8/1 It's August! Can we believe it? Can we? Huh? NO! NO WE CAN'T! haha... well, today was a pretty good day, all things considered. Yesterday was gross... I was sick... feeling totally gross. Today my illness has more or less reduced itself to sniffles and a sore throat. So, I was able to work in relative peace today. Other wonderful news today was that I got the housing letter for next year from UNT, and yes children, it's true! Sara and I are confirmed residents of Mozart Square come August 20th! And the BEST part is.... WE GOT THE FIRST FLOOR! So, all the pain and anguish, the torment and despair that we were forced to endure last year as third floor residents... well, my friends, that torment is NO MORE! To sum up... Some other good news today was that I got to talk to Dave about things at church, and it looks like I will be a semi-commuter next year, as a (paid) children's choir director and Chancel Choir member! I'm not the head honcho in charge of kids choir, as had been previously hinted, partially because they're going to a sort of team-oriented setup for kids choirs... So, I'll be in Plano pretty much every Sunday and Wednesday this coming school year. Now Dad, before you freak out and pull a Dave (watch that blood pressure!)... listen to my logic for a sec. OK, remember how in high school I didn't work because you told me not to, but ALSO because I was incredibly busy with other stuff...? And also remember how I worked at IU even though you were kind of not for it, and I ended up with a 3.7...? And remember how I didn't work last semester and my grades fell? In my opinion, I think that this could be an academically good thing... I have a history of working better when I've got more stuff going on... forced to prioritize and get stuff done... So, there. If you're still really concerned and stuff, that's ok... I understand. We can talk. BUT, changing my mind isn't all that likely. haha. Plus, if you change my mind, you might kill Dave (see blood pressure comment above). The choice is yours, Dad. But that's pretty much it around here... So, bye now!
8/3 Well, I hope all of my PISD friends had a good first day... most of the reports I heard (both of them!) were at least relatively favorable. One was "awesome" a bunch of times... and the other one was mostly just "ok" I think, with the high point of a "hottie" in one of the person's classes... haha... fun! As for me, tomorrow I officially get to start doing data entry, as I have finally plugged through the huge number of invoices I was working with. So, that's good, I suppose. Just two weeks of work left after tomorrow... then a week to move back to Denton, and then school! yikes! So Soon! I really need to start thinking about my Jazz Singers audition, as well as my normal choir audition... as it just occurred to me that those auditions can't be more than two weeks away! YIKES!!! Other than that, there's not too much going on... For those of you that aren't related to me (and I don't think there are too many of you out there reading this) please feel free to drop by mi casa this Friday night, any ole time... It's Open Invitation Night! And, same plan next Friday... I'm looking forward to seeing lots and lots of people... I think I already have 4 confirmed guests with more on the way I hope... that's 4 for this week, 6 for next! Woo-hoo! And to those of you who are related to me, and who might be getting nervous about the fact that I'm inviting people over to a parentless house... Get Over It! Hi, I'm 18, and thanks but I know my friends and I am in no danger of getting my house trashed a la [name of 80's movie here]. Thanks =)... but anyway... right now I need to get to bed... So, much love to all, and Happy Tax-Free Weekend, Texas Residents! Woo-hoo!
8/6 Well, I just want to write a quick update for the sake of updating before I go to bed. I had a lovely weekend overall... actually quite lovely. I worked Saturday morning and lunched with Sara... then I went to Denton as well as the mall Saturday night. Then Sara and Ethan and I ventured forth to the Garland Opry where Shelly and her mom and sister were competing in a talent search thing as "Three Of Hearts". The Opry was relatively enjoyable.... but of course, as usual, what could easily have been a nice little evening with a good night's sleep evolved into a late night... but it was a good night... So I went to church this morning as well as Sunday School, and then went and crashed on the couch for a few hours before returning to church for a kids choir meeting and a performance of Mulberry Street (fka Solstice) at youth group. Overall.... a good weekend... this week promises to be pretty boring I think... pretty much a "same ole same ole" kind of week.... working all the time, you know. But the money is good. I am looking forward to purchasing my new computer soon.... possibly next weekend... if not then, then for sure for sure the following weekend. =) yesssssssss! But, that's really about it from here... I shall head bedward...
8/9 What a day this has been... what a rare mood I'm in... as it were. Hey hey hey to all. Life is good here... I'm loving this "let's have the house to myself" thing that I've got going on... So nice to just laze around on the couch until suddenly it's dark... haha... Work is steady and monotonous... but it pays well and I am so far from complaining it's not even funny. I guess I don't really have all that much to report... I'm just in a good mood.... that's all. I'm trying to think of something to say.... hmmmm.... theres really just a lot of nothing going on... nothing website-worthy anyway... Sorry... I know you're all disappointed, but do try to hold back the tears... you'll pull through...
