Sarah Michelle Gellar began her acting career at the age of four when she was discovered by an agent while dining with her mother in a New York City restaurant. Three weeks later, she landed her first role playing Valerie Harper's daughter in the 1983 television movie, An Invasion of Privacy. Her first commercial, in which she played the part of a tiny Burger King enthusiast who reproaches McDonald's for skimpy burgers, resulted in the now-famous disparagement lawsuit titled "The Battle of the Burgers." Subsequent appearances in over a hundred commercials in the ensuing years eventually led to larger roles including the films, Over the Brooklyn Bridge (1984), Funny Farm (1988), High Stakes (1989). Performances in New York stage productions of Horton Foote's The Widow Claire at the Circle in the Square, in which she starred with Matthew Broderick, and Neil Simon's Jake's Woman at the Old Globe Theatre honed her thespian skills.
In 1993, Sarah won her first solid, adult role playing the devious Kendall Hart on the daytime soap, All My Children. Though nominated for an Emmy in 1994, it was not until 1995 that her villainy was rewarded with an Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress. Despite giving producers 6 months notice of her decision to leave the show, Gellar publicized her intentions the day after her Emmy win. After 2 ½ years, Sarah departed the show and moved to California to further her career in film and television.
In 1997, Sarah starred in the highly anticipated feature films I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2: Scream Again. Co-starring with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Gellar received a Blockbuster Entertainment Award in 1998 for Best Supporting Actress - Horror for her work in IKWYDLS.
Upcoming projects include the films Cruel Inventions, the modern day adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons scheduled to be released in February 1999, and Vanilla Fog , a romantic comedy about a young woman (SMG) who is suspected to be a witch.
