Answers to Questionaire

1. A) To know, to will, to dare, to keep silent.

B) The Athame and the Cup

C) The Broom/Besom, sword (in coven setting), cauldron, wand, bell, Book Of Shadows, candles

remember that a tool only has the power that you give it.

2. "To call oneself a witch does not make a witch" as Lord Buckland says. Heredity does not define a witch nor does paperwork. Deeds that follow the Rede and the Laws make a witch. Even the act of manipulation of your enviroment doesn't make it otherwise anyone with more developed "powers" would be one. To have the dogma that the undefined intelligence in the universe will respond to the calling of Goddess and God will shape a witch. To understand that these are names for something that cares not a whit for names but only for actions will make a witch. In these modern times, a witch is one who wishes to call the unseen by names that pre-date the Christian concept; To accept that there is a balance to the Universe and that the unseen is not a male, nor a female but the embodiment of both.

What a witch does is live and respect all life as an embodiment of the Divine spark. It's rites will encompass the yearly turning of the earth and the effects of that axis. It is one who worships life in all forms. There is no room for bigotry or power plays in Wicca. Such behaviour is beneath the dignity of the Infinite. A witch remembers the Rede and the Threefold Law and leaves revenge for the cowans.

3. A belief in a "higher power" which gives life it's divine spark. Recognition that the Goddess and God are within us all and all we have to do is reach for it. That the physical world is one of many realities. Embraces the Doctrine of Reincarnation but not necessarily pre-destination.

4.Karma is not a system of rewards and punishments but a phenomena that guides the soul towards evolving actions. If a person acts in a negative fashion then to teach them what happens to those they have hurt, negative will happen to them. Karma can't be "wiped out". It is not a loan at the bank and all you have to do is take one penalty to wipe out the debt. You can't do evil actions in this lifetime upon the assumption that you won't have to pay for it until the next one. It happens THIS time.

5. Your right as a student of the Craft is to be treated with the same respect that you are expected to give. To understand that if your teacher knows what they are doing, you may not be given the information that you want when you want it. You will get it when you are able to handle it. If you can't find the question, then you are certainly not ready for the answer. You can take a "course" on Witchcraft and you will learn the basics and the history. Yet you need to remember that most of life's answers can't be so neatly provided. Much to your chagrin and to the teachers as well.

6. Scrying - the use of water, black glass, a crystal ball. Cartomancy - divination through cards ( tarot or playing cards, etc.) Astrology- divination through planetary movements. Runes - Interpretation of symbolic stones of Nordic origin. Dowsing - pendulum, divining rods, bobbers, etc. ) Phrenology - the bumps on your head. I Ching - a series of hexagrams that have been assigned to eight elements.

7. First Degree: the initiation of a newcomer

Second Degree: one who can lead a coven, one who has learned the basics but usually hasn't developed the control over themselves and the elements that they need.

Third Degree: One who has overcome most ( few humans ever manage to overcome all ) of their insecurities and can control themselves as well as the elements and spirits that they come into contact with. If you can't control your own temper - how can you control the Guardians or any other spirit?

8. This question must deal with your own personal experiences and can't be standarized.

9. Ditto

10. A spirit is usually one who is aware of their death, and chooses to be in the earthly realm. There are entities that have never lived as humans and have a problem with jealousy. A ghost can be a memory that has soaked into the enviroment like a stain. To remove any energy that is not welcome, a banishing is the best bet. If the lesser banishing with candles and oils are ineffective because it is fighting the process, then you may need to speak to your teacher. I hesitate to give the grisly details of how I pull it off.

11. Analogous to "ignorance is bliss". True knowledge brings responsibility, the awareness of right and wrong polarity, etc. This can be equated with Karma.

12. Initiation is a process. The ceremony is just that, pomp and ceremony. It only reinforces the idea that you have learned certain things. If you truly should be initiated, you won't feel the need to justify it.

13. Depends on the Tradition you have chosen, doesn't it? Depends on whether or not you will find yourself out of a job because of your choice of how you talk to "god". Again, this will be an answer that will reflect your personal circumstances and can't be standardized.

To see far, the consequences of the actions that are about to be undertaken - could rebound how? Think first and see the other's point of view EVEN if it does NOT agree with yours.

Some of these answers are easily found in other parts of this web page. I will not be so egotistical as to claim that all are thoughts that are original to me. I can honestly state that I created this questionaire for my students over fifteen years ago and some of the answers are blatantly Raymond Buckland's and Scott Cunningham's and Janet and Stewart Farrar's. I have recommended the Complete Book of Witchcraft for my students since 1988. Geez, suddenly I feel old....
