11/2 Writing this afternoon from home in Plano, where I just finished celebrating the birthday of one Mr. Patrick Burt. Today was birthday number 24. We had a mini-celebration during Sunday School... donuts and coffee, group card, a few balloons, etc. And then we went out to eat at Cheddar's afterwards. Tonight is the normal Bible Studay stuff, etc. As far as what's going on in life... I'm 2 weeks into my secondary student teaching. All has been well so far. Some days are rockier than others... and sometimes it sinks in that I'm basically working upwards of 45 hours a week for no money... but overall, it's been fun. The kids are cool, Brookins is cool, etc. The bad time of the week was yesterday at C&E... Friday night I closed with Summer (new) and we had to do the big Holiday changeover, which is HUGE. We did as much as we could in 4.5 hours, but didn't finish. I hadn't worked in over a week, so I was a little confused about where to find the necessary supplies and such. Summer's new so she wasn't a HUGE help... she's at that stage where she does what you instruct her to do... just not well. So I had to kind of follow her around and redo things. Anyway, at 9:30 I just said you know what, I'm out of here. Well, the curtain falls, time passes, and Saturday morning rolls around. Stefani and Robyn and Adrienne start finishing up the table change, when what to their wondering eyes should appear but Cathy Hughen, C&E Regional Manager. As in, the Head Honcho in Charge of the entire east coast, midwest... half the US stores. She was unhappy at best. So, of course, when I got to work at 1pm on Saturday, Stefani wasn't speaking to me (because she got reamed I'm sure), Adrienne was treating me like I'm roughly 5 years old (because I apparently don't understand the responsibility the goes with having a job), and Robyn (who is also new) was just kind of shell shocked by having to unexpectedly meet Cathy Hughen. So... I'm trying to decide what to do. I left Stefani two voice mails Friday night to the effect of "I don't think we're going to finish this... I don't know what else to do" and also left her a note on the counter saying "we did our best but didn't finish", and yet when I got to work the general vibe was that obviously I didn't do ANYTHING the night before. So... I've apologized repeatedly but to no avail... I'm trying to decide whether a part time job is at all doable during student teaching. Because I get frustrated when I'm only working once a week and I come in and it takes me a little while to get my bearings, and no one's real patient (understandably, I guess) during holiday season. Plus, everytime I work, it's in ADDITION to the 45 or so hours of work I've already put in for free that week. [sigh] Anyone with advice on what to do, just let me know. I don't really want to quit... but I also don't want to get reamed if I'm feeling a little out of retail mode. [shrug] Anyway, right now I'm not feeling real great, so I'm going to sign off to lie down for a bit.
11/20 Well tonight I'm writing from home after a lovely 14 hour day at PSHS. Tonight was the Music Corporation Fall Show.... a first ever event. It went really really well, I thought. Tomorrow I have a lot to do... delivering stools back to Jasper, the baffle back to PESH, etc. And tomorrow night is the JS1 concert in Denton. I need to clean out my car because I'm giving Daniel Westphal a ride to and from the show. The last few weeks have been crazy busy. Preparing for the show tonight, as well as madrigal which is in two weeks, and winterfest which is the week after that. Then it's graduation, etc. Yesterday was my birthday, I am now 22. The day was lovely... Brookins and the kids got me a huge balloon and cake. Sara dropped by partway through the day and brought me a dozen roses. After a night of rehearsal with Music Corps, I went out with Clint, Dani, Pat, and Sara to Friday's. We had a very very good time. heh. I got Cranium as a gift from the happy unmarried couple, and Buffy Season Two from the happy married couple. Yay! But right now, I am extremely tired, so I'm going to sign off.
