Chapter One

- The Close encounter of the Heavenly kind

It was a beautiful irish day as the passenger bus weaved its way around the hills and valleys of the Wicklow mountains. One passenger on the bus seemed solitary and all alone. Even though the bus was near capacity. He marvelled at the lush scenery that the bus was flying past. It moved so fast that each undescribable vision was soon replaced by another undescribable vision. He noticed the other passengers didnt even seem to pay the slightest bit of attention to the countryside that they were driving past.

Under normal circumstances the bus and its passengers would never have noticed the truck and its huge wooden crate that it carried high above them. But for the men driving the truck, Liam and Donal, normal never seemed to enter the equation. They had just picked it up from the train in Kildargen . It had been shipped all the way from Italy.

Their employer, a Mr Quigley would most likely be impatiently waiting for them until they had delivered the crate. It seemed a lot of money rested on what was inside the crate. They rushed ever onward to their destination, a small town called Ballykissangel. Their truck almost filled the entire one lane road. To say that they were driving with care would be a mistake. They were driving as fast as possible, because their boss wouldn't be pleased if they were late.

Soon they came to a crest in the road and without any warning a small car with a horse alongside it was suddenly right in Donal and Liams path. Without thinking they quickly moved to the side of the road to allow the horse and driver room to pass. They didn't even have room to react as the crate teetered off balance and fell off their truck. It began to fall end over end down the mountainside. Though neither of the men said anything both had the very same thought, "Mr Quigley is gonna kill us!".

Crates don't often fall out of the sky but when they do watch out. The driver slammed on the brakes as it crashed just inches away from the front of the bus. The crate came to a sudden stop, even though it had fallen such a huge distance, it seemed relatively undamaged.

The driver and passengers all rushed out of the bus to look at the crate.None of them could tell what was inside it.

One of the passengers joked about the huge crate, while the others stood by in a near state of shock. They asked the the driver if he was going to stay with the crate. "Not me," he said, "I've got a schedule to keep!". The passengers then retook their seats. One of them the solitary man that had been looking out the window decided to stay outside. He asked the driver, "How far is it to Ballykissangel?" The driver replied, "About 2-3 miles, but it'll be a long time til the next bus." The man looked around and said, "Thats fine, its a lovely day for a walk." He gathered his things, and soon as watching the rear taillight s of the bus fade away into the distance. As soon as the bus was out of sight a truck with two obviously upset men drove by him. They stopped near where the crate had landed. He looked at the truck and surmised they had found their lost crate. He decided it was much to pretty a day to waste watching them load the impossibly huge crate, so he started to walk in the direction the bus had left. He almost believed he heard one of the men say, "It's your fault!" but he wasnt sure, it might have been the wind.

The weather it seemed was starting to take a turn for the worse. As it began to rain he suddenly wished thathe had stayed on the bus. Soon he was soaked to the core. He was so dazed from the hard rain that he didnt notice a car pull alongside him. the driver in the car a woman rolled down one of the windows and said, "Can i give you a lift?" He eagerly accepted the offer of the ride.
