a summary of my activities in january 2001 write me!
1/3 Well hello everybody! I know I've been a little delinquent on the udating of the webpage, but that's all gonna change! Heh.... well, that's what I say now. Writing this lovely Wednesday afternoon from Plano, where I have just gotten home from work. Yes, I'm working at Alcatel again in Accounts Payable. Mostly, these last few days I've been filing filing filing... they have to box up everything that's associated with 1999 in any way and catalog it and all this. And then, once the 1999 file cabinets are clear, we make sure that all things 2000 are filed and condensed, and THEN we start filing all the 2001 stuff we've let pile up in what were once the 1999 cabinets. So... it's kind of a pain, because we have a couple of weeks worth of 2000 stuff that piled up while only 1/3 of the staff was working, and that 1/3 was boxing up 1999. So, in other words, I'm just about ready to go back to school. haha... I know lots of other stuff has probably gone on that would be interesting on the webpage, but I can't really think of what all that would be. haha... I do know I got some neat stuff for Christmas, including a whole bunch of CD's, most of which were from Chuck I suppose... and then I bought a few for myself. These last few days I've been really into Jonatha Brooke, but man Oh man I started listening to A Perfect Circle on New Year's Eve and I'm loving it! So, to all those of you that rely on me as your one-stop CD review shop... I highly recommend APC, particularly if you're sort of a fan of something a little more abrasive... and I'm all about Jonatha Brooke, particularly if you've ever liked anything by Shawn Colvin. Very similar, in my opinion. But really, that's just about all I can think of to write about just now... so I'll leave it at that.
1/13 Well... my break is more or less over now. I'm done working at Alcatel, although it went very well... Wanda asked me to be sure that I let her know when I have school breaks so that I can come back, and in addition, she sent me a special bonus check! How neat is that? In the meantime, yesterday I also got a bunch of new CD's, as I have now rejoined Columbia House... So that's cool.... you can hunt down which ones are the 15 new disks on my Big List Of CD's. Other than that, I've been getting in my last social hurrah before school starts. Last night Sara and I saw Finding Forrester (which was very good) at the Studio Movie Grill, which was also good. The night before we saw Miss Congeniality at Ye Olde Giant Theatre at Legacy. Tonight we're going to see Mulberry Street play at The Door. After that, Sara is threatening to go "exploring" in Deep Ellum. Maybe I can convince her to just go back to Triangle Bowl again like we did last week... hm. We shall see. Monday I go back to Denton, buy my books and that sort of thing... Tuesday is class. I also have to audition for Jazz Singers again, but I haven't put any thought into it yet at all... it's really not a good thing. Hm. I should do that today. There's really not an incredibly lot more going on right now... I'm about to go over to Sara's to work out. ha! how fun! OK, well.... I'm gone!
1/15 Hello all! Writing this lovely evening from Denton, where I am preparing for the beginning of Semester Four of my college career. I'm really not as ready as I probably should be... but I'm not too worried about it. By not being ready, I basically mean I haven't bought my books yet or really done... well... anything... to prepare. But, I mean, it's not like I've never done this before. First day is all about getting the syllabus anyway... not like I'll need the book. So... I got home, unpacked.. hung up my clothes and stacked up my towels and shoes and stuff like that. I showered. I did a little laundry. And I'm planning to get to bed at a reasonable hour... so I figure I'm in good shape. It's funny... I just don't really feel like I have school tomorrow. It's just one of those weird things... I think because I've been working for like a full month, and I haven't really been in Denton at all... [sigh] I was procrastinating so bad today! haha It took me forever to actually get around to packing up and getting to Denton. I went to the mall with Clint today to try to find some clothes that would match my new hair. Oh... to those of you that don't know... I dyed my hair. It's "tropic". Clairol Hydrience #14. haha. It's sort of a reddish purplish dark color going on. Clint really likes it... heh. He says it looks "gothic"... so you know, whatever. haha... Anyway, it clashes with all my clothes (or at least it seems like it does now... I'll get used to it) so Clint and I went to the mall. I ended up getting no new clothes, of course, because this is me... instead I got 2 hairclips and 4 new CD's. haha I have 234 CD's! How nuts is that? yeesh! But.... uhhhh.... oh yeah... as I was saying... I went to the mall with Clint and then to Chipotle and CD Warehouse... all of which only allowed me to procrastinate until about 3:30. I left Plano at 4:15... so it didn't take too long to "pack" and everything... [sigh] ah well... I'm here now. haha It's all good... I'm glad to get back. Alcatel showed me what happens to people without degrees. Too bad I was probably making about as much money there as I'll be making for the rest of my life. YIKES! How scary is THAT?!?! I need to marry rich... haha So, um... if you're rich... terri@worley.net ok? Drop me a line... we'll get along, promise. haha OK... that's about enough from me for one day... bye!
