All About Me And My Daycare

Thank you very much for your interest in learning more about me and my daycare. My name is Phyllis Parmelee and I live in Farmington, CT. My husband, Scott, is a computer programmer and has been my best friend since 6th grade. I also have 2 wonderful children, Justin, age 9, and Tyler, age 5. You can see pictures of them in the Family Photo Album. They definately keep us both busy. I also have a brother, Brian, who is married and has one child. I also have a younger sister, Christine, who is actually only 15 and has her own website. Check it out Here.
Teaching and working with children has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. As a teenager, I was the oldest child in my neighborhood and I remember playing teacher with all the younger children as my students. In highschool I worked at a daycare for awhile and then after graduation, I worked as a camp counselor for a Girl Scout camp in Lebanon, CT. Eventually, I decided to go for my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, but when I graduated there was a severe shortage in teaching jobs, so I decided to open my own family childcare instead. During this time I also taught piano in my home. Unfortunately, my home at the time was a small condominium and space was very tight. After about 1 year I decided that I really wanted to go back to school for my Master's Degree, so I shut my daycare down and concentrated on school, and my son, Justin. I recieved my masters degree in Marriage and Family therapy. I worked as a family counselor for 3 1/2 yrs, working mostly with children. During this time I gave birth to my son Tyler. Shortly afterwards, the counseling center that I was working for went out of business and I took this opportunity to stay home with my children by re-opening my home childcare.
The 100 Acre Wood Childcare was run in Bristol for 3 1/2 years. My husband and I decided at that time that we wanted to move to a different town, so my childcare was temporarily shut down in December of 2003. It has taken us a while to sell our home and find a new home, but we will be up and running again in late October, early November. Presently I am in an apartment but as of September 15th I will be in a new home on a quiet cul-de-sac that is conveniently located right off of Route 6. Since my childcare is just starting up again, I have plenty of openings for full and part time children. I will be using a curriculum that I have put together on my own. I offer meals, snacks, lots of activity, fieldtrips and resources for children of all ages. I live in a smoke-free home with no pets, other than a couple of friendly lizards. My children have allergy problems so this will never be an issue. I am state licensed and I have training in First Aid, CPR and Medication Administration. All of my inspections that have been done by the state in the past have been perfect - not a single violation. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I look forward to hearing from you.
