"LUCKY"
"Lucky" was a temporary visitor to R & R. I found her in mid June 2007 crossing a remote, wooded dirt road. She is an older adult female that has had some major shell damage in the past that looks like it was caused by the teeth of a large dog or possibly even a coyote or black bear! The animal gnawed many of the scutes--the hard protective outer coverings that give the shell its distinctive color--off of her shell down to the bone! This must have hurt very badly but Box turtles are very strong and she pulled through and her shell seems to be healing nicely now. Lucky spent two weeks with us for observation so we could be sure that she was healthy. During the time she was at R & R she ate very well and acted very turtle-like, so on 7-10-07 I released her exactly where I found her and she walked off into her woodland home.
