Face Markings

1. Star - Any white marking between the eyes on the forehead. May not be anywhere below the middle of the face.

2. Strip - Any white marking from the middle of the face to the top of the nostrils. Note the spelling, it's strip, not stripe. A stripe is a totally different making on the face.

3. Stripe - A straight thin white line running from the forelock to the top of the nostril line but not touching the eyes are nostrils.

4. Race - A stripe that veers to the right or left side of the muzzle and isn't straight.

5. Blaze - A blaze is a white marking that starts at the forelock or just above the eyes and runs down the length of the face to the top of the nostrils. Blazes must be as wide as the eyes and cover both nostrils.

6. Bald - Also known as apron. Bald or apron is a white marking that extends past both eyes and nostrils on the sides of the face and is usually accompanied by blue eyes.

7. Chin - Any white marking on the chin.

8. Lip(s) - Any white marking on one or both lips.

9. Snip - Any white marking on the muzzle between the nostrils.

10. Muzzle - Any white marking on the muzzle between the nostrils.

11. Lightning marks - Lightning marks are odd smooth or jagged markings on the face. They may be very small or larger and may be the only mark on the face or part of a blaze, bald face, or other marking. Lightning marks on the face are DIFFERENT from the appaloosa leg lightning marks.
