a summary of my activities in september 1999 write me!
8/30 - 9/3 Classes started on August 30th. I am taking Music Theory, Music Education, Piano, Voice, Speech, and Psychology, and of course, Singing Hoosiers! Classes seem OK thus far. My Music Ed. teacher broke us into groups today and kicked me out of mine for being a Scorpio! (He's a little odd, but I like him...) Also, my Speech teacher wants to be called Kate, which is a little weird for me. My Piano homework is the craziest though. "I want you to have all the major and minor sceles, both hands, two octaves, by Thursday." [screaming] My first voice lesson will be next week, with Ms. Patricia Havranek. My first gig with Singing Hoosiers is this weekend, singing the national anthem and fight song at a soccer tourney!
9/3 Happy Birthday Wayne! Also, today was my first gig! To see how we did, check out this site and consider watching the game on RealPlayer! (we sing at about 2:30 on the recording) We also sing again Sunday! I also found out I get to come home for Fall Show! I can't wait!
9/5 Student government haunts me still. I'm my floor's new Vice-Governor!
9/6 Off for Labor Day? Yeah, right! Except for of course Speech, which "Kate" cancelled since she didn't want to come back from her three-day weekend. =)
9/8 My Music Ed class observed an elementary school class today! How cute! Did you know they're teaching kindergarteners solfege hand signs these days?!?!?! I didn't even see those until 6th grade!
9/9 I finished all my homework early just to watch the MTV Music Awards... and it was sooooooo not worth it. Why didn't I just sleep? =) Chris Rock.. [two thumbs way down]
9/10 Hoosiers has "Professional Weekend" this weekend. Seems like a little "Hell Week"end that teaches music and choreography etc. for the whole semester. We went from 3:30 to 10 tonight. It's really a lot of fun and the people are so nice! We had a sort of open mic night tonight, and I sang I Can't Make You Love Me again... this time for everyone. All went well!
9/11 Professional Weekend wrapped up this morning a little before noon. After a nice lunch with Tim, I met and practiced with my new pianist, Jonathan. Then a nice long nap =) and dinner with Tim, Carrie, and her friend Kim. (Does anyone else find that list of names funny? Tim, Terri, Kim, and Carrie?) Then a night of psychology, and possibly church in the morning? We'll see! =)
9/12 Happy Birthday Thomas! Today has been yet another major homework day... I have assignments due tomorrow in Psychology, Music Education, and Speech, as well as my first two tests (Psych and Music Theory) on Friday! But don't worry (Mom and Dad) I'm studying hard and everything is getting done!
9/13 This has been a fairly uneventful day thus far, but I want to ask for everyone to pray for my roommate Sarah. I don't know all the details, and I really don't think I would want to post them here anyway, but please pray the Sarah makes the best possible decision(s) over the next few days and weeks. Thanks everyone.
9/14 Well, this all technically happened on the 13th, but in order to reduce confusion, I'm putting in on the 14th. Basically, to make a long and complicated story less long and complicated, my roommate, Sarah, is moving out today (the 14th) to go home. Her younger brother is in poor health and will be needing a kidney in the relatively immediate future. She may even end up being the donor. Basically, she doesn't need/want to be two hours away from home right now, and feels that she wouldn't be able to focus on schoolwork sufficiently right now anyway. So, I guess the good news is that I get a room to myself, at least for the time being. Actually, I'm not entirely sure what that means to me, but I'll be sure to keep everyone aware of any address or phone number changes, should they occur. But, on a less self-centered note, let's all continue to keep Sarah and her brother (Zack/Zach) in our thoughts and prayers. Hopefully, Sarah will be able to keep me updated as time passes, and I'll keep this site up to date accordingly.
9/15 Well now, let's see. I didn't really write anything about yesterday, other than Sarah moving out. So, other than that, I didn't really do too much, just a couple of things come to mind. I went to TIS Books and bought a new IU shirt because I thought I should go home this weekend with some kind of IU-wear. And the other thing is that after Hoosiers practice, Dr. S (I have trouble spelling his name) called an impromptu solo audition for the Hoagy concerts. The solo is really a duet that he wants sung. (I am so grateful for PESH jazz choirs after experiences like this.) So he just taught us about 8 measures of the song (4 male, 4 female) and put us in random pairs to sing. I think I did pretty well. He says he's going to do a call-back sometime soon. So, that was yesterday. Today was uneventful also, mostly just studying/stressing about my piano quiz tomoorw and the Psychology and Theory tests on Friday. Piano is my biggest concern right now... I'm really not catching on very fast to the idea of "let's use both hands at once." ugh. But the Psych and T151 tests should be OK, I just need to review the material tomorrow night. I also have to write an outline for my speech of evaluation about RENT over the weekend, to turn in on Monday. Hopefully I can get this done during my lag time in the airport(s). Anyway, back to studying!
