now suspected to predate the birth of our solar system itself) As the decades went by, more and more pages of similar writing material and sigils were found, each new fragile sheet carefully encased in protective synthetic diamond, photographed for historical reference and scientific work until they made their way into the safety of the relic storage facilities of Crystal Tokyo university. Many linguists have tried to decipher the mysterious glyphs written on these pages, all of them failing miserably as any translator who attempted this daunting task will tell you after a few stiff drinks. The best linguists and most powerful computers on earth (including my own) have all met an equal degree of insuccess, and the ancient book held its secret that much longer. I do believe, however, that I have found an answer, one so unexpected that few translators would ever even consider it. After working for twelve hours straight on the problem and still coming short of an answer, I came to fall asleep on my desk amidst my dictionnaries of dead languages, half-written sheets of paper and photocopies of the book pages. The answer came to me in a dream so strange, so deep in symbolism and rich of abstract metaphysical concepts that I can barely remember anything at all from it. Only one thing remains fresh to my memory, still vibrant in its clarity to this very day: The Codex of Unity could only be read by one whose mind and soul are aligned with its inherent knowledge and wisdom. I thus embarked on a whole new approach to my work, putting aside books and tomes to instead embrace spirituality and enlightment, no small task for one whose life has been dedicated to the pursuits of logic and reason. I will spare you the details of my long road and instead go directly to the end result: I have completed a comprehensive translation of the Codex of Unity. The first thought which occurs to me is that such a difficult encryption was really a blessing to humanity, as the contents would have stirred endless controversy, conflict and possibly could start "holy" wars. With every chapter I read, each word I wrote down I discovered new ideas and concepts that the civilization of the previous aeon would have believed to be heresy. I have done my best to remain faithful to the spirit of the original text, if not its every word and phrasing, as the ideas behind the words were so much powerful than its mere reflecting upon cracked scrolls. The number of problems encountered along the way included the occurance of glyphs whose meanings have no equivalents to modern english, variants upon the same characters and words whose exact meaning has been lost over time to mention only a few. I will include brief comments and notes along the way in order to clarify my interpretations throughout this remarkable book, which is essential as it is my belief that no two people will receive quite exactly the same experience from reading the Codex. The library of Tokyo will keep in its archives the entire records of my work and keep them open for consultation, as the book you are currently holding only has so many pages to print on; the final translation alone made it to this work, and even then it could be debated for ages about wether or not this is an objective or subjective interpretation. As a final note, it is not known wether or not pages are still missing from the many books which make up the codex (although I have a strong suspicion that it is the case) and quite possibly entire sections of the original work might be missing. This being said, you now hold in your hands the result of seventeen years of the most demanding work that I have ever had the pleasure of completing. I would like to dedicate it to the light of my life, my reason to live, my one true love. My dearest daughter. Princess Mercury of Crystal Tokyo