1/16 Hi everybody! Just a quick entry between classes... I had Aural Skilz III today at 8am... except my teacher (Robert) thought it was at 8:30.. haha he's a winner already. But I have Music For Children coming up here in about 20 minutes... and then Advanced Conducting. Sara and I have actually made a point of dressing alike today... wearing our Loretta Sweaters... hers is red and mine is bluey purple. We're big geeks. In other news... the only adverse effect of my procrastination is that I sort of never got around to auditioning for Jazz Singers this semester... so, the list is posted and I'm not on it. [sigh] Mixed emotions. The main thing is that I'm mad that now it'll look like I caved to Sundquist. So I think I'm going to tell him I'm gigging on the side, just to tick him off. haha... I know that now that I'm not "Jazz Singah" my voice will "really improve" though... haha... what a surprise, right? Ah well... if I really miss it, I'll re-audition next semester. I'm a big geek though. Oh, but man! Guess who's in Jazz Singers I?!?!?! PERRY! GO PERRY! ok... well, that's all I have time for... so... bye!
1/18 Well well well... it's been three full days of school now, and I think I'm just about to get back into it... Some of the highlights of the first few days... I talked to Rosana on Tuesday afternoon and I'm in Jazz Singers II! The catch, of course, is that I'm a tenor! haha... So, needless to say, it's just our little secret... Sundquist need not know my actual voice part. haha. Advanced conducting is cool... less rules, more fun. We have these funky excercises we have to do to improve coordination and independence of our hands (from each other). It's cool. The neat thing about McCoy teaching it is he's one of these guys who knows exactly what his hands are doing at all times... like he can pinpoint little things... like he can show you exactly how one gesture can work well one way, but fail miserably the next way, just because of like, your wrist's angle or something little like that. So, it's good to have a guy that's able to tell you why what you're doing is weird or it isn't working or whatever. Let's see... Music for Children is pretty neat so far. Ms. Hudnall is crazy with the tangents and dramatic pauses. "You were children once... [3 second pause] All of you... [4 seconds, looking around] Have you thought about it? [4 seconds] Have you....? [8 second pause, examing every student's face]" etc. etc. But overall, it's pretty neat... Choir is back in session, and my new little friend Sharon and I have renamed it "RBSG". That's Really Beautiful Singing Gang... which is what McCoy says after about everything we do. We just noticed that yesterday. Of course, when he says it, it's "really beautiful singing, gang." duh. My other classes (Aural Skilz, Music for Children, and Advanced Conducting are the ones I had today... plus choir) are also pretty cool. Theory is theory... same professor... no biggie. Sara's in my class now though. (She's also in Music for Children and Advanced Conducting with me). Then I have College Algebra after Theory. On the first day of Algebra on Wednesday, I heard for the first time that MATH 1010 is a prerequisite for College Algebra, MATH 1100. So.... since I haven't taken 1010, I had to go take this little pre-test sort of a thing, which was basically a big ugly review of Algebra II. No calculators allowed, but only 25 questions. I got a review sheet and got Clint's help last night, as well as my Dad's help with the 3 or 4 questions that neither Clint nor I could figure out. So, I took the little test this afternoon and got 23 of the 25 questions right. Because I scored so high, the little math lady said I was eligible to take the test to test out of MATH 1100. But see, if I were to choose to test out of 1100, I would still have to take some kind of math class at UNT... and it would end up being like... calculus or some mess like that. And seeing as I wasn't motivated to do that when I was in high school, or last year... or you know, EVER... I said, no thanks, I'll take the class I'm supposedly capable of passing without even being taught. After Algebra is Piano... Piano is Piano the whole world round... but my teacher is kinda neat... you'll have to check him out on the quote page... I hope to add quotes from each of my teachers... After Piano is German Diction with Herr Sundquist, my favorite. =) haha... Most of these classes will be best described by the teacher quotes. Next is Jazz Singers II. We have three songs so far: Icarus (done by SI 97-98... tenor feature... *grin*) Mas Que Nada (made famous by Sergio Mendez, Austin Powers, and SI 99-00) and Operator (Manhattan Transfer... kick butt gospel-esque female solo line all the way through... how could I not love it?). So, needless to say, I enjoy the music. And I guess that's all my classes... In news outside of actual school... oh wait... that's all the news I have. haha Actually, I did want to call to everyone's attention the concert dates that are now posted at the bottom of this page... I think that's about all there is for me to say! So... I'm going to go do the quotes page now! Bye!
