TOURING; NEW RECORD OUT: THE GOLDEN HOUR
Firewater (photo at top) and Cop Shoot Cop share singer Tod Ashley (the guy in the picture above), also known as Tod A. Cop Shoot Cop was the greatest of all bands, and was a noisy little outfit that in some incarnations was known for having multiple bassists and no guitarist (and the keyboards weren't exactly lead most of the time). Firewater isn't really noisy usually; nevertheless they continue much of the underlying song writing style of CSC (although it took me a few listens to their first album to make the transition). This isn't to derrogate the other members of both bands; their own contributions can be seen on their other projects, many of which have links below.
There are links to audio below, so you can decide for yourself what Firewater and Cop Shoot Cop sound like. Phil Puleo's site is the best source for Cop Shoot Cop MP3s; there is no primary source for Firewater MP3s, unless you count The Tod Hole as your guide to them

Bloodshot Records signed Firewater in December. "The Golden Hour" is due out in April. Link. (January 9th).
Updates to Shithaus, Dig Dat Hole, and Cop Shoot Cop pages thanks to info from Jose Fritz. (January 9th).
2007
CSC updates: Jim Coleman and Phil Puleo (and Jim Collarusso) are involved with the Michael Weiner music project The Children.
http://myspace.com/thechildrensmusic . Phil also has had two songs commissioned by a Chinese amusement park that are on his page at http://philpuleo.com . Natz toured with Unsane recently in Europe, and he has art up at http://www.copshootcop.com/Natz_Paints/index.html. (September 14th).F
irewater's new album will be called "The Golden Hour". The band has been consumed by the darkness which is Myspace and have a myspace page . Please remember that Myspace is a cheat and to throw painful things at anyone who decides basing themselves there is a good idea. Note that at this moment both Bourbon and Division and a new song start playing at the same time, which makes for a complicated sounding remix of Bourbon and Division; but it's not. Stop Bourbon from playing on the top player (or don't, and be all Flamiing Lips about it). Several new songs are on the page; Borneo, This Is My Life, Six Forty Five, Hey Clown!, Weird To Be Back, and Three Legged Dog. They've also got something up on youtube about the record. (August 29th).A Shithaus cassette was on
eBay over the weekend. I unfortunately didn't win it. If you did and would like to spread the audio in some form, feel free to contact me. Hell, if you just have the audio from it in some way, contact me at thetodholeATnetscape.net. (March 19th).2006
Merry
Xmas . (December 23rd).Tod is supposedly in Bali right now. The next album is supposed to be called Electric City (or was in November), with potential songs Three Legged Dog, Already Gone, Weird to Be Back, and Shine Electric City. (December 23rd).
CSC's video for Shine on Elizabeth is on
YouTube . (December 23rd).Phil Puleo has a WOG CD for sale on his site: go
here to buy it before the 100 copies disappear; there's also still the two live CSC discs and the Red Expendables CD. (August 15th).Tod is making an ill-advised journey from the far east to the middle east. Theoretically, his missives should be showing up
here , but I don't think they are. They are showing up at Firewatercircus from Dan Nucci on occassion tho. Search for "Postcards". (July 14th).Firewater now has a
Myspace page. Oh well... (July 14th).Tod is scheduled to appear (and presumably play) at a tribute to George Javori March 8th at 8PM at Sin-E . 150 Attorney St in NYC; tickets are $5. Paul Wallfisch and the Elysian Fields, both Firewater related, are scheduled as well. (February 26th).
Tod is reportedly meeting with producers in Istanbul. Demos described as aggro but peppy. My guess on an album title: Byzantium Biznitch. (January 12th).
2005
Happy holidays. (December 23rd).
Former Firewater drummer George Javori reportedly committed suicide over the weekend. (December 12th, 2005).
Updated and cleaned out a bunch of main page links. (May 11th, 2005).
New Cop Shoot Cop CD-R (Live From Switzerland '94, previously available as a cassette, so I need to get info on that and add it to the discography) from Phil Puleo's web store. There's a link to buy some old original CSC posters as well. Heheh, maybe I should silkscreen some new original Tod Hole posters... (April 22nd).
Phil Puleo's Audio Dyslexia is playing May 21st at CBGB's. So's Botanica. It's a who's who of people who don't work with Tod anymore... (April 22nd).
Firewater-related Shotnez is playing Tonic on April 1st. Fuck NYC. Every prophet in his house. (March 28th).
The Firewater-related Balkan Beat Box is doing stuff; oops, they already did it. Be careful, their webpage works like shit on some browsers. (March 28th).
