Pioneer of County Dies on 87th Birthday

George W. Shellhart, who lived all but six months of his eighty –seven years on the same farm in the north edge of Indian Creek township, died there Sunday on his birthday anniversary. He had been ill more than two weeks from ailments incident to his advanced years.

Mr. Shellhart was born in Spencer, Ohio, April 11, 1850, and in the fall came to this county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Shellhart. In 1872 he was married to Priscilla Sheidler and two years after her death in 1875, was married to Rebecca L. Hines, whose death occurred in 1921.

Surviving are one daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Galbreath of Benton Harbor, Mich., and five sons – Charles and Andrew of Prospect, Ohio, Oscar of Columbus, Ohio, and William and Isaac of this county. There are also fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two half-sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson of English Lake and Mrs. Julia Markley of Francesville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Pulaski church, conducted by the Rev. J.J. Meyer. Burial was in the Pulaski cemetery.
