Writing Glory: Ten Rules To Live By

By Tyna

10.  Do not forget about Ben: a lot of people write Glory as a single entity and not as a God sharing a body with a mortal.  I know for some fic’s it’s not convenient to have the Ben connection but for those that try to stick to the character created by Joss and co. then Ben should be an element somewhere.

9.  Glory’s Minions:  Dreg and Jinx especially they are an intricate part of Glory’s network and should not be forgotten.  They protect Glory and help her.  And basically they are the closest things to “friends” that she has.

8. Glory’s use of Spells:  Glory has infinite resources and getting spells such as the one used in Shadow.

7. Dot not forget her past:  Many people seem to forget that there were two other Gods with Glory.

6.  Glory’s collateral damage:  The people that she brain sucked.  Please do not forget where Glory gets her energy from it is a major point that many writers forget.

5. The Knights of Byzantium many people just skim over them or not mention them at all.  It would be interesting to see how they come into play and why they were set up by the church to come after Glory and how.

4. Glory CAN fight: I have seen fic’s where Glory is just a swatter of Buffy I mean Glory does a lot more then just swat.  She can fight and is stronger then any villain on the show before.

3. The Outfit:  Wardrobe is definitely part of what makes Glory, Glory.  She dress in mainly reds possibly 90% of outfits were red.

2. Witty Banter:  This is the crouch of Glory as a being.  She’s truthful and straightforward.  She’s evil and doesn’t give a second thought about it, but what makes her unique is how and what she says.

i.e. Glory to Spike (in Intervention) “I have a riddle for you, precious. How is a vampire that won't talk ... like an apple?” She walks up to Spike, grabs his hair and pulls his head back. We see that his chest is also bloody and has at least one ugly round wound from Glory's finger. With her free hand she has a dagger, which she uses to cut his chest. Spike yells in pain. “Think I can do you in one long strip?”

Glory (in Weight Of The World) “Ben! The human meat-sack who's infecting me. Do your mojo, make an incision, or removal, or whatever you've gotta do. Help me! I'm ... I'm thinking Ben's thoughts, and ... and I'm feeling his feelings!”

 1.   A God does not WHINE:  A lot of people seem to write Glory as whinny always asking for her key.  But actually Glory is demanding.  She WANTS something and she wants it now.
