Firewater (photo at top) and Cop Shoot Cop share singer Tod Ashley (the guy in the picture above), also known as Tod A. Cop Shoot Cop was the greatest of all bands, and was a noisy little outfit that in some incarnations was known for having multiple bassists and no guitarist (and the keyboards weren't exactly lead most of the time). Firewater isn't really noisy usually; nevertheless they continue much of the underlying song writing style of CSC (although it took me a few listens to their first album to make the transition). This isn't to derrogate the other members of both bands; their own contributions can be seen on their other projects, many of which have links below.

Firewater's new album will be called "The Golden Hour". The band has been consumed by the darkness which is Myspace and have a myspace page . Please remember that Myspace is a cheat and to throw painful things at anyone who decides basing themselves there is a good idea. Note that at this moment both Bourbon and Division and a new song start playing at the same time, which makes for a complicated sounding remix of Bourbon and Division; but it's not. Stop Bourbon from playing on the top player (or don't, and be all Flamiing Lips about it). Several new songs are on the page; Borneo, This Is My Life, Six Forty Five, Hey Clown!, Weird To Be Back, and Three Legged Dog. They've also got something up on youtube about the record. "Music" doesn't even show Songs We Should Have Written. For shame... It does have some photos, videos, and the entire album "The Man on The Burning Tightrope" on it tho.

I can't give you a link, since you can only access it through the program iTunes.

Occasionally I'll see a reference to KJ Grant being with Cop Shoot Cop at some point. It often comes up in relation to the Elliot Sharp record Tectonics. Also "Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Yahoos". KJ Grant appears to be a woman. My best guess is KJ Grant is "Killjoy", who provided "voice" on White Noise on the track "Empires Collapse" and "aahs" on "Room 429". Kinda tenuous to list her as a CSCer on your eBay auctions, I think…

Here's a song here called Cop Shoot Cop by Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons. It could be the theme song to the true life bio pic of Cop Shoot Cop… except that it is a Spiritualized song about drug use. It used to be available to download there, but no longer.

Natz was in a group called Razor Chamber before CSC or the Blacksnakes, which can be found here. Here's Phil Puleo's solo stuff in the form of WOG. Or, more specifically, here. Phil puts up different and interesting MP3s here, so check it out occasionally for interesting sonic bits you've missed.

Phil Puleo has done lots with the Swans and projects closely associated with the Swans. Here's a page about the Angels of Light's record "New Mother" (buy from Amazon) which Phil appears on, including an MP3 which may or may not relate to Phil. The main relevant label is Young God Records; search on that site for Puleo and you'll get some hits (including an interview I did with Michael Gira in 1997). Phil was also on the live album "Swans Are Dead" by the Swans, and the Body Lovers "Number One of Three."

Phil Puleo also played with Congo Norvell, but it was only for a summer and I'm having trouble finding a page other than Phil's (link now dead; may be replaceable on Phil's site) that mentions it. Paul Wallfisch of Firewater definitely appeared on the album "Abnormal Anonymous", tho. And Tod did the layout design for that album. So Congo Norvell certainly has its hands in this page's pockets…

Here's Invisible's page for Jim Coleman's project Phylr. They've released two CDs of Phylr, "Contra La Puerta" and "Halflife", as well as a number of V/A comps with Phylr tracks, including a Dead Kennedies tribute CD. Here's a page of MP3s from SinnerG (link dead), featuring Jim Coleman doing the music. Micheline Van Hautem provided vocals, and it was her page that was hosting the information. As "SinnerG" is an obvious leetspeak spelling, it makes it difficult to search for any more references to it. I don't think even Phil's site has any references to it anymore. So this may be the last online evidence of the grouping. MP3s they released were named City, Claws, Cookie, Friend (Remix), and Peach. My ID3 tags say City was from something called "Dry".

Jim Coleman was in Here (with someone from Meathead), and you can find mp3s from Here's "A Bit of Red" EP here (link dead). Two of them are free; the rest require payment (only one of the pay tracks isn't on "Brooklyn Bank", however; I'm unsure if they are the same recordings or not). Here's a review of the Here album "Brooklyn Bank" (1999). That album seems to come from Fringecore, with more information on this page. However, it also comes from Invisible. It turns out the album also has CSC-er Dave Ouimet on it, in addition to Scott McCloud of Girls Against Boys, Rock Savage of Barkmarket, Bill Bronson of the Swans, Carolyn Honeychild Coleman, and Lydia Lunch.

This reminds me; semi-(in)famous photographer Richard Kern was also in the Black Snakes; his photography site (warning: artful punk nudity) is here. Some music from CSC (in "X is Y"; it's just "Disconnected 666" tho), Jim Coleman of CSC (in "The Bitches") and from the Black Snakes (in "Submit To Me Now") appear on the DVD of his cinema of transgression DVD "The Hardcore Collection" (available from places like Amazon (buy the Richard Kern DVD from Amazon)and Kern's own site). Natz makes an appearance in "Submit to Me Now" as well. Kern also directed the video for CSC's "Room 429", but it and his other purely music videos are not included on The Hardcore Collection. Tod was supposed to do something with poet Nicole Blackman (new link). What, precisely, is unclear. But then the piece also says Raymond Watts wasn't going to do music anymore, and he's been on tour with KMFDM since the article, so there you go… (I think this predates Nicole Blackman's appearance on "The Man on the Burning Tightrope".)

Tod was supposedly involved in the Tapeworm project, according to this page.

According to a 1996 piece around an interview with Jim Thirlwell here, Tod left CSC to form the Pariahs with Kurt Wolf of Pussy Galore and Loudspeaker. Thirlwell also claims that Natz had kinda taken over CSC in the wake of Tod leaving.
