Join the Earthshine Citizen Scientist Family!

Earthshine Mountain Lodge is participating in a statewide Eastern Box Turtle conservation project in cooperation with the NC Wildlife Resources Commissionand you can help! If you are lucky enough to find a box turtle while you are driving or walking anywhere at Earthshine first mark and record the exact spot that you found it, the time, the weather and what the turtle was doing when you found it. Then carefully take the turtle to an Earthshine staff memberdont worry they dont bite. Tell them where you found it and write down the directions to the site and they will collect the relevant data and then release it back exactly where it was found. With your help, we will be able to better monitor the resident box turtle populations at Earthshine and develop conservation practices that will ensure the survival of these wonderful animals.
Thank you for you help!
NOTE: Please do enter the Earthshine box turtle enclosures unless accompanied by an Earthshine staff member or place any turtles in the enclosures without telling a staff member first. Please do not bring turtles to Earthshine from other locations and release them on the property. If you have a captive turtle and you want to find it a home, the best thing is to take it to the exact spot where you found it and relaese it there. If this is not possible please contact me for further information.
For detailed information about this project check out the Turtle Tracks website.
*Remember to watch for box turtles crossing roads during the warmer months, especially after rains and in the morning and afternoon hours.