9/20 I HAVE THE WORLD'S SLOWEST COMPUTER! I just spent the last 15 minutes, literally, 15 minutes, getting it to bring up Netscape! uhmuhguh! Anyway... the other bad computer news is that I have a virus that prevents me from printing anything I've written on this computer in the public lab's printer. How fun. Ah, well... Now I'm definitely buying a comp at Christmas. This is so frustrating. Anyway, I'm really sick of this, so I'm stopping here.
9/21 Well, things look like they may pan out ok with the computer after all, but I won't go into detail here. On non-related subject matter, I very much enjoyed my trip home for the weekend. To all the people in the show: I was very impressed, be proud. Other than that, not TOO much going on. Tim and I bought tickets today to see Ben Folds Five on October 19th. I'm also getting to see the following for free, because I'm ushering: Ani DiFranco, Chicago, Spirit of the Dance, Victor Borge, and RENT (thrice). I'm soooo excited! The only other two pieces of news I can think of is that Dr. S made a callbacks list for the duet I tried out for, and it had no freshmen on it. =( And I am the Student Of The Week in Music Education this week. =)
9/22 Well, I've gotten back my tests now. I got 111 out of a possible 120 on my first theory test. and 33.5 out of a possible 37 in psych. Not as good in Psych as I had hoped. =( I get the grade from my piano quiz tomorrow. Today's news: got two things in the mail today - address labels and 6 new CD's (Beck, NSYNC, BSB, DMB, Black Sabbath, and Sheryl Crow). Tim and I also went to see the penultimate dress rehearsal for this season's first opera, Vanessa. FREE OF CHARGE! NEAT! Anyway, Mom and Dad, we never bought season tickets, so I think I'm going to tomorrow! just fyi. 50 bucks for 6 operas... not bad, eh? I'm all about live shows these days... craziness. Anyway... also took a fabulous nap today... it was great. That's about it!
9/24 Happy Birthday Emily! (I don't think she checks the site, but hey!) In Indiana news, I saw yet another rehearsal of Vanessa last night. We watched it all the way through with the cast we don't have tickets for. Today, I had a pop quiz in Theory, no biggie... and a scheduled quiz in Speech. Also no biggie. Things are going fine, No major plans this weekend except homework and that type of thing... And hey, if you're getting to this site today, Thomas, check my message board, or your email...
9/26 Happy Birthday Justin Williams! (yet another person that will probably never see his birthday greeting) Well, the weekend has been nice and of course greatly appreciated. It's too soon to go back to class tomorrow. I want to sleep. =( But anyway... spent the weekend dividing my time between things good college students do and things stereotypical college students do. =) haha. (Mom and Dad, have I frightened you yet? Wayne? Are you still breathing? hahaha) But all is well, and I can't have been too wild, seeing as I made it out to church this morning. I got a ride this time, but my ride is going to be out of town for an extended while, so I may end up walking. It's not that far. The perk is that when I'm a parent, trying to convince my college student to attend church, I can say "Well when I was your age..." hahaha. Must run. I have procrastinated a little and have some Psych to catch up on. Much love to all, per usual! [smooch, smooch]
9/27 Not much to report. Pretty uneventful day. I figured out how to work my long distance though! So, that's nice. Other than that, nothing too exciting in any of my classes. Don't get me wrong, I still love them all, just nothing to report. Perhaps more tomorrow!
9/28 Well, still not much to report really... everything's going great... I just turned in a whole set of assignments in Music Education. I had to define music. DEFINE MUSIC! yeah, right! Anyway... not much else going on really... all is well! love to all!
9/29HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY AND PAPAW!!!! Once again, not too much to say thus far. I need to do a lot of shopping today. I may catch a bus out to the mall and maybe drag Timmy with me... I need a haircut and pantyhose and envelopes and all kinds of stuff.... tomorrow is our rehearsal in Indy, followed by a series of concerts. So, there you have it... and mommy and daddy, just so you know, I bought a stapler and a three-hole punch yesterday, so don't worry about me... love you!
