Michelle Williams: Interview with ultimate tv

The proverbial small town girl, Michelle Williams was born and raised in rural Kalispell, Montana, before moving with her family to San Diego when she was 10 years old. She became involved in community theatre productions and was soon commuting to Los Angeles for professional auditions. After earning her wings in "Species," and "A Thousand Acres," Williams won the role of new-girl-next-door-with-a-twist on "Dawson's Creek." As Jennifer, Williams attempts to be a typical "nice" girl after a walk on the wild side in her past.

UltimateTV: What was it like to work on Species?

Michelle Williams: I don't think that I had any idea of the magnitude of this movie; I was a thirteen year old going to work and they put stuff on my face....but then it got this cult following...it was just a job for me...people would send me letters and ask me to come to their alien conventions...they took it as reality.

UltimateTV : What did you learn from working with Jessica Lange in "A Thousand Acres"?

Michelle Williams: Grace. Things that I don't think I really realize now. Just immeasurable...but above all, grace.

UltimateTV: Which of the three actresses in "A Thousand Acres" did you learn the most from? Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Jason Leigh, or Jessica Lange?

Michelle Williams: It wasn't really the most or the best, it was different things from the three of them, with Jessica it was about grace, Michelle is ethereal, Jennifer is so complex. I learned a lot; what I learned cannot be expressed in words.

UltimateTV: Who are your acting influences?

Michelle Williams: Any old film noir.

UltimateTV: Do you plan on attending college?

Michelle Williams: Not at this pace. I'd really like to devote my focus to one place or another.

UltimateTV: Which is your favorite Dostoyevsky book?

Michelle Williams: Notes from the Underground.

UltimateTV: Would you be interested in doing feature films?

Michelle Williams: What actor wouldn't?

UltimateTV: What's your favorite action movie?

Michelle Williams: "La Femme Nikita."

UltimateTV: Do you find that being a working actor affects your relationships with your friends? After all, you're only 15 years old.

Michelle Williams: Michelle: What friends. I'm not saying 'pity me' but I'm kind of isolated because I don't go to high school. It's a fun conversation piece for ten minutes, then people get bored.

UltimateTV: What can you remember about Kalispell, Montana, and where exactly is that?

Michelle Williams: I just flew in from there yesterday. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I went back. You can see sky for miles and miles. It's a different way of life. It's escapism. From Hollywood.
