a summary of my activities in november 2000 write me!
11/1 I'm actually writing on 10/31, but I thought I'd go ahead and do the necessary updating to the site... Things are good. Life is busy, and will continue to be until Christmas, I'm sure, but it's a good kind of busy. It's a "keeping me on task" kind of busy. We had Grand Chorus practice at FUMC Denton tonight, getting ready for our concert (and final activity of the semester woo-hoo!) on Sunday. That went relatively well, I thought. Tomorrow (the actual 1st) I have conducting and a theory midterm, and then that's all until Jazz Singers. Piano test was this week, so I don't have to go again until next week. And Aural Skilz is cancelled for the week because of some conference. So then I'll have choir (I think... unless he cancells it... I heard a rumor he might) and then voice. After that Pat is hitching a ride with me to Dallas... Sara has a choir concert at a church at Preston and NW Hwy at 5:30. And while I can't go to the concert myself, Pat can! woo-hoo! So then I'll have the basic Wednesday night schedule. That's basically all of tomorrow night's plans... Like I said, things are good here.... just sort of plugging through stuff. A quick reminder to all those who might be interested... I have choir concerts coming up!!! So be aware, and clear your calendars for November 5th, 14th, and 17th. Especially the 17th, because I have two solos! small, yes.... but solos nonetheless. Ah, but that's all I'm taking time for, just now.
11/6 Well, life is good... Grand Chorus is over for the semester, thank the good lord. We had our concert on Sunday, and it went moderately well, but I wasn't too broken up about it being over. ha. I simply resent classes for which I get no credit. Speaking of classes and credit, I have now registered for next semester's classes. They include: College Algebra (3 hrs), Choir (1), Jazz Singers II (1), German Diction (1), Voice (2), Conducting II (2), Music For Children (3), Piano (1), Music Theory III (2), and Aural Skilz III (1). phew. Let's see... I had a good weekend, I believe... The Wallflowers/Third Eye Blind concert was highly enjoyable. I totally loved it. I never realized how many good songs Third Eye Blind has... hm. And of course I LOVED the Wallflowers performance. They're so cool. I bought the Breach album last week, and actually, I'm listening to it even at this very moment! Wow! haha... Another purchase I made this weekend was American Beauty as in the 1999 Best Picture. It really is such a good movie. So I've watched it twice since I bought it, and it's really just an incredible movie. I really do like it quite a lot. Let's see.... what else did I do this weekend... not all that much, I don't think. Sunday was just pretty normal... at least in the morning. I had to skip kids choir to go to the Grand Chorus concert. As I said, that went well. Future plans are pretty self explanatory, not to mention listed below. I've got NATS competition on Friday. Thursday and Friday is the first round. If I make the semi-finals, I have to go back on Saturday. I'm not really expecting it though. So, I've made alternative plans, so that no matter what, I've got something to do Saturday. So, as of right now, my plan is to sing at 2:10 on Friday for the first round. Then, at some point on Friday afternoon (I think) I find out whether I made semi's. Friday night, I'm going to the Expressions concert at CCCC. Then on Saturday I will either A. sing at NATS again and then go see Mulberry Street at The Door at 8, or I will visit Kelli at College Station and attend the A&M football game. So... I'll be attending the A&M vs. OU football game on Saturday if I don't make it semi's in NATS. Could be fun... =) I'll get to do the sophomore yell. "A-A-A-A-A-A-A!!!!!!!!!" hahaha... yesssss... Oh, before I forget, the answer to the ever-burning question "What was Terri doing a year ago?" Well, a year ago yesterday was the Famous Elevator Incident. So, now you can all sleep peacefully with that knowledge. =) Well, I'm actually going to head bedward now, I believe.... so... more later!