Hey! Cop Shoot Cop's "Migration" is the music in a Nike ad. A Nike ad? Yes, a Nike ad! Just like William S Burroughs. Kinda. The three and a half meg Shockwave file is directly at http://niketown.nike.com/niketown/media/3d/nikepro/swf/np_comm_360.swf , or it's at the page http://niketown.nike.com/niketown/catalog/category.jsp?categoryId=52627. For now. (January 24th).
I recently found a CD called "Super Cool" from a Japanese band named Captain Condoms, circa 1990. Tod Ashley is listed as a lyric cooperator. Neato. (January 24th).
Firewater release is on the back burner; 18 songs are demo-ed, but Tod has gone to Thailand to learn to teach English as a foreign language. (He should tell people he's gone to Thailand to teach Thai to Thais, but that's a story for another day.) I guess we can infer he's not spinning every week still. Let's hope it doesn't turn into a "Brokedown Palace" situation... (January 10th).

The Man on the Burning Tightrope
Here's http://www.firewater.tv , the official Firewater site. As of June 2005, it was last updated sometime before the last album came out in early 2004 (other than the forums ). "Music" doesn't even show Songs We Should Have Written. For shame... It does have some photos, videos, and the entire album "The Man on The Burning Tightrope" on it tho.
Here's a link to the Yahoo Groups page for the Firewater Circus, where a lot of stuff is talked about but Firewater isn't discussed much. It is not for those who are looking for just updates on tours or albums.
Here's a link to the Starmelt Firewater fan site. In a world whgere Firewater sites keep dropping off the map, it's still aorund.
Here, naturally enough, is JetSet's Firewater page.
UPDATED 6/11/05: Here is the Noisolution page; it had an English setup in spite of apparently being Firewater's German label, but now that's gone, along with most of the rest of the Firewater content. On the plus side, they use les Flash now. However, they seem to call "Songs We Should Have Written" "Coveralbum" instead...
My page of links to articles, interviews, etc. See below for AV links.
FIREWATER AUDIO/VIDEO (dropping like files)
There are Windows Media and Real Player files from KEXP from Firewater in studio on 11/12/2003 at
this link. It has Dark Days Indeed, Man on the Burning Tightrope, Some Strange Reaction, Too Many Angels, and an interview. You can buy AACs of songs from the albums "Get Off The Cross", "Songs We Should Have Written", "The Man On The Burning Tightrope", and both the Jetset and Universal versions of "The Ponzi Scheme" from the Apple iTunes store. I can't give you a link, since you can only access it through the program
iTunes. An MP3 of "Anything At All" from the album "The Man on the Burning Tightrope" can be downloaded from
Amazon.com for free. It could also be downloaded from Jetset,, but that MP3 link is now dead, however the page does have working links to clips from the earlier albums on the same page. Some sample MP3s from "Songs We Should Have Written" are available at
Vibromonk (updated link 6/11/05).Here's the Epitonic
Firewater page, which helpfully has an MP3 of Get Out of My Head at the time of this writing. Even more helpfully, it appears to be a demo mix of the song. The demolicious version is also available at Insound, certainly through this general "F" page, but maybe through this link more directly And this link seems to lead to it from a place called Free MP3 for download, but it may simply be leeching one of the other sites since it seems like a hidden redirect.Firewater.tv has the album "The Man on the Burning Tightrope" playing using a Shockwave file as a player front end, so you can listen to the whole album. They also have Woke Up Down and Get Out of My Head videos at this page.
Clips from the Firewater albums Songs We Should Have Written and The Man On The Burning Tightrope, http://www.vibromonk.com/cd%20pages/Firewater.htm.
Here is a
long and good video of Firewater live at the Paleo Festival. It's about 40 megs, but worth it. There's also an edit which is under 7 megs. Here is a site with an
audio clip of Tod on Psychopharmacology and death, along with a collection of hooks from the album and a dumb call out of the website address.(WORKING 6/11/05) This
page at Jetset has the eCard video of Get Out Of My Head (Ritalin Mix) (or go straight to the Shockwave file), unlike the now dead Terminal Jive page that used to be my link for it.This page has Firewater playing
Get Out of My Head live at Pier 86 in NYC 6/26/2002. It's available as a stream or as a download in Real Media format. There are also stills. The link that follows seems to be a way to download the Ponzi Scheme through what looks like a horrible, horrible service called Pressplay, full of proprietary formats that aren't MP3s, aren't supported on Macs, that you have to pay to stream music through and seem to only be able to keep for an additional $1 a song. Stay away from
this link. UPDATE 6/11/05: Now it's Napster. And it claims the album title is The Ponzi Theme. Staaaaaaaay awaaaaaaaaaay...Who knows what's
here.Cop Shoot Cop Links:
My
Cop Shoot Cop page in this site. Here is CSC co-founder Phil Puleo's
Cop Shoot Cop site. Which contains a wealth of CSC knowledge, as well as some tasty MP3s and images. There are also things he will sell you related to CSC, specifically the Red Expendables CD (Red X being the short lived incarnation of CSC after Tod left) and a new live CD-R from 1991. And now an even newer live CD-R. It may now be easier to find the store links by going to http://www.copshootcop.com.Here's a fine
discography with some interesting images of CSC and related bands, apparently from Germany. Here's a
1992 interview.A German(?)
