"WOODY"

"Woody" is the second Box turtle to become a permanent resident here at the Earthshine R & R Turtle facility. She is a young female that was found by a caring person in an unknown location and was injured, possibly by a car, and was sick and emaciated. Woody was then taken to a local animal hospital where she was treated for a vitamin A deficiency and force fed. She is now recovering nicely. Woody will not be able to be returned to the wild since we do not know her place of origin. She will live out her life alongside the other resident turtles teaching people about the wonderful box turtle.

WOODY UPDATE: 8/17/2008

After Woody was treated and released into the R & R enclosure she was only seen once or twice before winter closed in. Come spring she was not found or seen so we deduced that she must have died during hibernation due to her weakened condition--we were wrong! On August 17th I found her under one of the log hides in the enclosure and she looks great, had gained weight and was very active! Take a look at the most recent photo of Woody below! Way to go Woody!