11/9 Hello everybody! I'm ripping myself away from CNN for a moment to update the page. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS CRAZINESS???? Oh goodness, I'm going nuts. This is our future, kids!!! As I write, 38 of 67 counties in Florida are in, and Bush is ahead by 830 votes. Palm Beach county is protesting, and the WORLD HAS GONE MAD! Well, maybe it's not that crazy... but it's still really bizarre. [sigh] Ah, but in my actual life, NATS is this weekend. I sing tomorrow at 2:10. I will know if I made semi's at 10am Saturday. So, due to the late time of the announcement, I won't be able to make my trip to College Station. Ah well. BUT, that does mean I get to go see Mulberry Street on Saturday. (assuming I don't make finals. ha. let's be real here.) Or, actually, when I last spoke with my lovely and talented accompanist, Skeeter, she was sick as a dog. So... I don't know what that means. I'm waiting to hear back from Skeeter and then we'll make an executive decision. If she's still sick sick sick, there's no way I'm dragging her out to play, I'm sorry. Call me what you will... you know, compassionate or whatever. ha. We'll see. Hmm.... but let's see.... outside of that...there's not really a whole lot going on right now... just sort of plugging through. Priorities right now include Voice, Piano and Italian Diction. And of course my upcoming choir concerts. We have ACap practice today, per usual. Tomorrow's Jazz practice was cancelled in favor of a rehearsal just for soloists and rhythm section. Instead, we've got a 9pm practice Sunday night. And then of course Monday I've got a lovely lovely day that includes a 3 hour practice for ACap. Woo-hoo! Hmm.... but protests are heating up in Palm Beach County now, so I think I'll go watch that... bye!
11/10 OK, let me just start by venting my political opinion for the day. Right now, it seems to me, that no matter who you voted for and who you actually support, Bush is being a jerk. Am I right? He called for concession from Gore after an incomplete unofficial state-mandated recont puts him ahead by 300 votes and change? He's got to be kidding, right? he knows very well that there are still a lot of absentee ballots to come in, and in a race this close, I don't see why it's such a bad idea to wait for them. And of course there's the whole Palm Beach county thing. Which Bush is of course ignoring. "Hey, come on, let's just throw out 20,000 votes! Who'll miss them?" Um, Gore, nitwit. And then he (Bush... or shall I say, the Shrub) says "Hey, they threw out 16,000 votes in 1996... what's the difference?" Well Shrub, right now the difference is 327, but with those votes, the difference will be quite a few thousand. Or is that fuzzy math? Forgive me. Jerk. And then he's all up in Austin Playing Cabinet with his campaign staff, acting like he's got a divine right to the presidency because Daddy was a president. GIVE ME A BREAK, SHRUB! ergh It makes me so mad! and people thought Gore was arrogant. Let's see, what else ticks me off....? Oh, ok, the spin the the Shrub campaign is putting on this recount... as if Gore asked for it. Hi kids, Florida was closer than the other states, and its state law said that an automatic recount was to take place. yeesh. And ok, so maybe the Palm Beach people aren't the brightest crayons in the box, but I'd like to see them in a battle of wits with our old pal The Shrub. And frankly, in a race this close, when there was obviously some kind of problem in this county (even Pat says there's no way those are his votes) don't these people desrve to have their voices heard? I mean, yes, it's kind of gross that the whole presidency is more or less about to be decided by one county. that's not ideal. But that's the way the Constitution is written, kids. You can't just throw out 19,000 votes for fun when it's this close. ESPECIALLY when you've got one candidate with the popular vote and another one with the electoral vote by a hair. [sigh] ok. In my life, I've got NATS today. Skeeter is sick as a dog and won't be able to make it, but All Glory Laud and Honor to Mark Lucke for stepping in! Yea!!!! I have Aural Skilz here in a few minutes, followed by a quick piano quiz, and then I'll be on the road. I just faxed Mark my music about 40 minutes ago. So, all is well. And actually, since I took so long ranting, I should really go to class now... bye
11/11 Hello everyone. Writing tonight from Plano, fairly late Saturday night... Let's see what all happened today. Well, yesterday was the first round of NATS, which went very well, I thought, all things considered. Based on that performance, I was able to make it on to the semi-finals, which were held today. Friday night, however, I went to the CCCC Expressions concert. I was highly impressed, particularly after my friends who performed told me how bad they thought it was. ha. So, that takes me, chronologically, to this morning, which is when I headed down to SMU again. They announced the semi-finalists at 9:30. I was one of 35 in my division. I'm not sure how many of us there were to begin with. But, I was 11th to sing (at 11:25) and so I got it done and did relatively well, although I think I did better Friday. I just wasn't thinking as much today for some reason. I was thinking more about the expressiveness and less about the vocal technique. So... after I sang, Skeeter and I decided that we preferred to hang out elsewhere rather than sitting at SMU all day. So we went and had lunch (Olive Garden, mmmm) and then we went to the new Stonebriar Mall.... and then we came back in time for the 3:30 announcement of finalists, and I was not one of The Lucky Five. So, I stopped by Chuck's to feed cats real quick, and then I went to The Door to see Justin, Jordan, Jason and Johnny, aka Mulberry Street. They were wonderful as usual. Then Lindsay and Lisa (P not VDH) and I went to go get Lisa's tongue pierced. haha... fun Saturday night activity, no? Yeah well, it was interesting, but it wasn't exactly something that made me want to do it too. So.... after that, the three of us just sort of hung out for a while, nothing too major. So when I came home, I worked on my little solo for tomorrow morning some, just to make sure I really can hit an A-flat like I think I can. Ha. So, we'll see how that actually goes in the morning. But anyway... I think I'll actually go to bed now, given that it's past midnight now... so, g'night, all!