8/13 Hey hey hey... Well, it's been another fun weekend... one of my last ones! That is, I've got next weekend more or less unplanned, and then the next weekend I'll be a full-time Denton resident! yikes! Lately, I've been doing still a whole lot of nothing.... working... borrowing CD's... haha. I'm house/cat-sitting for Chuck this weekend, and have therefore borrowed I think 5 cd's from him... plus, Clint actually agreed to let me borrow not one, not two, but THREE OF HIS CD'S! whoa. This is all new for Clint.... he's quite the protective CD owner... But let's see.... Mostly I've been working and listening to lots of music... Practicing some piano today... some scales, basic chord progressions, that type of thing... working up my songs for my auditions in a little less than two weeks.... (Jazz Singers the 26th and UNT Choirs the 28th)... I'm thinking of doing "I Can't Make You Love Me" (my ole standard) and "They Can't Take That Away From Me" for Jazz Singers... and probably "Che faro senza Euridice?" for UNT Choirs... just seems like some good repetoire to me.... any thoughts from the peanut gallery are always appreciated... Let's see.... that's really about all the news that is news...so I'm out of here!
8/18 Well, I write you now from my brand new computer... the product of a summer's toil at Alcatel. I'm quite pleased by it... I can now burn CD's if I so choose... and I believe I do! haha... I also have a fun webcam, so Sara and I have been discussing which avenues of internet pornography would be most lucrative for us... yikes.... nooooooooo!!! But, it does mean that once I figure out how to use it, we might start adding fun video clips to the page... who knows... ummm... I bought a bunch of new CD's the other night too... I'm slowly unearthing the Pantera fan deep within me... not to mention the Nine Inch Nails fan within... yeah, I've been hanging around Clint and Ethan too much... [hanging head in shame] haha... I've been asked to work some next week at Alcatel... my current plan is a half day Monday, fulls on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and then take Friday off for The Real Move. I guess I'll be a Denton resident this time next week... Friday night, I guess... although Sara and I were talking about it and we don't remember what there is to do in Denton on the weekends... haha... so... who knows! But, that's the plan as I know it...
Other than that... I can't really think of anything else of note to report... so... I guess that's all
8/23 Well, it's been a long hard last couple of days or so... I'm just really sort of tired. Just generally beat to death. So, I guess I'm looking forward to getting to Denton and getting away from this rut I seem to be digging for myself in Plano... I need to be mentally more occupied than I have been recently... I started reading a book yesterday about personality typing via the enneagram... it's really quite interesting... according to the abbreviated survey, I would appear to be a type 5 (the Investigator)... but as I read more of the book, I'm looking like a type 4 (the Individualist)... I don't know... it's all very interesting... but I find that I identify most with the various pitfalls of my personality type, rather than the strengths.... so it's been a new and interesting way of depressing myself. ha... add that in with a little dose of personal emotional distress and some repressed anger... and a pinch of isolationism... and voila! I wrote another poem... haha. How fun. Ah but, it's not quite fit for web-publication... I don't think I'll be posting my complete works here any time soon. ha... Actually, I'm going to go catch up with my songs of the day now and then head to bed, I think... g'night all
8/25 Well, here I am kids, ready for another wild wonderful year of EDUCATION! yesssssssssssss!!!! Writing you now from the equally wild and/or wonderful UNT Library.... aka the only place I can hook up to the internet right now... heh. Tomorrow morning at 8am I will head to the (wild and wonderful) UNT Bookstore to purchase said internet, since NetZero is pretending it doesn't recognize its own 940 phone number. hmph. So, tonight will be a fun night to enjoy my cable and clean house. Sara and Pat are headed to the Sting concert, so I'll be on my own... awwww..... how sad for me.... hahaha... let's see.... there's not really a whole crazy lot to report, other than that I am now officially residing in Denton once more. Oh... my phone number, for those who are interested, is in fact 940-ETHNO-51. I wanna say that's like 384-6651? whatever... it's ethno. heh. And that, my friends, is all from here.... I'm headed back home now... so I'll catch ya on the proverbial flip side!
