Handling Tips Walk, do not run around the stable/yard and paddock when there are horses around. Do not get cross or flustered Speak quietly to both the horses and your friends. Do not shout or yell. Walk up to horses confidently. Do not be nervous or you will make the horse nervous. Always ask the owners permission before walking up to their horse. When leading your horse, dont look back at them, just feel them following you. |

Mounting 1. Always use a ladder to mount when possible. It is kinder on your horses back. 2. Mount from both sides, so that your horse can become used to it and doesn't become one sided 3.When you are mounting make it as soft as you can and dont move quickly. If you move quickly and make lots jerky movements when you are getting on your horse might think it needs to move. |