intervju with CSC (so, it's been translated into German). It also has a short MP3 of the interview, actually in English, of Natz talking, I think.Video for
Room 429 at Richard Kern's site. Well, it's actually an animated gif of images from the video, but it's still there. Here's a
Russian site with CSC lyrics. Why is there a Russian site with CSC lyrics? Who knows! Similar lyric content is here. Here's an extensive
Italian page on Cop Shoot Cop. Check out the cool pic involving the Release cover art, with some band members (counter clockwise from upper left I think it's Tod, Phil and Cripple Jim) and, presumably, Genice (the artist responsible) .Here's a
guitar tab of Everybody Loves You When you're Dead.Occasionally I'll see a reference to KJ Grant being with Cop Shoot Cop at some point. It often comes up in relation to the Elliot Sharp record Tectonics. Also "Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Yahoos". KJ Grant appears to be a
woman. My best guess is KJ Grant is "Killjoy", who provided "voice" on White Noise on the track "Empires Collapse" and "aahs" on "Room 429". Kinda tenuous to list her as a CSCer on your eBay auctions, I thinkHere's a song here called
Cop Shoot Cop by Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons. It could be the theme song to the true life bio pic of Cop Shoot Cop except that it is a Spiritualized song about drug use. It used to be available to download there, but no longer. Here is my old
Cop Shoot Cop discography. It's been pretty much superceded by my new Cop Shoot Cop page.Related Links:
Here's a link to CSC-ers Phil Puleo and Jim Coleman's
Audio Dyslexia project, also involving Carolyn Honeychild Coleman, Hjohn Nowlin of Barkmarket, and Tim Bradlee of the Spitters. Or more specifically, here. Jim is not active in the current lineup. They were said to be having a CD coming out soon, with rough MP3s on the site, but that info is sseemingly gone. Instead there are still mp3s there.Lubricated Goat (link dead last I checked) does in fact now feature Jack Natz of Cop Shoot Cop (and someone from the Spitters, which means both Audio Dyslexia and Lubricated Goat feature members of CSC and the Spitters). Buy Great Old Ones, which features Natz.
My page of links and info on CSC-er Jack Natz''s Black Snakes. Inexplicable to have a page devoted to a group markedly less important than Cop Shoot Cop or Firewater when there's not a similar page for CSC or Firewater here yet? You bet!
Natz was in a group called Razor Chamber before CSC or the Blacksnakes, which can be found here. Natz played on three of the MP3s that can be found on that page; Clay People, Untitled and The Sky Is Crying. They were "recorded live in rehearsal on December 21, 1986 in NYC" according to Greg Fasolino.

page. Here's Phil Puleo's solo stuff in the form of
WOG. Or, more specifically, here. Phil puts up different and interesting MP3s here, so check it out occasionally for interesting sonic bits you've missed.Phil Puleo has done lots with the Swans and projects closely associated with the Swans. Here's a page about the Angels of Light's record "New Mother"
(buy from Amazon) which Phil appears on, including an MP3 which may or may not relate to Phil. The main relevant label is Young God Records; search on that site for Puleo and you'll get some hits (including an interview I did with Michael Gira in 1997). Phil was also on the live album "Swans Are Dead" by the Swans, and the Body Lovers "Number One of Three."Phil Puleo also played with Congo Norvell, but it was only for a summer and I'm having trouble finding a page other than
Phil's (link now dead; may be replaceable on Phil's site) that mentions it. Paul Wallfisch of Firewater definitely appeared on the album "Abnormal Anonymous", tho. And Tod did the layout design for that album. So Congo Norvell certainly has its hands in this page's pocketsHere's Invisible's page for Jim Coleman's project
Phylr. They've released two CDs of Phylr, "Contra La Puerta" and "Halflife", as well as a number of V/A comps with Phylr tracks, including a Dead Kennedies tribute CD. Jim tells me Phylr is more or less done with, however. But hey, so is Cop Shoot Cop. (Buy Contra La Puerta from Amazon.) (Buy Half Life from Amazon.)Here's a page of
MP3s from SinnerG (link dead), featuring Jim Coleman doing the music. Micheline Van Hautem provided vocals, and it was her page that was hosting the information. As "SinnerG" is an obvious leetspeak spelling, it makes it difficult to search for any more references to it. I don't think even Phil's site has any references to it anymore. So this may be the last online evidence of the grouping. MP3s they released were named City, Claws, Cookie, Friend (Remix), and Peach. My ID3 tags say City was from something called "Dry".Jim Coleman is (was? 6/11/05) currently playing solo shows as Coleman.