11/16 Hi everbody... let's see... This has been a really exceptionally long week. It truly feels like it should have been Friday yesterday... but it's only Thursday! ughh... Today is going to be a pretty light day, class wise, but I've got a lot of stuff I need to do. I'm a little behind on my juries songs and need to get the notes nailed down on these songs today. Other than that, I basically get to lay around if I want. I have to pick up my dry cleaning after 5, and I have to get pantyhose for tomorrow but other than that, I'm good. We're nearing the end... I've just got the rest of this week, then next week, which is weird because of Thanksgiving, then one full week, then Juries, then Exams. [sigh] That's really about it... I think I may go now to work my voice some... so... that's all for now! OH WAIT! Don't forget my concert tomorrow night! 6:00 in Kenton Hall! Call me if anyone out there needs directions or anything... 972.740.1415! ok... bye
11/20 Hello everyone! Writing today on the lovely and fabulous day after my lovely and fabulous 19th birthday. I had a great day, and I want to be sure to thank everyone that was involved AGAIN for all the wonderful things that happened all day... Let me recap... =) Huzzah to the 4th and 5th grade choir kiddies for singing two great services Sunday morning... and then thanks to the Smiths for taking me out afterwards... then thanks to all my lovely family for having such a great birthday dinner, and thanks to my dear Adam for helping me show off my hidden talent (touching my nose with my tongue, duh) and thanks to my dear Michael for the lovely picture of Justin singing and dancing to It's Gonna Be Mae. And thank you thank you thank you to Sara and Ethan and whoever else was involved in my birthday scavenger hunt. For those of you that haven't heard, the quick recap is a little something like this: there was a note from Sara on the choir room door with my first clue... then I had to go to the loft, where I found ramen soup (2 cases) a "Pop Star!" magazine with *NSync on it, and a 12 pack of Diet Coke... then I had to go to the stage, where I got Victoria's Secret Secret Crush bath gel, lotion, and body spray... then I had to ask Ethan where to find the next gift, which was in a Sunday School room: an electric blanket... then I got a 5 pack of CD-R's from under the pew outside the choir room... then Clint told me to find the next gift in John Holland's old office: a set of hot rollers... then the next gift was in the choir room: an *NSync Fun Pack including a pen, bumper sticker, folder, spiral notebook, and keychain, along with directions on where to find my last gift. At a Walmart in Murphy. Waiting for me there was a prepaid picture cake, with a picture of..... [drumroll please] the most beautiful thing ever wishing me a happy birthday! yesssssss..... it was AWESOME! haha.... but overall, it was a great and fabulous day.... so thank you to everyone who had a hand in it... I'm going to go do something productive now... =) bye!
11/23 Hi everyone! I'm writing on this Thanksgiving from Chuck's place, where I spent the night for lack of room (and cable) at the Worley Inn. I think we are planning to leave for said Inn before too long (it's 12:20 now... dinner at 2) for the traditional family togetherness. =) I'm glad to be off school for just a couple of days, so I have a little time to focus on my voice and my other classes that are ending in the next week or two (as opposed to finals week) aka Voice Italian Piano and Aural Skilz. And Conducting, but man I'm really not looking forward to that one. Mr. Band Pants the Conducting Man decided to give us this giant full score band piece for our final. He's suck a geek. I really despise him. ergh. Ah but that's ok... I'll get through that class somehow. Teacher evaluations are fun. [sigh] In other news, I'm also planning to read Cather in the Rye over the break, hopefully, or at least just start it. No particular reason I picked that one, I just thought it would be good to read one of those Classics. One of those books that everyone has heard about, but only intellectual people can discuss. I want to at least know what it's about. ha. So, I checked that out from the library yesterday, and with any luck, I'll actually read it. If not this break, then certainly over Christmas. Let's see.... what else is up.... I don't think there's really a lot going on... One piece of news that will be particularly good for this site is that I got a birthday present from my dear and wonderful brother (no, not you... the dear and wonderful brother...) And lo, unto me was given a DIGITAL CAMERA! yesssssssssssss... score one for the gipper! So, we'll see how I decide to use it on the site... =) But we're about to go now, so Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Bye