8/26 Well, last night was actually such a way fun night!!!! There was DARIA MARATHON ON MTV!!!! They're setting up for the Daria movie tomorrow night... and... well... they did a danged good job of it, because I know I'll be recording it! (I'll actually be en route back home to Denton when it's on) So, last night was fun.... I cleaned up the kitchen some, broke down all the boxes in the room (we were beginning to look like cardboard worshippers with our giant Shrine To Cardboard in the middle of everything), I organized my closet and alphabetized the CD's, put up shelves and arranged things on said shelves... then I trekked to Wal-Mart and got some foodie! (yogurt, jello cups, butter, chicken, healthy choice frozen pizzas, etc.) Upon returning home, I put up most of my wall decoration-y things... (Lance, the big little girl, Sgt. Pepper, and some family pictures) AND the real kicker.... I taped a mirror to my shelves... now, you say to yourself, in what way is that the kicker, Terri? well.... that's what Sara said until I made her sit in my chair and look in the mirror.... and lo and behold, it looks like your working on the computer.... but in reality, you're watching BACKWARDS TV! Woo-hoo!!!! So, that's good... Why turn around to watch TV, when you can play FreeCell AND watch TV simultaneously? haha... Let's see.... I just had my Jazz Singers audition about an hour ago.... it went relatively well, I think... of course, being me, I had to screw up something... this time that was the words to Bonnie Raitt... I covered realatively well by sort of combining the words from both verses, and luckily for me they only wanted the first verse... so I didn't have to look at their faces as I repeated myself, as I would have inevitably done... hm. So... that's been about it for today.... supposedly we're going to go see Bring It On tonight, which we affectionately refer to as "The Butt Movie", as the advertising would have it seem... ha... So... that's really it from here for now.... So long!
8/28 Hello dear friends, Romans, and/or countrymen... Today was my first day of classes... such classes included Music Theory, Aural Skills (or Skilz), Piano, and Jazz Singers II. Yes, that's right, I'm in Jazz Singers II!!!!! Ah, but my comments on that will come after my comments on my other classes. First, theory. The teacher seems pretty decent. I got the basic speech as always... [ahem] "I respect hard work from my students... as long as I see that you put forth effort, I see no reason that you should not do well..." blah blah blah. But, who knows. Second class... Aural Skilz. The good news is, my teacher's first language is ENGLISH! YESSSSS!!! So, that should help... I'll be able to actually communicate with my teacher this year! whoa.... moving on... Piano II. hm. well... it will be difficult. It will be quite difficult. But, I think I can do it. Basically, I think I don't have a whole lot of choice in the matter. heh. So... Singers! yea! We sang some today and wow! I am so impressed by these peoples! And so happy to be one of them! I don't necessarily think they're all that great, all of them, but we're all pretty good. Good sightreaders all around, for sure. We started work on a ballad today called On Rainy Afternoons.... and everyone did really well with it... we sang about halfway through it already! yea! So, I was pleased... other than that.... today I've worked a little on my schedule, just trying to drop the class that conflicted with Jazz Singers II... (phys ed) and adding voice, which I had technically not yet registered for.... so... I'm at 13 hours right now... I'm going to talk to Ms. Hudnall (advisor) tomorrow to figure out if there's another class I can take... Bad news is, the only time I have open is MWF at 8am... and I don't see any openings in the classes I'm looking at for that time... But we shall see... Ummmm.... I think that's it from me.... later!
8/31 Well, here it is, the end of August, kids... Let's see... My schedule is now officially set in stone... I'm now up to 15 hours (actual number of hours/week spent in class = 26) Music courses are funny like that... I'm in choir for an hour four days a week plus two hours on Tuesday for no credit.... that's 6 hours a week for 1 credit! yesssss... [puking] So, the new class in my life is conducting... every Monday Wednesday and Friday for an hour... for a whopping two credit hours... So, that's a fun class.... I had to buy a baton! score!!!! It's my new favorite toy! In other news, choirs were posted yesterday, and once again all my friends (Sara, Damien, Susan Ayers, Cute Brian From Last Year...) are in Concert Choir... I made ACappella once more... we have Dr. Jerry McCoy as our director this year... he's been at OSU for the last several years... he seems pretty cool, albeit slightly softspoken. I think he'll take the program in some good directions... Oh, so one thing I only just realized today... Like, I was looking at the choir lists... and in Canticum Novum, it's all grad students and maybe a few seniors... and in ACappella, there are 5 freshman... I think 2 sopranos and 3 guys... and I'm the only sophomore alto, I believe... so.. I'm pleased with myself, once more! =) So, today we had out first rehearsal... looks like we'll be wearing the same dress as last year (yea!) and I also got this semester's performance dates. They are listed below.... but now I'm going to sign off in favor of "The Shining"... g'night all!
FUTURE PLANS
