Look at that creature in the mirror
He's such a poor and lonely boy
One who could care not for himself
And when he approaches into the view of many
He is seen as something unattractive and ugly
I guess it must be true that he frequently cries
Oh, but when he cries I imagine he must hide his eyes
And the saddest truth of all is that he is you
Take a good look at who he is now
While wanting to remember who he used to be
What has he amounted to
What has he accomplished
What degree has he sunk to
What has he failed to do
He must be oh so completely lonely now
Just like he always has been
And he must wonder
Where is Elmo
Where has he gone
Did he become him
Or did the reflection put an end to him
Did he forget of him for a reason
Destroy him on purpose
Lose all memory of his existence because he wanted to
But one must question
Is this new man better
Is this new man an improvement
A step or more backwards
Or does it all even out
Where is Elmo
Elmo is gone
He's never to return
Where is Elmo
Could he lurk somewhere in his head
Does he fear Elmo is truly dead
Where is Elmo
The answer won't come
The question lingers on
That thing in the mirror
He continues to smirk, cry, and laugh his way through life
And sometimes he puts on a show
A bit of an act
To deny him his feelings
To fool the masses
But there are still those times when the world can hear him crying
And he continues to silently find an answer
Where is Elmo
Elmo can't hear
He is now deaf
Where is Elmo
Blind I think Elmo is
But maybe the shadows allow him to hallucinate
Where is Elmo
The reflection has killed him
How shunned upon one must feel
No, perhaps nothing's been lost
Possibly something good has been gained
Despite what he feels
Maybe this curse is really a gift
Because no matter how well he tries to hide them
Sympathies and feelings still reside