1/22 Well, first and foremost, Happy Birthday to Timmy Joe! Timmy is 20 today... go Timmy! Today was a Monday, which means it was long and I had to carry around lots and lots of stuff all day. I had Theory (scale of 1-10... 7 for being moderately boring) followed by Algebra (9 for being easy... taking the whole 50 minutes to introduce the concept of slope. AAAAAhahahahahaha.... Then I had Piano (8 for being useful and working on scales most of the time) and German Diction (2 for reading the book to us... yeesh Sundquist) and then Jazz Singers II (5 for having to read through this wretched arrangement of "People.... people who need people...") then Voice (9 for him not saying anything about my lack of vibrato and for me sightreading the diction of my German songs almost flawlessly after he half-heartedly accused me of not paying attention while he read us the book) and finally choir (8 because I don't know... there was nothing wrong with it, but I was tired by then). Then I took a nap... or at least I started to take a nap until Clint decided to IM me about a million times and wake me up... erghhhhhh... THANKS CLINT! We talked for a little bit and then I went back to sleep until around 6 or so... Then I did grocery shopping and watched 7th Heaven and now that's where I am. I'm going to finish up this little entry and then I'm doing Algebra homework and possibly watch Silence Of The Lambs? I'm not sure if that's the agenda for the night or not... this is just what I overhear from Sara and Pat. As to what went on this weekend... Friday I had class and all that... I think I ran some errands in the evening if I remember right... then we all (Sara and Pat and myself of course) watched The Virgin Suicides, which of course, I read this summer. Ah yes, The Virgin Suicides, the Feel-Good Movie Of The Summer. It was good though. I would recommend it. So that was pretty much Friday. Saturday I got to bum around most of the day.... did homework and stuff... Saturday evening my long lost cousin Stacey called and asked me to babysit her two kids and her friend's three kids. It was alright... they live in the Colony and I was there from about 7 or 7:30 until after 1am. Luckily, I had the great pleasure of talking to Clint for a while on the phone while the youngins were entertaining themselves. Thanks Clint! Clint is a pal. Clint sometimes likes to read the page to see how often he's mentioned. Clint is neat. Go Clint. Clint Clint Clint. heh. Sunday I went to church. My kids sang at both services. The rest of Sunday was pretty normal schedule... I sat in on New Horizon, then I had my kids and then kids chimes. Then I went home... "home" being Denton. I stopped by Blockbuster and rented American History X at the recommendation of.... CLINT! I fell asleep partway through, not necessarily because of the quality of the movie, as I was really enjoying it... but I was pretty beat down after a late Saturday and an early Sunday... So.... that pretty much brings us current... I'm going to go watch Silence of the Lambs now I believe...
1/29 Hi everyone! What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? hahaha Happy post-superbowl Monday, all. I've had a pretty decent last few days... lots of stuff to do and all that, but not bad overall. I don't know that I really have a whole lot to report just now... life continues as usual. Most of those things that are new and interesting in my life are of a slightly less internet-friendly nature. haha Don't get too excited... nothing too juicy. [shrug] But fear not, it's all still being recorded for my own benefit in my journal... the handwritten one. haha... Today is kind of a busy day.... class straight through until 3 and a jazz guys sectional at 5, after which I will high-tail it to Plano for a kids choir meeting. That's really about it for today. I'm on a big Indigo Girls kick... which has more to do with my mood and all that than my actual life. That's really about it... so... bye!
1/31 Once again, a quick entry between classes... I'm between Jazz Singers and ACap right now. Hmmm... things that have gone on in the last 2 days... We had a test in choir on Monday over this really kick-you-in-the-crotch, spit-on-your-neck fantastic song. I did decent, except that I was randomly drawn to be in group one, so my nerves were bad and I screwed up the rhythm on my entrance... But I talked to McCoy about it and he asked me why I thought I screwed up. I said nerves. He said why? I said that I'm intimidated by my fellow choir members, in that they are mostly upperclassmen and grad students... the kind of people that are getting opera roles and even singing professionally, some of them. And he said... quote... "Terri, you have a beautiful instrument, and you did not get into this choir on a fluke. You deserve your seat in this room just as much as anyone else, and I need you to take on a leadership state of mind. Be bolder. We need you."
Whoa. I was all.... uhhhhhhh yes sir. Haha... the last time someone told me to sing louder in choir, it was Mark Unkenholz in New Horizon when I was in 9th grade... and we all know what happened after that. hahaha... I don't think I'm in any real danger of being louder than my fellow altos though. whoa. Our ppp is New Horizon's f. And I'm actually not exaggerating... we're pretty loud. And New Horizon is pretty quiet. haha... anyway... that was my major news of the last couple of days really, was the "be bolder" thing... And I really don't have a whole lot of time to say much more, as I have to have lunch... so... bye!
