Very Important Stuff
When you look to download a scenario, you will notice that it has a "slot number" under the link. This is extremely important. A "slot" is the place in which a scenario file can be inserted into the RCT game menu. For example, Forest Frontiers is in slot one. That is, it is the first scenario selectable when the game menu comes up. The scenario below that, which I believe is either Evergreen Gardens or Diamond Heights, is in slot number two. All in all, the original RCT comes with 21 slots taken up. I use the TRG Scenario Editor to create my scenarios for my site. Anyone else out there with legitimate scenarios most likely uses this program, unless there is some phantom scenario editor I am unaware of (many sites that claim to have new scenarios for download actually have only saved game files. If you notice, the file name ending for scenario files in .SC4. For saved games, it's .SV4. However, this is often times a way to create decent scenario-type files with the problem of slots that I will mention if you read further. I might develop an alternate section for saved game scenarios in the future.) Anyway, the TRG Scenario Editor allows the player-created scenarios to be saved into one of the slots from 35-39. That's 5 different slots. What that means is if you have in your scenarios directory more than 5 user-created scenarios, there's bound to be some trouble. When a person such as myself, or even you, creates a scenario, you have to designate the slot you want the scenario to be in. With only 5 slots to choose from, obviously there will be problems with a lot more than 5 player-created scenarios out there on the web. That's why I will include the slot number in the scenario file name. For example, my first file is islandgetaway39.sc4. This means that the scenario runs in slot 39. It is important for you to know what slot the scenarios run it because you can't have more than one scenario for each slot. If you have two scenarios for the same slot, then only one will show up, and you never know which one it will be. So, if you have downloaded scenarios from this site, you will be able to tell which slot the scenario runs in. That way, you can just move the scenarios in the slot you don't want to play right now out of the scenarios directory and just keep the one scenario in that slot you want to play. BUT REMEMBER: If you want to load a saved game of a scenario that is not currently in the scenarios directory, you must move that scenario into the directory and move all other scenarios with the same slot designition OUT. This assures your game will be loaded successfully. It's a pain in the ass, I know, but it's the tiny price we gamers play to get the extra enjoyement out of RCT. If you have read all of this and understand it completely, I commend you. Hell, I even confused myself at times! If you are anything like me, however, you might still have some questions, so feel free to email me. Click here to return to the scenarios page.
UPDATE! As of right now, I am only able to get scenarios to work in slots 35, 37, and 39, so those will be the only three slots for my files. I am working to discover what is causing this problem. Thanks. 1
