a summary of my activities in november 2001 write me!
11/2 I guess it is November, isn't it? I should update. The site has fallen a bit to the wayside in past months, just because, hey, I don't really have a lot of time to spend on it... so my apologies. But, today I have a little time in between Woodwinds and Pop Music to just say a few words. Life, overall, is good. I have a lot going on... but life is good. I'm on the road a lot, and I'm not home all that much... yesterday, for instance, I had a Jazz Singers gig, which was nice because it got me excused from class for the day (woo-hoo!) but it was in Dallas, so it took me away for most of the day too. This particular gig was at Booker T. Washington High, the arts magnet in Dallas. It went ok... we didn't have a whole lot of space where they had us performing, but it was still alright. Crazy kids were kind of rude though, at times... not most of them, but just like, one or two right up at the front, who would be like... I don't know... talking, laying down and whatnot... I was just kind of like, "why sit at the front?" Because most of the other kids were pretty cool and appreciative, except for these couple of bozos at the front. It was just sort of annoying. But we still sang well, and got out of there around 2:15 or 2:30. I had planned on going in to C&E to pick up an extra couple of hours helping move our off-site storage stuff from one facility to the other... but I got a call saying they didn't really need the help, so don't worry about it. So, I figured, hey, might as well take 75 up to Plano while I'm here and just see what's up. I stopped by the East Side... did the normal thing of leaving notes on the cars of people I knew, and visited the coffeeshop and Napoli's. Saw Clint for a few minutes and talked to Keri at the coffeeshop for a while. I had seen Theresa the night before (Wednesday... there wasn't Chancel practice... Halloween) so now I feel almost caught up on Plano events! Imagine that! So then I stopped by the house, picked up the mail, watched a little bad tv (Maury Povich, mmmm) and saw my brother for a minute or two also. Then I headed home... had plenty of time so I took Mom's way... Custer to 380 to Loop 288. I think that, considering it was rush hour at that time, it was a good route, because 190 and 35 would've both been pretty clogged... but during regular, moderate-traffic hours, I'd probably stick with good old 190 and 35. Mom's route is probably comparable to the Olde Route... Legacy to 121 to 35. But that route is a healthy 15 minutes longer than 190/35. But anyway, I got home in plenty of time to set the VCR to record Friends and then run out to Sara's choir concert. This was another one of those great concerts Rosemary's been putting together with local public schools. Last night is was the ACap choir from Rowlett HS and the Orff Ensemble from Kimball Elementary in Garland ISD. Oh my gosh, these Kimball kids were just about the cutest things ever. Almost had me wanting to teach elementary school.... and kids, that's a hard thing to make me want to do. I would say their little ensemble was about 20 kids, mixed grades... I don't know what grades Garland ISD puts in Elementary, but I'd say these were 2nd - 5th or 6th graders. But like, pretty well balanced as far as grades... Maybe even 5 kids from each of 4 grades or something? But these kids were great. They sang a song with the other two choirs on the old standard "how can I keep from singing?" text... an Acapella song... and they were totally on. Real blended, real supported, good sound. I was like wow. And then, these crazy kids got to do a couple of things on their own and they were busting out on Orff instruments, major. And I'm not talking about the usual thing of having all the rest of the kids still singing while the one or two kids that can handle it play the Orff Instruments. I'm talking about each and every one of those 20 kids with a pair of mallets in their hands, playing a song together. Outstanding. Yes, I was quite impressed. So, after the concert, we headed home, and not much else happened for the night. Today, I've already had Woodwinds and I'm going to head on to Pop Music here in about 15 minutes. After that, home, take a shower, do a little makeup, make a little lunch (get down tonight)... working tonight at C&E from 1-6, after which I'll run by the house, change clothes... hopefully find something black and/or gold... and run by the PESH game. I haven't had a chance to see the halftime show this year, so I think I'll take the opportunity tonight. After that, I don't know if I'm going to stay in Plano or go back to Denton. If I thought Clint would change my oil, I'd stay in Plano, but being as he has the SAT's in the morning and I have to work at 2, and he's got homecoming preparations to take care of and whatnot... I'm betting he won't have a chance. So... I don't know what I'll do. Eh. Really, that's about all the news I've got... So I'll go ahead and sign off of this and let you catch your breath. I should write a Rambler today.... I'm obviously in the right mood for it. We'll see. Later...
FUTURE PLANS
