Laser Hair Removal

The use of Ruby Laser for long term removal of unwanted hair is becoming the treatment of choice in the field. The technique has been shown to offer long term depilation in a range of skin types without scarring.

How does it work?

The Chromos 694 emits red light which is selectively absorbed by the melanin found at the source of hair growth; the root, the bulge area, the hair follicle and the surrounding stem cells. The laser pulse is carefully controlled to produce enough heat to disable just the follicle area, without transferring excess heat to surrounding skin structures. This carefully controlled burst of light represses future hair growth without damaging surrounding skin. 

Because the laser uses only light to remove hair, it does not cause the irritation that other hair removal methods may create. The result is safe and effective hair removal.
 

The red laser light passes harmlessly through the top layers of skin, and penetrates deep into the dermis, to the source of hair growth. Melanin in the hair and the hair follicle selectively absorb the laser energy to impair future growth, while surrounding skin structures remain untouched.

Factors affecting treatment

• The Colour of the Hair - there must be a concentration of colour in the hair to absorb the laser light. The treatment does not work on grey or blonde hair. 
• The Skin Colour - there needs to be a minimum of colour in the skin. Coloured skin contains so much pigment that the laser light is absorbed into the skin and not the hair. 
• The Hair - The hair needs to be just visible on the surface of the skin in order to indicate the position of the follicle. The shorter and more coarse the hair, the better the treatment results. 
• Medication - some medication can cause photosensitivity of the skin. These include some antibiotics, blood pressure/heart tablets and premarin. Whilst these medications do not exclude clients from treatment, a full list should be asked for and disclosed by the client to the treating clinician. Test shots are always advisable to gauge individual skin reaction 

What to expect

Although the treatment is not without sensation, most clients describe the procedure as slightly uncomfortable rather than painful and those clients that have endure electrolysis are always pleasantly surprised. The skin should be cooled with ice packs or gel before and after treatment which reduces the chance of skin reaction. As the treatment treats more than one follicle at any one time, it is easy to treat large areas quickly and efficiently. A full beard area would take approximately 30 - 45 minutes per session. 

Skin reaction varies between individuals and ranges from slightly pink and red reactions lasting anything from minutes to a couple of hours. Very occasionally the skin may blister but there have been no reported cases of scarring or long term side effects associated with the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser. Because the laser uses the melanin in the hair follicle as the targets to disable hair growth, clients with suntans or darkly pigmented skin may experience temporary lightening or darkening of the treated area which resolves in a short period. Makeup can be applied immediately after treatment.
