Nature is waking up all over the mountain at Earthshine!!
Remember the teenage (mutant;-) Snapping turtle I found stuck in the mud of the small pond during the drought last year? He's back and living in the big pond where I released him! Check out these photos of him!
Box Turtles need our help when crossing roads. Check out this new video on how you can help!
The newest arrival at Earthshine is Frankie the Opossum joey.
On Mothers day some caring folks in the nearby town of Hendersonville found this little Opossum joey wandering alone in the road after a bit of stormy weather. Nearby one of his siblings lay dead. They could have been victims of the storm, a domestic dog or cat attack or a vehicle may have hit their mother dislodging the little joeys. However the little guy ended up in the street, the folks that saved this little Opossums life did a great thing by feeding him, keeping him warm and giving him the name Frankie. They then called me to take care of him until he was old enough to fend for himself. Marian and I and the entire Earthshine staff took care of him for about two weeks until he let himself out of his acclimation cage in the woods. I'm sure he is happy now living free as an Opossum should.
Take a look at the video log of Frankie's progress below!
WOW! Check out the beautiful Black Ratsnake I found while walking down the trail to the Adventure Course a few days ago!
I found a large Northern watersnake I found sunning itself on the rocks at the pond. She was so large from eating a catfish that she could hardly move.
