This website has information on the Canada Cup of Hockey tournament, including stories, photos, results, and statistics.
Following the Summit Series in 1972 and 1974, the world would finally see the nations of Canada, Czechoslovakia, Finland, the Soviet Union, Sweden, the United States and West Germany compete with all their best players for the first time. Unlike in the World Championships the Canada Cup tournament would be the only time all the top hockey nations would compete with NHL players representing their respective countries.
The hockey loving public would have to wait seven years, after the end of the last Canada Cup (in 1991), before NHL players would again represent their countries at the highest level in the Nagano Olympics 1998. This was repeated at the following Olympics in Salt Lake City 2002, and the trend will continue with NHL players representing their countries in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
A World Cup of Hockey has also taken place in1996 and 2004 . The World Cup of Hockey was basically the Canada Cup reborn, with a slightly different format, and eight rather than six nations competing.