Jim Coleman was in Here (with someone from Meathead), and you can find
mp3s from Here's "A Bit of Red" EP here (link dead). Two of them are free; the rest require payment (only one of the pay tracks isn't on "Brooklyn Bank", however; I'm unsure if they are the same recordings or not). Here's a review of the Here album "Brooklyn Bank" (1999). That album seems to come from Fringecore, with more information on this page. However, it also comes from Invisible. It turns out the album also has CSC-er Dave Ouimet on it, in addition to Scott McCloud of Girls Against Boys, Rock Savage of Barkmarket, Bill Bronson of the Swans, Carolyn Honeychild Coleman, and Lydia Lunch.(Buy Brooklyn Bank from Amazon.)
Jim Coleman has also put out a Domestic Landscapes record on
Nail Records. I recently bought one of them. Maybe I'll say something about it once I listen to it. Or maybe I listened to it ages ago and forgot to put anything in hereJim Coleman is involved with Jim Thirlwell's Baby Zizanie. Here's a link in
French (link dead). They are doing some tour dates in Europe in late May 2003. I have created a Baby Zizanie page. It includes the tour dates from 2003, and a discography for the record.Jim Coleman has been doing a lot of music work for television, including a TLC program on Miami Crime Scene Investigation. The WOG also says he's worked for Court TV, Verizon, and Minolta.
Jim Coleman appears as part of Ryful (with Hal Hartley) on the soundtrack of Hartley's film "The Book of Life." At least according to

http://www.shotnez.com/home.html and they have some MP3s here.Here's
some info on CSC-er Natz's old band "The Black Snakes".This reminds me; semi-(in)famous photographer Richard Kern was also in the Black Snakes; his photography site (warning: artful punk nudity) is
here. Some music from CSC (in "X is Y"; it's just "Disconnected 666" tho), Jim Coleman of CSC (in "The Bitches") and from the Black Snakes (in "Submit To Me Now") appear on the DVD of his cinema of transgression DVD "The Hardcore Collection" (available from places like Amazon (buy the Richard Kern DVD from Amazon)and Kern's own site). Natz makes an appearance in "Submit to Me Now" as well. Kern also directed the video for CSC's "Room 429", but it and his other purely music videos are not included on The Hardcore Collection. The Richard Kern site seems largely abandoned (while still up and working), but he has a new, more porn like site at http://www.newnudecity.com. I don't think that site has any of the CSC videos on it. If it does, someone can tell me and I'll sign up for a month...(Buy the Kern book Soft from Amazon.)

Dave Ouimet's side project Sulfur has a limited page
here. (link dead but keeping it as a reference to the existence of the related band).Tod was supposed to do something with poet
Nicole Blackman (new link). What, precisely, is unclear. But then the piece also says Raymond Watts wasn't going to do music anymore, and he's been on tour with KMFDM since the article, so there you go (I think this predates Nicole Blackman's appearance on "The Man on the Burning Tightrope".)Tod was supposedly involved in the Tapeworm project, according to
this page.According to a 1996 piece around an interview with Jim Thirlwell
here, Tod left CSC to form the Pariahs with Kurt Wolf of Pussy Galore and Loudspeaker. Thirlwell also claims that Natz had kinda taken over CSC in the wake of Tod leaving.Dana Leong, touring trombone guy, has a page of downloads of his own stuff at
this link.Mail me at thetodhole@netscape.net; it's not gonna get checked very often, and when it is checked, you will likely get ignored (note: the account seems to not work now in an odd way; it claims my session has expired whenever I try to sign in; so I probably need to make a new disposable email address for there...).

I hate java. I hate Flash. I hate big bloated web pages, bloated without reason. This page is done in Word 98 for Mac, so it isn't as streamlined as my old pages, coded by hand in SimpleText. If you can suggest a way to strip this page to a smaller size (or to make it more widely compatible) while retaining its overall content and retaining Word 98 as the creation tool, feel free to suggest a way. Don't hack the pages tho.
