A pair of orange-chinned parakeets in a tree. This specis of bird is very gregarious- large flocks of them fly in the early morning and at dusk across the Gamboa skies. As they fly they make a variety of chattering-like loud calls.
One day, the sky over Gamboa, went an incredible orange colour. This preceeded sunset, but was NOT the actual sunset. Very strange and visually stunning.
A white faced capuchin pokes its head out from between some branches, at head level. It and I were maybe 6 feet apart. Shot on Barro Colorado Island- an island created by the flooding of the Panama Canal, where the Smithsonian now has a field site and a lot of tropical research is conducted.
An unknown (but very large: 10 cm in length) grasshopper- shot on Pipeline Road.
A white necked jacobin- the most common hummingbird in Gamboa- sits on a branch just outside my house.
A northern jacana sits on the lilly pads in Gamboa harbour. This species has very long toes to aid in walking on the pads. In flight, its flight feathers show a bright yellow.
