The Forest Lords of Australian Midgard
The Forest Lords
The Forest Lords are a Secret Society that is said to have been originated by a group of Renegade caretakers of a now forgotten monastery. This monastery was fabled far and wide for the wise men that were produced who were in touch with nature. These men and women were dedicated to the pursuit of protecting the knowledge and power that can be attained through the natural world. There were several types of men in these monasteries. First of all there were the scouts and apprentices. These men lead simple lives and were usually devoted towards the protection of a garden they were entrusted upon, as well as the protection of the natural world that gives life. Ranked above these were the Rangers. Battle hardened men trained in jungle and forest warfare in order to protect the forests from the increasing encroachment of civilisation. In forests, these men could lead a small group of trained men for weeks without provisions and destroy companies of men who tried to enter the forests. Lastly, and most feared of all were the Druids. It is unknown what these beings are, and it is sometimes the case that they are considered nothing more than a myth, but those who have been told the stories say that they possess unnatural powers from their natural environment. These men have always been shrouded in mystery and no one knows for sure what their aim was.
When the Imperials came, the monastery was one of the few places that could withstand the might of the Empire. But like all others, the end finally came as the forest in which the Monastery presided was burnt to the ground, thus depriving the Forest Lords of their natural advantage. With that came a siege of the Monastery, which was something the Imperials were infinitely good at and the monastery eventually fell and was razed to the ground.
Recently however, there have been rumours of a revival of the Forest Lords with the advent of some rangers making news in a few taverns. Even more alarming is the rumours that another druid is active in the world of Midgard. Most of the families and the religions are taking no notice of these rumours as there has never been any ill feeling between the Forest Lords and them. However the Imperials have a long memory and are taking an interest in what is going on.
