Richard Takes 2nd Cabin Classic
Two years after winning the inaugural Tom's Cabin Classic, Richard repeated to remain the only winner of this fall classic. Storming out to an early front nine lead at Catawba Willows took some of the pressure off the inward nine. Richard attributes the win to good karma and fancy footwork.
Mother Nature graced us with perfect weather for the afternoon and evening portions of the event. The traditional tossing of the pigskin passed time while Tom's turkey fried. The deep fried turkey was a CMGC first and thoroughly enjoyed by all. "It's a lot of work, but worth the effort," reported Tom. The ceremonial fire was lit a dusk and kept everyone warm until enough other substances could be consummed to provide their own antifreeze effect. The usual array of stories, jokes and general oddities provided hours of amusement and the fire burned well into the night. Richard camped outside in his own tent and Tom's cabin easily housed the remainder of the crew.
The 2001 Tom's Cabin Classic was again unanimously voted a success. Quirky Catawba Willows fit perfectly into the scene. The Buffalo Garlic Baked Beans were very hot. Tom's deep fried turkey was a hit. Nobody blew out a shoulder out throwing the football. Neighboring parties contributed some unusual characters. Everyone vowed to return for the 2002 event. It was a perfect cap to the 2001 tournament season.
